I had painted this a while back, as part of the 30 paintings in 30 days September 2014. I had it in the  show I had to display all that work and I could have sold it many times over. I took a commission to do it again, a bit bigger this time and I am happy with the way it turned out. I don't usually paint the same painting twice, but it was  interesting to do it again, there is always the fear that it won't turn out this time.  I am pleased I think I see growth from that painting to this one, see the old one  here, :)

Había pintado este cuadro hace un tiempo, como parte del Desafío de 30 en 30 en Septiembre del 2014. Lo había tenido en una muestra de todo ese trabajo y lo podría haber vendido varias veces. Me lo encargaron, un poco mas grande que el otro y estoy contenta con como salió. Normalmente no pinto el mismo cuadro mas de una vez pero fue interesante hacerlo, siempre existe el temor de que no salga bien. Me parece que ha habido desarrollo desde entonces,   aquí pueden verlo el anterior :)

Felipe's First Shoes

I had to hold off  showing this one as it went to Italy and the recipients didn't know anything about it.
Felipe is my 8-month-old Italian nephew who is absolutely adorable. My brother had sent me a picture of those cute shoes when Felipe was still in his mama's tummy. His first shoes. I had saved the photo, painted back at the beginning of November, had lots of fun with it and was only able to ship it in January after things calmed down a bit in my life. I was very worried it had gotten lost in the mail but last week one day I got this photo and was thrilled to know the painting finally made it all the way to Como. :)







Tuve que esperar para mostrarles este cuadrito ya que fue a Italia y los dueños no sabían nada. Felipe es mi sobrino italiano de 8 meses que es hermoso y estas son sus primeras zapatillas. Mi hermano me había mandado esta foto cuando Felipe estaba todavía en la panza de su mamá. Había guardado la foto y cuando tuve tiempo a comienzos de Noviembre pasado la había pintado  y solo pude despacharla en enero una vez que las cosas se calmaron un poco en mi vida. Estaba muy preocupada porque creí que se había perdido pero me puse muy muy contenta la semana pasada cuando recibí esta foto de Felipe con el paquete que había finalmente llegado a Como. :)

Here is another pair of baby shoes. This time for another good friend who had a baby boy last June. Again, as I did with Maeve's boots, I took a photo of his actual shoes, love it how they look like "big boy" shoes. I had painted this one also before my trip to California.

Acá tiene otro par de zapatitos de bebé. Esta vez para otra buena amiga que tuvo un bebé en Junio. Como con las botas de Maeve, saqué una foto de los zapatitos para pintarlos. Me encanta como son zapatos que parecen de grande! Pinté este cuadro la semana antes de ir a California.

A good friend recently had a beautiful baby girl and I wanted to paint something for her. I have seen Carol Marine and other artists do little baby shoes and I loved them so I wanted to try my own the week before going down to California. These are actually painted from a photo of HER booties, ridiculously cute and small! Welcome to this wonderful world Maeve!

Una gran amiga hace poco tuvo una beba hermosa y quería pinatr algo para ella. He visto a Carol Marine y otros artistas pintar zapatitos de bebés y quise probar hacerlo, las pinté la semana antes de ir a California.  Le saqué una foto  a una par de botas de la beba que son muy bonitas y super chiquitas! Bienvenida a este mundo maravilloso Maeve!

Wow! We did it!! What a ride it has been but more on the conclusions of the challenge on the next post.

Here is another shoe, again from a window display in Venice.  I am very happy with the way this one came out. It was one of those paintings that just poured out of the brush. I love the warm dark in the background and the sparkles (even when I would never wear a shoe like this!)  It was the first time I painted "gold" and it was fun.

Wow! Lo hicimos! Terminamos otro desafío de 30 días! Ha sido un viaje muy bueno, pero mañana comento mas sobre ese proceso y les muestro todos los trabajos juntos.
Por hoy, acá tienen otro zapato, de una vidriera en Venecia. Estoy muy contenta con el resultado de esta pieza, fue una de esas que se cayó del pincel. Me encanta el tono oscuro y cálido del fondo y los brillos (a psar de nunca usaría zapatos como estos!) Fue la primera vez pinté dorado y lo disfruté mucho.

A trip to Italy couldn't be complete without some fashion. Milan has a whole district in the historic centre that is ALL about fashion and design. All the famous brands are there with neat window displays, bodyguards and some outrageous prices. Every other city has all these stores, I found these boots in a display in Venice.  I must admit I am not a shopper at all (much to my daughter's demise) but loved seeing the all the glitter and shine on the windows. I came back home to Canada empty handed in the fashion department, a couple of friends  were highly disappointed. :)  It was hard to photograph the wet dark, oil paint, my apologies for that. Are there any special tricks to it that you know of?

