Day 28 of 30: Clivia

My mom and dad in Argentina have a beautiful garden and they have an area that is full of agapanthus and clivias in their back yard.  I have a clivia here too but it is an indoor plant This past week it gave me a bloom which of course makes me smile and needed to be painted!
I am very pleased with lots of things in this painting...  I am not done, have to resolve quite a few things still but overall it is going in the right direction.  The light changed throughout the day in my studio (I started early in the morning, stopped at 9.30 and came back after 1 pm) and I can't keep trying to finish it in the current lighting conditions, so I will have to wait till the morning again. For now, here it goes....
At one point in the painting I had lost the drawing (well.... actually at more than one point :) so I used my kemper tool to go back into it,  redraw the shapes to see see them better and keep going. It was very useful to do this. I also use my kemper tool usually to sign my paintings by scraping paint off.

My mamá y mi papá en Argentina tienen un jardín hermoso con una zona  llena de agapantos y clivias. Yo también tengo una clivia acá pero es una planta de interior. Esta semana pasada me ha florecido lo que me puso muy contenta por supuesto!
Estoy bastante contenta con este cuadro.... no está terminado, tengo que resolver unas cuantas cosas mas pero en general va en la dirección adecuada. La luz me cambió durante el día en mi taller, (comencé temprano, paré a las 9.30 y volví despueés de la 1 de la tarde) y no puedo seguir tratando  de terminar con la luz tan diferente, voy a tener que esperar hasta mañana . Por ahora, acá va.....
En un momento había perdido las formas en el cuadro (bueno, en realidad mas de una vez!! :)  Usé mi herramienta Kemper para dibujar de nuevo las formas y rescatar el dibujo de esa forma. (Tiene puntas de goma que levantan la pintura).  Me fue muy útil hacer eso, uso esta herramienta muchas veces para firmar los cuadros levantando la pintura.

Day 11 of 30: Hollyhocks

This  past summer I took a photo of these beautiful hollyhocks from my daughter's boss' garden. I have never painted them nor have I had them in my garden. Well.... today this is changing, I am painting them and I will make sure I have some  growing in my yard next summer! Love the shapes of the flowers and the buds growing on the stocks!!

Este verano  saqué una foto de estas hermosas  "malvas" (no sé si esta es la traducción exacta, en Argentina yo no había visto estas plantas)  que estaban en el jardín de la casa del jefe de mi hija. Nunca había pintado estas flores ni tampoco las he tenido en mi jardín, bueno, hoy las cosas cambian. Las estoy pintando y voy a plantar seguro algunas en mi jardín para tener flores este vearno! Me encantan la forma de la flor y  los pimpollos que crecen en el tallo.

Day 3 of 30: Kisses

Another one that I have to let it breathe for a while! I am only on day 3 of this challenge and I already have a list of things I have learnt! Today and yesterday, I have been at the point of saying ok, I have to wipe this off and start from scratch when I actually stopped for a bite to eat and left the studio. I came back just half an hour later and I could see with fresh eyes knew where I need to make some changes.  I will let it be and reassess in a few days! As always, having a hard time getting a good photo of it.

Esta es otra que tengo que dejar descansar un rato! Vamos sólo por el día 3 y ya tengo una lista de cosas que estoy aprendiendo! Hoy y ayer, he estado a punto de decir, bueno, tengo que borrar el cuadro entero y empezar de nuevo. En ambos casos, paré para comer un bocado y cuando volví media hora más tarde pude ver con mas claridad las areas en las que tenía que hacer ambios. La voy a dejar sola unos días y después evaluo de nuevo! Como siempre, me resulta difícil sacar un abuena foto del cuadro.

I wanted to keep going with yesterday's bouquet, tried a few different set ups but they were not working, so I just went for a simple centered bouquet..... which is something I don't usually do, place my subject in the centre.   I need to let it be for a while before I decide if I am happy with it or not..... Next!   This is about the daily practice more than producing 30 masterpieces, always good to remind mysefl about it!

Quería seguir con el mismo ramito de ayer, probé un par de ideas diferentes pero no funcionaron así que hice un ramo simple en el centro que es algo que no hago mucho, poner mi sujecto en el medio de la composión. Tengo que dejarlo solo unos días ahora  (al cuadro)  antes de decidir si estoy satisfecha o no.... Seguimos adelante con el próximo. Siempre tengo que recordarme que este mes  es para desarrollar una practica diaria más que para producir 30 obras maestras!

