The Christmas season is here and this year I am painting it! I got this one a few weeks ago and they will be everywhere in town!  Poinsettias are very typical of the season here in Norteamerica but it was never like that for me growing up in Argentina. We had one that was a large bush in the back yard; back home it was not associated with Christmas (that I know of??). Time to start getting the Christmas decorations out, to decorate the house and also to paint some!

Está llegando la época de Navidad y este año tengo planeado pintarla! La Estrella Federal es una planta (de interior) muy típica de Navidad aquí en Norteamerica pero no era así en Argentina, donde no se relaciona con la Navidad (que yo sepa??) Teníamos una arbusto grande en el patio y creo que allí está todavía. Es hora de empezar a  sacar la decoraciones de Navidad, para decorar la casa y pintar algunas cosas !!

This is a study on red I did last week. Red is a colour that can be tricky for me which prompted me to study it. (you may see a few more red ones coming through.... ) The inspiration to set up a still life like this one came from a Liz Wiltzen's workshop I took a few years ago as well as a blog post she wrote on this. I am also part of an online group/course in which we have been focusing on colour for the last couple of weeks, red was again one my choices of study. It took a few goes at it for me to be happy with it.

Este es un estudio del color rojo que hice la semana pasada. El rojo es un color que puede ser complicado para mi y por eso fue que elegí estudiarlo un poco (tal vez vean mas cuadros con mucho rojo). La inspiración para este arreglo vino de un curso que tomé con Liz Wiltzen hace un par de años y un blog post que ella escribió al respecto. Además formo parte de un grupo/clase  en internet en el que en estas últimas semanas hemos estado estudiando color y el rojo fue uno de los que elegí. Volví a retocarlo varias veces hasta que estuve satisfecha con el resultado.

I started this painting this past summer on the boat, we dropped anchor in this very familiar bay (Montague) and decided it was high time I tried that view that always called me every time we came to this spot. The painting has gone through several incarnations, en plein-air was a very basic rough in of shapes and colours looking back on it, I was never happy with it, even when it was "finished" for the time being. Once back in the studio I have gone back to it a couple of times, each time developing the painting a bit further. I think I am finally happy with where it's at.  I am painting/drawing/sketching, doing a lot and trying to find time to fit it all in a day's work! Getting to the blog this week has been hard!

Comencé este cuadro este verano pasado en el velero,  tiramos el ancla y pasamos la noche en esta bahía  tan familiar ya que hemos ido muchas veces a este lugar y decidí que ya era hora de pintar esa vista que siempre me ha llamado. El cuadro ha pasado por varias encarnaciones, cuando hice el bosquejo en el velero, tenía solamente  un bloqueo  de formas y colores, en su momento, estaba terminado, pero en realidad no lo estaba.. Una vex que volví, ya en mi taller, he vuelto varias veces a agregar o cambiar cosas, cada vez desarrollándolo un poco mas. Creo que finalmente ahora estoy satisfecha con como quedó. Sigo pintando/dibujando y haciendo mucho todos los días, escribir en el blog ha sido difícil esta semana.

This was the second still-life from that bouquet of flowers my friend brought over a few weeks ago. I chose to do just one flower, the others were a bit "wilty" by then  (is that a word?) :)

I must say that I am, like most of us I am sure, extremely saddened by the events in Paris last Friday. It is unbelievable and terrible that things like this keep happening in our world. I choose to keep focusing on the positive and beautiful in the world; there is so much of it out there.... I strive to share some of that through my art. It is also one of the few things I can do.  That and say a very special prayer for our world.

 Esta es la segunda pintura del ramo de flores que mi amiga me trajo hace unas semanas. Elegí  hacer sólo una de las flores, las otras estaban medio marchitas ya.

Quiero compratir que  que estoy muy entristecida por los acontecimeintos del Viernes en París. Es increíble y terrible que sigan ocurriendo cosas así en el mundo. Personalmente elijo seguir enfocandome en lo positivo y hermoso que hay en el mundo, que es mucho.... Mi meta es compartir esa belleza  por medio de mi arte. Es una de las pocas cosas que puedo hacer. Eso y decir una oración muy especial por nuestro mundo.