Un viaje a Italia no puede estar completo sin un poco de moda. Milán tiene un distrito en el centro histórico que es TODO de moda y diseño. TODAS las marcas grandes y famosas del mundo están ahí con vidrieras interesantes, guardaespaldas y precios exorbitantes. Muchas de las grandes ciudades tienen estos negocios, encontré estas botas en una vidriera de Venecia. Tengo que admitir que no soy de hacer compras (mi hija siempre se queja de eso)  pero me encantó ver todo el brillo en esos negocios. Volví a Canadá con las manos vacías en ese departamento, un par de amigas estuvieron muy desilusionadas. :) Fue difícil fotografiar la pintura húmeda y oscura, mis disculpas. Hay algún truco especial que uds sepan?

#30 of 30: Muddy Feet

About 6 years ago I started running. I had never done it in my life and never in a million years did I think I would accomplish as much as I have in that department. From not running at all to running a marathon a couple of years ago, proves to me that if you put the effort into something, it can be done.

Anyway, I have met of course a whole new bunch of friends through running, the social aspect is one of the reasons I do it. We have spent many many hours together in trails, roads, mountains and rivers. Yes, rivers, lakes, puddles, rain, snow, ice, you name it. A few years ago, we went as always for a Sunday morning run to Elk/Beaver Lake here in town. It has a 10 k loop around the 2 lakes and there are a few trails to add if you want to. It had been raining a LOT in Victoria that previous week and we set out happily on me of those extra trails knowing we would find some mud. (Yes, we would splash and jump in the puddles like little kids every single chance we had).  This photo is not that day but a different one, you get the idea. 

After about 1.5 k we got to a spot that was a bit flooded..... We thought it was only a bit and then we saw the dog not walking but swimming!  Into the water we went and I ended up with water up to my waist!  We have never seen that much water and mud in that trail before! After getting out of the worst (or best) part we took this picture and I have wanted to paint it for a long time. We were muddy, cold as heck but laughing our guts out. It was one of the best runs I have ever done. Thank You my friends! Lots of good memories!

This is number 30 in the challenge and I am glad and sad at the same about it being finished. It took me a while to really get into it this time because of the trip at the beginning but I am very glad to have done it again. I believe daily practise, just like daily training for running the marathon, gives results, helps growth and plan to keep painting if not daily, almost. I am glad to having been "in my room" for a month!

Hace más o menos 6 años empecé a correr. Nunca lo había echo en mi vida y nunca en un millón de años yo me hubiera imaginado que iba a lograr todo lo que logrado con este deporte. De no correr nada a correr una maratón hace un par de años, prueba de que si se pone el esfuerzo se puede conseguir mucho. 

Por supuesto que en estos años he conocido todo un grupo de amigos, el aspecto social es una de las razones por lo que lo hago. Hemos pasado muchas horas juntos en senderos, calles, montañas y ríos, Sí, ríos, lagos, charcos, lluvia, nieve, hielo, lo que quieran. hace unos años, fuimos como siempre a hacer la corrida del fin de semana  a el Lago Elk/Beaver acá en la ciudad. Tiene un circuito de 10 km alrededor de los dos lagos y hay también algunos senderos extra que se pueden agregar. Había estado lloviendo muchísimo  en Victoria las semana anteriore y empezamos contentos porque sabíamos que íbamos a encontrar barro. (Si, saltamos en los charcos como chiquitos cada vez que podemos; la segunda foto no es de ese día si no de otro día, como para que se den una idea). Después de más o menos 1.5 km llegamos a una parte que estaba un poco inundada.... Creíamos que era sólo un poco pero después vimos que el perro no caminaba si no que nadaba! Seguimos al perro y terminé con agua hasta la cintura! Nunca habíamos visto tanta agua y barro es ese sendero! Después de salir de la peor (o mejor) parte nos sacamos esta foto y hace mucho que la quería pintar. Estábamos super embarrados, muertos de frío pero matándonos de risa. Fue una de las mejores corridas de mi vida. Gracias Amigos! Muchos buenos recuerdos! 

Esta es la número 30 y el fin de este desafío y estoy contenta y triste de que termine. Me costó al principio meterme con todo por el viaje pero estoy muy contenta con haberlo echo de nuevo. Creo que la práctica diaria, igual que el entrenamiento diario para una maratón, da resultados: ayuda al crecimiento y voy a seguir pintando casi a diario.  Estoy contenta de haber estado "en mi pieza" durante un mes!