Day 1 of 30: Fresh Start

Well.... Here we go again! Day 1 of another challenge and the first day of the year! I love New Years, it's new beginnings, a fresh start, even if it's really not that different from the day before... The energy does feel different for me.

We had a few friends over last night for a New Year's Eve Get-together. A friend (who is a very talented artist by the way)  was after my heart and brought me this gorgeous little bouquet. I knew inmediately,  as well as she did, that I had to paint it so that is what I picked for today's efforts! I wanted to get the impression of the flowers in it, I wanted to stay loose and I am happy with the result! Will see later on after I've had some distance from it whether I go back and add or take away something. Thanks Madelaine!

Bueno, acá vamos de Nuevo! Día número 1 del desafío y el primer día del año! Me encanta el año nuevo, es tiempo de nuevos comienzos, aún cuando en realidad no hay mucha diferencia con el día anterior.... Hay una cierta energía que es diferente, para mí. 

Anoche para celebrar el año nuevo, recibimos algunos amigos en nuestra casa y una amiga (que es una artista de mucho talento) sabía lo que a mi me gusta y me trajo este ramito de flores. Inmediatamente supe que lo tenía que pintar (como ella sabia también) y esto fue lo que elegí para los esfuerzos de hoy! Quería pintar la impresión de las flores, mantenerlo fresco y estoy satisfecha con el resultado. veremos una vez que pasen unos días si le saco o agrego algunas cosas. Gracias Madelaine!!!

I have been opening boxes with Xmas decorations and I found these little angels I have had  forever. They are made of fabric and it is a string of them except that a few years ago the string broke and I have meaning to fix it as  I just can't part with them. Anyway,  I set them up in my still life section and I love them! I like how one of them is kind of holding the other up, just like when best friends lift each other up when in need. Hope you like them!


I've been wanting to write about this for a while: How to keep up with reading the blogs you love?? About six/seven  years ago I didn't quite know what a blog was. I remember asking a friend and she tried to explain the concept and how it worked but it was pretty confusing for me at the time anyway. Fast forward a few years and now it's hard to believe I have published over 200 blog posts myself! Nowadays blogs is one of the main sources of inspiration for me, I read them daily and I follow people I admire and respect. It can be daunting though to try to remember to go to everyone's blogs or to get them in email format, we all get enough emails everyday! To make my life easier I use an app that makes it very simple to stay on top of all of them. That App is free and called FEEDLY.  Basically I just add blogs I like  to my list, I  can categorize them if I want to and it produces a reading list for me and I can read it at my leisure. I just read that you can add publications and YouTube channels as well as blogs (I learn something new everyday!)  That is actually how I start my day: sipping coffee in bed, getting inspired and learning from artists all over the world. I actually set up my alarm clock an hour earlier than I have to get up in order to have enough "me" time.

He estado abriendo cajas de adornos de Navidad y encontré estos angelitos  que hace un montón que los tengo. Son de tela, están unido por hilo grueso que hace algunos año se rompió  y lo tengo que arreglar. La cosa es que los puse en mi zona de naturaleza muertas  y me encantan!! Me gusta como uno es como que lo está levantando al otro de la misma forma que los amigos se apoyan en momentos de necesidad. Espero que les gusten!

Hace rato que quiero  escribir sobre esto: Como poder estar al tanto de todos los blog que te encantan?? Hace seis/siete años ni sabía lo que era un blog. Me acuerdo que una amiga trató de explicarme cómo funcionaban y la verdad es  que no lo entendí muy bien. Hacé para adelante unos cuantos años y me parece increíble que ya he publicado mas de 200 posts! Actualmente los blogs son una de las principales formas de inspiración para mí, los leo a diario y sigo a artistas que admiro y respeto.  Pero  puede ser difícil acordarse de todos o puede ser demasiado recibirlos a todos en tu email. Para simplificarme la vida, uso una app que se llama  FEEDLY.  Basicamente, agrego los blogs que me interesan a mi lista, puedo organizarlos en categorías y cuando se publican me entran automaticamente  a mis lista de lectura. Acabo de leer que se pueden agregar no sólo blogs sino publicaciones de cualquier tipo y canales de YouTube también. Aprendo algo nuevo todos los días! Es así como empiezo mi día todos los días. Tomando café en la cama, inspirándome y aprendiendo de artistas de todo el mundo. Me pongo el despetador una hora antes de tener que levantarme para asegurame de tener suficiente tiempo para "mi".