I had to paint a poppy yesterday with Remembrance Day today. I have to admit I was  a bit intimidated by the ruffles in the petals, it is very easy to get lost in them. But in the end, I think it worked, it is VERY wet and this is the best photo I was able to take.
I am looking forward to going to my son's school  today for the Remembrance Day Ceremony. We were there last year and  it was very touching. They named every single soldier that went to that school and died in the wars and as they did that, they snuffed a candle for each one of them.  There was a very solemn air in the room,  everthing gets a new meaning when you can put names and faces to moments like these. This painting is a homage to those, both soldiers and innocent citizens, that lost their lives in any war. Hopefully one day we will rememeber and not go there again.

Tuve que pintar una amapola ya que hoy es el Dia de los Caídos en la Guerra. La verdad es que le tenía un poco de miedo a todos los pliegos en los pétalos de la amapola, es muy fácil perderse ahí adentro pero al final me parece que funcionó. La pintura está muy muy húmeda y esta es la mejor foto que le pude sacar.

Estamos listos para ir hoy a la Ceremonia de Los Caídos en la Guerra en la escuela de mi hijo. Fuimos el año pasado y  fue muy emotiva, nombraron a cada alumno que fue a esa escuela y murió en una guerra y a medida que los nombraban, apagaban una vela por cada uno.  Había por supuesto un aire muy solemne en el gimnasio, todo tiene un significado diferente cuando se ponen nombres y caras  a ocasiones como estas. Esta pintura es un homenage a todos los caídos en cualquier guerra (soldados o ciudadanos inocentes). Ojalá que algún día recordemos  y no estemos nuevamente en esas situaciones.

Recently we met for dinner with friends we haven't seen for a while  and this painting came out of the flowers they brought for me. It is so nice to reconnect with old friends!  I chose to crop it and include just a small section of the whole bunch. I am quite pleased with the way it worked out as I was able to keep it fresh. I realize this post is coming out really late in the day but better late than never!

Hace poco nos juntamos con unos viejos amigos a cenar y esta pintura salió de las flores que me trajeron de regalo, es tan bueno reconectar con viejas amistades! Elegí incluir sólo una porción de todo el ramo. Estoy bastante contenta con cómo quedó ya que puede mantenerlo bastante espontáneo sin trabajarlo de más. Si sé que este post está saliendo bastante tarde en el día pero es tarde es mejor que nunca!

I most certainly had not had enough with the white flowers, so I set out to do them again. This time I chose a different viewpoint and a different light source. I am pretty happy with the way it worked out as well.

I am very happy to let you know that 4 of my paintings have been included in the Small Treasures Show at Coast Collective, show runs from Nov 4 to 22nd, with an opening reception with artists in attendance (including moi) this coming Saturday, Nov 7, 2 to 4pm. Hope to see some of you there! It is time to start thinking about Xmas gifts and these small treasures would make wonderful gifts!

No me había sacado las ganas del todo con las flores blancas así que la hice de nuevo esta vez elegí un punto de vista diferente y una luz diferente también estoy bastante contenta con cómo queda.

Estoy muy contenta de contarles que cuatro de mis cuadros han sido incluídos en la muestra "Pequeños Tesoros" en Coast Collective, que va desde el 4 al 22 de Noviembre con una recepción de apertura con los artistas (incluyéndome a mí)  este sábado que viene 7 de Noviembre de 2 a 4 de la tarde. Espero verlos a algunos de ustedes ahí! Es hora de empezar a pensar en regalos de navidad y estos pequeños tesoros serían muybuenos regalos de Navidad.

One of my action goals for the future is to paint more  from life. I strongly agree with the ones that say painting from life can really help improve your skills  and teach you to really "see",  plus you get an incredible amount of information that you cannot see in a photograph.
I had these white flowers on the kitchen counter (sorry, don't know the name,  does anyone?? They are blooming everywhere right now) and I just went for it. The paiting came together very easily and I really like what happened here. Magic. :)

Una de mis metas es pintar mas de cosas reales y no de fotos. Creo con firmeza que esta práctica  es una de las mejores formas de mejorar, te enseña a "ver" de verdad; además de eso, se pueder ver una gran cantidad de información que se pierde en la foto.
Tenía este florero con estas flores blancas en la mesada de la cocina (no se el nombre de las flores, sabe alguien? Es un arbusto que está florecido por todos lados