A Year of Art Making: November - Month 2

November - Month 2 of A Year of Art Making
Noviembre - Mes 2 del Año de Hacer Arte

A few days ago marked the end of the second month of my 260 Days of Art Making Project. I love to pause and actually take stock of what I did accomplish during this time! So far I had been feeling I hadn't gotten as much done these past 30 days BUT when you actually sit down and look..... it's not bad! Not everything is show-worthy of course but that is not what it is all about at the moment.  Not everything fit in the collage so I left a few pieces out.

So I am just plugging along with my commitment to a year of disciplined art habits. I am learning to recognize my own patterns and the fact that it is ok to have days that are less creative or rather, days in which not as much gets accomplished. In the end though,  when you do tally up, it all adds up.
I need  to find the best way of organizing the day. Sometimes I paint first and then do the "office" side, like blogging and posting. Sometimes I do it the other way around. Don't knowwhat I prefer yet.... What I am finding is that it IS true that you DO spend a lot of time doing those other things that are related to painting, just as I hear lots of successful and experienced artists say.

This is what happened this last month:

- I created 26 days out of 30
- I blogged and posted on social media at least twice a week for the whole month. (less than last month but still ok for me)

- Finished 3 small paintings from plein air or from photographs

- Did 2 small paintings from life

- Did 4 zentangles

- Did 4 zentangles on Bird Houses

- Did 6 abstract colour studies
- Did drawings/illustrations and sketches

- Did 5+ mixed media projects

- Attended a Calligraphy class and a weekend workshop on Mixed Media.

- Painted a T-shirt for my son's Halloween costume!! ;)
- Published my first newsletter. Something that has been on my to-do list for quite a while and finally took the time to learn how to do it!  (If you are not on the mailing list for it, you can sign up right here)

I am pleased that I am exploring as I wanted and I am working on improving my skills all the time. I am going to count monthly from now on as it seems easier. I am on day 56 of 260 though..... getting to a quarter of the way there???

Hace algunos días concluyó el segundo mes de mi proyecto 260 Días de Hacer Arte. Me encanta pausar y ver lo que he echo durante este tiempo! Hasta ahora  me parecía que no había echo tanto como el mes anterior PERO cuando uno se sienta y evalúa la verdad es que no está tan mal! No todo es para mandar a exhibiciones por supuesto, pero eso  no es lo que estoy enfocada en este momento. No entró todo lo que hice en  este collage que puse arriba, dejé algunas pieza afuera.

Asi es que sigo en marcha  con mi determinación de hacer un Año de Disciplina de Hábitos Creativos. Estoy aprendiendo a reconocer mis ritmos y el aceptar que es ok tener días en los que no se logra demasiado. Al final, cuando uno cuenta, todo suma. Necesito encontrar la mejor forma de organizar el día. A veces pinto primero y después hago las tareas de "oficina", como el blog. Y a veces lo hago al revés. No se todavía qué prefiero. Lo que sí estoy encontrando es que es verdad que todas esas otras tareas relacionadas con mi pintura llevan mucho tiempo, como he escuchado que dicen a muchos artistas con éxito y experiencia.

Esto es lo que conseguí hacer este mes pasado:

- Creé arte 26 días de los 30.

- Escribí el blog y en medios sociales de forma consistente todo el mes. (Por lo menos dos veces por semana, menos que el mes anterior, pero suficiente para mi)
- Terminé 3 cuadros de fotos 

- Hice 2 cuadros  de naturalezas muertas en el taller.

- Hice 4 zentangles

- Hice 4 zentangles en casitas para pájaros. 

- Hice dibujos, ilustraciones y bosquejos 

- Hice 5 omas trabajos de media mezclada.
- Fui a una clase de caligrafía  y a un curso de un fin de semana para aprender sobre Medios Mezclados. 

- Pinté en una remera para el disfraz de Halloween de mi hijo, ;)

- Publiqué mi primera carta de noticias, algo que hace mucho tiempo que tenía en mi lista y finalmente le dediqué el tiempo para aprender a hacerlo. (Si no están en la lista, pueden anotarse acá, pero es una carta en inglés por  ahora. Voy a ver de crear la misma en español y les aviso para que se anoten en esa lista )

Estoy contenta porque estoy explorando como yo quería y sigo trabajando para mejorar mis habilidades. Voy a empezar a contar por mes de ahora en adelante. Voy por el día 56 de 260.... Ya casi tengo un cuarto echo!??!!  Muy contenta!!

I had to paint a poppy yesterday with Remembrance Day today. I have to admit I was  a bit intimidated by the ruffles in the petals, it is very easy to get lost in them. But in the end, I think it worked, it is VERY wet and this is the best photo I was able to take.
I am looking forward to going to my son's school  today for the Remembrance Day Ceremony. We were there last year and  it was very touching. They named every single soldier that went to that school and died in the wars and as they did that, they snuffed a candle for each one of them.  There was a very solemn air in the room,  everthing gets a new meaning when you can put names and faces to moments like these. This painting is a homage to those, both soldiers and innocent citizens, that lost their lives in any war. Hopefully one day we will rememeber and not go there again.

Tuve que pintar una amapola ya que hoy es el Dia de los Caídos en la Guerra. La verdad es que le tenía un poco de miedo a todos los pliegos en los pétalos de la amapola, es muy fácil perderse ahí adentro pero al final me parece que funcionó. La pintura está muy muy húmeda y esta es la mejor foto que le pude sacar.

Estamos listos para ir hoy a la Ceremonia de Los Caídos en la Guerra en la escuela de mi hijo. Fuimos el año pasado y  fue muy emotiva, nombraron a cada alumno que fue a esa escuela y murió en una guerra y a medida que los nombraban, apagaban una vela por cada uno.  Había por supuesto un aire muy solemne en el gimnasio, todo tiene un significado diferente cuando se ponen nombres y caras  a ocasiones como estas. Esta pintura es un homenage a todos los caídos en cualquier guerra (soldados o ciudadanos inocentes). Ojalá que algún día recordemos  y no estemos nuevamente en esas situaciones.

I most certainly had not had enough with the white flowers, so I set out to do them again. This time I chose a different viewpoint and a different light source. I am pretty happy with the way it worked out as well.

I am very happy to let you know that 4 of my paintings have been included in the Small Treasures Show at Coast Collective, show runs from Nov 4 to 22nd, with an opening reception with artists in attendance (including moi) this coming Saturday, Nov 7, 2 to 4pm. Hope to see some of you there! It is time to start thinking about Xmas gifts and these small treasures would make wonderful gifts!

No me había sacado las ganas del todo con las flores blancas así que la hice de nuevo esta vez elegí un punto de vista diferente y una luz diferente también estoy bastante contenta con cómo queda.

Estoy muy contenta de contarles que cuatro de mis cuadros han sido incluídos en la muestra "Pequeños Tesoros" en Coast Collective, que va desde el 4 al 22 de Noviembre con una recepción de apertura con los artistas (incluyéndome a mí)  este sábado que viene 7 de Noviembre de 2 a 4 de la tarde. Espero verlos a algunos de ustedes ahí! Es hora de empezar a pensar en regalos de navidad y estos pequeños tesoros serían muybuenos regalos de Navidad.

One of my action goals for the future is to paint more  from life. I strongly agree with the ones that say painting from life can really help improve your skills  and teach you to really "see",  plus you get an incredible amount of information that you cannot see in a photograph.
I had these white flowers on the kitchen counter (sorry, don't know the name,  does anyone?? They are blooming everywhere right now) and I just went for it. The paiting came together very easily and I really like what happened here. Magic. :)

Una de mis metas es pintar mas de cosas reales y no de fotos. Creo con firmeza que esta práctica  es una de las mejores formas de mejorar, te enseña a "ver" de verdad; además de eso, se pueder ver una gran cantidad de información que se pierde en la foto.
Tenía este florero con estas flores blancas en la mesada de la cocina (no se el nombre de las flores, sabe alguien? Es un arbusto que está florecido por todos lados

YAY ME!!!! - 27 of 260 done!

So, Yesterday Oct 25 marked 30 calendar days from the start of my 260 Days of Art Making Project and am I excited about it all or what!!????