Thankful finished

So here is "Thankful", the painting I did for Thanksgiving time. Even though it was not 100% finished back the, I wanted to post it because of the occasion. :)  I wanted to add a few more darks and lights and now it's ready. It's the other painting accepted into the FCA fall show happening at Goward House until November 26. Make sure you stop by, have a cup of tea and enjoy the beautiful artwork artwork in the show. I live very close to the Show so if you are planning to stop by, give me a call and we can visit and share that cup of tea ;) I have some greeting cards available as well.

Thanksgiving in Canada  happened almost a month ago and in the States is not happening for a few more weeks, we can anyway take this chance to count today AT LEAST 5 things we are thankful for!

Acá está "Agradecida", el cuadro que hice para la época de Acción de Gracias. A pesar de que no estaba terminado cuando lo puse en el blog había querido publicarlo de todas maneras en homenaje a la ocasión. Quería agregar claros y oscuros y ahora sí que está lista. Este uno de los dos cuadros aceptados en la Exhibición de Otoño de la Federación de Artistas Canadienses en Goward House hasta el 26 de Noviembre. Asegúrense de pasar a tomar una taza de té y disfrutar el hermoso arte en la muestra. Yo vivo muy cerquita de ahí así que si deciden pasar a ver la muestra, pueden avisarme y nos visitamos un rato con esa taza de té :)

El Día de Acción de Gracias ocurrió hace casi un mes aquí en Canadá  y ocurre en Estados Unidos en unas semans pero podemos de todas maneras contar por lo menos 5 cosas por las que estamos agradecidos! Hacer eso siempre es una buena práctica.

1334 - Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everyone! 

I couldn't resist this old house with the rock wall and all the carved pumpkins by the front door and stairs. I was of course driving around and saw this scene so had to go back and take the photo, it is not quite finished but can't work in it today as I am in Vancouver at the moment spending some wonderful time with my daughter. I did  it in a rush yesterday morning as I had to pack and get ready; I see now in the photo that I still have some stuff to clean up but don't worry, I won't rake the leaves! 

For my non-norteamerican friends: Halloween is a big day here. It's a special day for kids who get dressed up in costumes  and go out asking for candy in the neighborhood, they knock on people's houses and  say: "trick-or-treat? The owners of the house have to give them candy or do a  trick for them.  Lots of houses are decorated and every family puts pumpkins outside by the front door, usually carved with special designs. Where does the origin of the pumpkin tradition come from I wonder? My kids are all grown up now and don't go out trick or treating any more, :( , they would like to probably as they always ended up with enough candy for the whole year!

Feliz Halloween para todos! 

No pude resistir esta casa antigua con las paredes y escalera de piedra y los zapallos calados en la puerta! Andaba dando vueltas en el auto cuando la vi y tuve que volver a sacarle la foto. No está terminado del todo pero no puedo hacerlo hoy ya que estoy en Vancouver visitando a mi hija. La pinté a las apuradas ayer a la mañana antes de armar el bolso y prepararme para venir.  Veo ahora en la foto que tengo que "limpiar" un montón de detalles, pero no se preocupen, no voy a barrer las hojas! 

Para mis amigos no norteamericanos: el Halloween se celebra mucho acá.  Es un dia especial para los chicos, que se disfrazan y salen a pedir golosinas en la calle, se golpea la puerta de cada casa y los chicos dicen: "Golosina o truco?", los dueños de la casa tienen que darle golosinas o hacer un truco. Muchas casas están decoradas  y todas las familias ponen un zapallo en la puerta, normalmente calado con motivos de la ocasión. (De dónde vendrá el origen de los zapallos?) Mis hijos ya están grandes y ya no salen disfrazados :( probablemente les gustaría ya que siempre juntaban suficientes golosinas para todo el año!

I am so happy I have 2 paintings accepted into the Federation of Canadian Artists 2015 Juried Fall Show!!!  They are Witness (above)  and Thankful, my tribute to Thanksgiving I showed here. 

I painted Witness back in the Spring which I hadn't shown before and it is an image of a Totem Pole in Thunderbird Park , downtown Victoria. There are many totem poles in the city, carved by native artists throughout time. They are beautiful pieces of art and they carry wonderful stories with them. I called this one Witness because it's been there for so many years and I imagine it has witnessed many many things, from tourists strolling, taking photos to seasons, storms, generations.... I will have to go and find out the story behind this one maybe. Wonder where I go for that?

Show runs from  Oct 30 to Nov 26 and it is held at  Goward House, 2495 Arbutus Road.  There is a show opening reception Sun Nov 1, 2-4 pm. Unfortunately I don't think I can be there as I will probably be out of town.  (Remember to switch your clocks on Sunday for Daylight Savings!) Please note Goward House is open Monday to Friday  9-4 pm.

Estoy muy contenta  de tener 2 cuadros aceptados en la Muestra de Otoño-2015- de la Federación de Artistas Canadienses!!  Ellos son "Testigo" (arriba) y "Agradecida", mi tributo al Día de Acción de Gracias que les mostré aquí. 

Pinté "Testigo" en la primavera y es una imágen de un Totem que esté en el Parque Thunderbird en el centro de Victoria.   Hay muchos totems por toda la ciudad, creados por artistas nativos . Son hermosas piezas de arte que cuentan historias locales. Titulé esta pieza "Testigo" ya que este totem está ahí desde hace muchos años y me imagino que ha sido testigo de tantas, tantas cosas: desde turistas , paseando y sacando fotos  a estaciones del año, tormentas, generaciones....  Voy a tener que tratar de averiguar el cuento de este. Me pregunto dónde puedo averiguar eso?

La muestra va desde el 30 de Octubre hasta el 26 de Noviembre, en la Casa Goward, 2495 Arbutus Rd. Hay una recepción de artistas el Domingo 1 de Noviembre de 2 a 4. Lamentablemente creo que no puedo ir ya que no voy a estar en Victoria. (Recuerden cambiar los relojes una hora el domingo!! Por favor tengan en cuenta que Goward House está abierta de Lunes a Viernes de 9 a 4 .

I had painted this a while back, as part of the 30 paintings in 30 days September 2014. I had it in the  show I had to display all that work and I could have sold it many times over. I took a commission to do it again, a bit bigger this time and I am happy with the way it turned out. I don't usually paint the same painting twice, but it was  interesting to do it again, there is always the fear that it won't turn out this time.  I am pleased I think I see growth from that painting to this one, see the old one  here, :)

Había pintado este cuadro hace un tiempo, como parte del Desafío de 30 en 30 en Septiembre del 2014. Lo había tenido en una muestra de todo ese trabajo y lo podría haber vendido varias veces. Me lo encargaron, un poco mas grande que el otro y estoy contenta con como salió. Normalmente no pinto el mismo cuadro mas de una vez pero fue interesante hacerlo, siempre existe el temor de que no salga bien. Me parece que ha habido desarrollo desde entonces,   aquí pueden verlo el anterior :)

YAY ME!!!! - 27 of 260 done!

So, Yesterday Oct 25 marked 30 calendar days from the start of my 260 Days of Art Making Project and am I excited about it all or what!!????

This is what happened (I LOVE counting and being able to quantify this way!)
- I created 27 days out of 30
- I blogged and posted on social media consistenly for the whole month.

- Finished 10 small paintings from plein air or from photographs

- Did 4 small paintings from life

- Wiped one plein air

- Did 4 zentangles

- Did 4 drawings/illustrations

- Did 2 drawings/sketches

- Did 3 mixed media projects 

I am so so happy with everything I got to do this past month. It's time now to take a look and see if I want to change anything or not to make things work better.  The one thing I will change is I'll go down to posting 3 times a week instead of 5 (it takes me a long tome to get each post ready to publish!)  I also want to tackle some bigger works and go out to do more plein air. I am VERY excited to see what next brings :) I haven't posted all the images you see in the collage, will get to that in the next few posts.

Ayer marqué 30 días de calendario desde que comencé el proyecto de 260 Días de Hacer Arte y estoy tan contenta!!

Esto fue lo que ocurrió:

- Creé arte 27 días de los 30.

- Escribí el blog y en medios sociales de forma consistente todo el mes.
- Terminé 10 cuadros de fotos o empezados al aire libre

- Hice 4 cuadros  de naturalezas muertas en el taller.

- Borré un cuadro que hice al aire libre. 

- Hice 4 zentangles

- Hice 4 dibujos/ilustraciones

- Hice 2 dibujos/bosquejos
- Hice 3 trabajos de media mezclada.

Estoy tan tan contenta y satisfecha con todo lo que logré hacer este mes pasado. Ahora es tiempo de ver qué funcionó y qué no funcionó para hcer los cambios necesarios. Lo que ya se que voy a cambiar es voy a escribir  en este blog 3 veces por semana en lugar de 5 (escribir cada blog me lleva mucho tiempo normalmente). Quiero además hacer algunas piezas de mayor tamaÑo y quiero pintar al aire libre más a menudo. Estoy  MUY entusiasmada con  ver qué logro este mes  que viene!! :)

No he publicado todas las imágenes que ven en el collage de arriba, voy a publicarlas en los próximos posts.

Morning Walk

There is nothing like a morning walk in the woods enjoying the sounds, the smells and the colour. Again,  just like the last one,  this one is inspired by Goldstream Park which is very close to Victoria, only about 20 minutes by car. I am very fortunate to live where I do, there is beauty  everywhere year round :)

Painting this one was interesting. I started painting without a clear plan of attack, (may not have been the best idea but....), I just knew I didn't want to get really tight with detail, wanted to be able to keep the initial excitement of the rough in. Eventhough I was using oils, light washes and negative painting started happening, similar to watercolours and I went went with the flow, without forcing the canvas to go in any different direction. I enjoyed the process and I am pretty happy with the result.

No hay nada mejor algunos días que una caminata temprano a la mañana en el bosque disfutando de los sonidos, los aromas y los colores. Como la anterior, esta pieza también fue inspirada por el Parque Goldstream  que está aproximadamente a 20 minutos del centro de Victoria. Soy muy afortunafda de vivir donde vivo, hay belleza por todos lados el año entero. :)

Fue interesante pintar este cuadro. Comencé sin un plan específico (tal vez hacer eso no es la mejor idea pero....bueno....) Sabía que no quería poner demasiados detalles, quería mantener la frescura del bosquejo inicial. A pesar de usar oleos, utilicé capas finas de pintura cmo si fuera acuarelas. No forcé un cambio de dirección y dejé que el lienzo se resolvera solo. Disfruté del proceso y estoy bastante satisfecha con el resultado.

I am loving all the colours around, really enjoying Fall this year. This took me to look in my photo files from previous years and I found this one I hadn't painted. It's Goldstream Park, a great place to visit right now with the Salmon Run happening. (Every year, salmon come back to spawn to exactly the same spot in in the river they were born after being in the ocean for years, nature never ceases to amaze me!) Hopefully I get there to paint on plein-air before the next wind storm!

Estoy disfrutando intensamente los colores del otoño este año lo que me inspiró a mirar mis archivos de fotos y buscar esta foto que no había pintado. Es el el Parque Goldstream, un lugar hermoso para visitar en este momento  con los colores y la "corrida del salmón" (todos los años los salmones vuelven al mismo lugar en el río en que nacieron  que nacieron después de pasar varios años en el mar, increíble lo que es la naturaleza!). Ojalá que alcance a ir a pintar a este parque antes de la próxima tormenta de viento!

You wouldn't know by looking at this painting that the weather was the most miserable thing we encountered that trip. It was rainy, cold, and so windy, spent a lot of time just holding on to my things so they would fly away. My easel ended up in the lake right from the get go, as I stood it up, turned to grab my backpack to weigh it and the whole thing flew in the water!  There was SO much water in it it was kind of funny. Liz Wiltzen who has done a lot of plein air  said she had never had such miserable weather for painting, so yay for us, for sticking to it!  I was actually not that cold for most of the day, had so many layers! By the end though, yes, it was getting to my bones and I was happy to pack up and go home. One of the challenges of the day was to find interest in an otherwise very flat picture. It was hard to find what the interesting part that I wanted to paint.

Whenever I attend workshops, I take away different things from different instructors. One of the big lessons from Liz  this time was "What's your story?".  When choosing what to paint, you are attracted to one thing that makes you want to paint it, whether that is the light, a particular shape, the way 2 colours relate to each other, etc. It is also very easy to get distracted by other elements  in the painting and forget what that story is. EVERYTHING in the painting has to be subordinate to THAT ONE thing you choose to be your story, otherwise if all the elements have equal importance then we don't really know what we are looking at. I had of course heard that before but this time the student was ready, and it sank in. In today's painting, my story this time was the brighter lighter green trees on the island next to the light in the background. The trouble I encountered here was that in trying to finish the piece once back in my studio, I forgot  what my story was. I had a lot of foreground,  I gave it way too much importance, taking attention away from the trees and  everything had equal rank.  Until yesterday when I darkened the value of the foreground and punched up the greens. I am MUCH more satisfied now with the way the overall painting reads. I feel I was able to go back to telling my story better. So I always remind myself to ask several times, even before I start when I am picking what to paint: What's my story??

Al mirar este cuadro seguro que no se imaginan el mal tiempo que tuvimos ese día, fue el peor de todos del viaje a los Bugaboos. Llovía, hacía frio y tanto viento que me pasé la mayor parte del tiempo sosteniendo mi atril para que no se volara. Mientras estaba armando todo,  me di vuelta para buscar la mochila y ponerla de peso en el atril, vino una ráfaga y me lo voló entero al lago! Había tanta agua en todos mis materiales que era gracioso. Liz Wiltzen, nuestra profesora que ha echo mucha pintura al aire libre, nos dijo que este había sido una de los peores días de su vida para pintar afuera asi que arriba nosotros! que pintamos y todo en esas condiciones. En realidad yo no tuve tanto frio, tenía muchas capas pero de todas formas estuve contenta de desarmar campamento al final del día ya que estaba empezando ano poder mover los dedos del frio en las manos! Uno de los desafíos del día fue que estaba todo bastante gris y aburrido, fue difícil encontrar algo interesante para pintar.

Siempre que voy a cursos, me llevo una o mas cosas de valor que aprendo de los instructores. Una de las grandes lecciones de este viaje que aprendí de Liz fue "Cual es tu historia?". Cuando estamos eligiendo qué pintar, siempre estamos atraídos por un elemento mas que otros, ya sea la luz, una de las formas que vemos, o la relación de dos colores. Tambén es muy fácil distraerse con otros elementnos dentro del cuadro y olvidarnos así de cual es nuestra historia que queremos contar. TODOS los elementos  dentro del cuadro tienen que estar subordinados a esa UNA cosa que elegimos  ser nuestra historia ya que si todos los elementos tienen igual importancia,  cuando miramos al cuadro no sabemos bien qué mirar. Por supuesto que yo había escuchado esto antes  pero esta vez, la alumna estaba lista para escuchar eso y esta vez lo entendí. En el caso del cuadro de hoy, mi historia son los verdes claros en los árboles de la isla y la luz que había detrás. El problema fue que cuando fui a terminar este cuadro ya en mi taller, me olvidé de mi historia y les dí igual importancia a toda la sección de adelante, quitándole atención a los árboles de atrás. Tenía muchos elementos adelante y todo dentro del cuadro tenia el mismo rango. Hasta ayer, cuando me dí cuenta de lo que tenía que hacer. Oscurecí la porción de tierra de adelante, le di mas intensidad a los verdes y la pintura se ve mucho mejor ahora, donde vuelvo a poder contar la historia mejor. Asi es que ahora, siempre me pregunto varias veces mientras pinto o aún antes, cuando estoy eligiendo qué pintar: Cuál es tu historia??

The second day of the trip in the Bugaboos started VERY grey, we were completely engulfed by clouds and the forecast for the rest of the morning and possibly the day was not very promising. So instead of going anywhere to get soaked  while attempting to paint grey we decided to stay by the lodge and set up there. There was not much to paint but I still found interest in some of the soft shapes that kept changing as the clouds moved all the time.  Right after lunch, we got the good news:  The weather has changed! Pack up, we are flying out! They took us to the most beautiful place on top of a ridge where we had a 360 degree view of everything! Crystal clear. It was magic. I will tell you more about that afternoon and show you what I did on a different post.
This painting was the one I did from the lodge, most of the peaks at the back were covered the whole time.

El segundo día en los Bugaboos comenzó MUY gris, estabamos completamente encerrados por la nubes y el pronóstico para el resto de la mañanay posiblemente el resto del día no era muy prometedor.  Asi que en lugar de ir a algun lado a  empaparamos mientras tratabamos de pintar gris  decidimos quedarnos en el hotel y pintar desde allí. No había mucho que pintar ya que las nubes cubrían casi todo  pero aún así encontré interés en las formas que cambiaban todo el tiempo con la nubes que se movían todo el tiempo. Despueés del almuerzo, recibimos las buenas noticias: Cambio de tiempo, armen todo que nos vamos! Nos llevaron a la cima de una montaña en la que teníamos una vista de 360 grados hacia todos lados. Les muestro y cuento de esa tarde en otro post mas adelante. :)
Edste cuadro fue el que hice desde el hotel, la mayoría de los picos que había atrás estuvieron cubiertos todo el tiempo.

This one is called "Determination" because that day I was very very busy and despite that, I still did a drawing very late at night before going to sleep.   I am determined to make this project work. With that in mind.... I am keeping it VERY short today to go paint as I have been  under the weather these last few days, that cold going around got me too and I didn't get to paint yesterday or Friday.  Happy Monday!

Este se llama "Determinación" porque ese día había estado muy muy ocupada y a pesar de eso, hice un dibujo a última hora  antes de ir a dormir. Quiero que este proyecto funcione!. Y con estas palabras, la voy a hacer muy corta hoy ya para ir a pintar ya que estos últimos días he estado engripada y no pinté ayer o el viernes. Feliz Lunes a todos!

Light on the Ridge - Day 4 of 260

This painting was the second one painted in Pocket Lake the last day in the Bugaboos. The weather that day as I told you before  was changing every 5 minutes. As we were getting down to  the ridge where we were to paint that day I saw a little pocket of  beautiful light on the ridge and it didn't take very long until the whole back mountain was covered by clouds and the light was gone. I spent the morning thinking of it while I painted something else. But later on, the clouds moved and I quickly started painting,  realizing I didnt't have too long before the clouds that were coming in would cover the light AGAIN. They did indeed cover up everything so as I was already started I concentrated on the moutaiin in front hoping the clouds would move. And AGAIN thankfully they did and I was able to finish the back ridge and put in in the gorgeous little pocket of light, which was not the same, but I  clearly remembered it from the morning. I didn't do too much once in the studio, just keyed up the light a bit more and darkened the silhouettes of the trees. This is probably my favourite painting I did on the trip and it was a great exercise on "visual memory". That light was very much stuck in my head and I used lots of that "memory" while the clouds were playing with me!

Este cuadro fue el segundo del día que pasamos en Pocket Lake, el último día en los Bugaboos. El tiempo ese día como les conté anteriormente cambiaba cada 5 minutos. Cuando estabamos aterriznado en este lugar vi un pedacito hermoso de luz y no pasó mucho tiempo antes de que estuviera totalmente cubierto por nubes. Me pasé la mañana pensando en esa imagen, mientras pintaba el otro cuadro. Pero después, las nubes se fueron y comencé rapidamente a pintar porque sabía que no tenía mucho tiempo antes de otras nubes lo cubrieran DE NUEVO. Efectivamente enseguida no mas las nubes regresaron, cubriendo todo DE NUEVO y como ya había empezado, me concentré en la montaña de adelante esperando que las nubes se fueran. NUEVAMENTE por suerte se fueron y me dejaron ver   las montañas de atrás y la luz, que no era lo mismo pero yo la recordaba claramente de la mañana. No le he agregado mucho a este cuadro una vez en el taller, le aclaré la luz y oscurecí las siluetas de los árboles. Creo que este es mi cuadro favorito de los que pinté en el viaje  y fue un ejercicio excelente de "memoria visual". Esa luz estaba grabada en mi cabeza y usé muchos elementos de esa memoria mientras las nubes jugaban conmigo!!