This is what happened (I LOVE counting and being able to quantify this way!)
- I created 27 days out of 30
- I blogged and posted on social media consistenly for the whole month.

- Finished 10 small paintings from plein air or from photographs

- Did 4 small paintings from life

- Wiped one plein air

- Did 4 zentangles

- Did 4 drawings/illustrations

- Did 2 drawings/sketches

- Did 3 mixed media projects 

I am so so happy with everything I got to do this past month. It's time now to take a look and see if I want to change anything or not to make things work better.  The one thing I will change is I'll go down to posting 3 times a week instead of 5 (it takes me a long tome to get each post ready to publish!)  I also want to tackle some bigger works and go out to do more plein air. I am VERY excited to see what next brings :) I haven't posted all the images you see in the collage, will get to that in the next few posts.

Ayer marqué 30 días de calendario desde que comencé el proyecto de 260 Días de Hacer Arte y estoy tan contenta!!

Esto fue lo que ocurrió:

- Creé arte 27 días de los 30.

- Escribí el blog y en medios sociales de forma consistente todo el mes.
- Terminé 10 cuadros de fotos o empezados al aire libre

- Hice 4 cuadros  de naturalezas muertas en el taller.

- Borré un cuadro que hice al aire libre. 

- Hice 4 zentangles

- Hice 4 dibujos/ilustraciones

- Hice 2 dibujos/bosquejos
- Hice 3 trabajos de media mezclada.

Estoy tan tan contenta y satisfecha con todo lo que logré hacer este mes pasado. Ahora es tiempo de ver qué funcionó y qué no funcionó para hcer los cambios necesarios. Lo que ya se que voy a cambiar es voy a escribir  en este blog 3 veces por semana en lugar de 5 (escribir cada blog me lleva mucho tiempo normalmente). Quiero además hacer algunas piezas de mayor tamaÑo y quiero pintar al aire libre más a menudo. Estoy  MUY entusiasmada con  ver qué logro este mes  que viene!! :)

No he publicado todas las imágenes que ven en el collage de arriba, voy a publicarlas en los próximos posts.

You wouldn't know by looking at this painting that the weather was the most miserable thing we encountered that trip. It was rainy, cold, and so windy, spent a lot of time just holding on to my things so they would fly away. My easel ended up in the lake right from the get go, as I stood it up, turned to grab my backpack to weigh it and the whole thing flew in the water!  There was SO much water in it it was kind of funny. Liz Wiltzen who has done a lot of plein air  said she had never had such miserable weather for painting, so yay for us, for sticking to it!  I was actually not that cold for most of the day, had so many layers! By the end though, yes, it was getting to my bones and I was happy to pack up and go home. One of the challenges of the day was to find interest in an otherwise very flat picture. It was hard to find what the interesting part that I wanted to paint.

Whenever I attend workshops, I take away different things from different instructors. One of the big lessons from Liz  this time was "What's your story?".  When choosing what to paint, you are attracted to one thing that makes you want to paint it, whether that is the light, a particular shape, the way 2 colours relate to each other, etc. It is also very easy to get distracted by other elements  in the painting and forget what that story is. EVERYTHING in the painting has to be subordinate to THAT ONE thing you choose to be your story, otherwise if all the elements have equal importance then we don't really know what we are looking at. I had of course heard that before but this time the student was ready, and it sank in. In today's painting, my story this time was the brighter lighter green trees on the island next to the light in the background. The trouble I encountered here was that in trying to finish the piece once back in my studio, I forgot  what my story was. I had a lot of foreground,  I gave it way too much importance, taking attention away from the trees and  everything had equal rank.  Until yesterday when I darkened the value of the foreground and punched up the greens. I am MUCH more satisfied now with the way the overall painting reads. I feel I was able to go back to telling my story better. So I always remind myself to ask several times, even before I start when I am picking what to paint: What's my story??

Al mirar este cuadro seguro que no se imaginan el mal tiempo que tuvimos ese día, fue el peor de todos del viaje a los Bugaboos. Llovía, hacía frio y tanto viento que me pasé la mayor parte del tiempo sosteniendo mi atril para que no se volara. Mientras estaba armando todo,  me di vuelta para buscar la mochila y ponerla de peso en el atril, vino una ráfaga y me lo voló entero al lago! Había tanta agua en todos mis materiales que era gracioso. Liz Wiltzen, nuestra profesora que ha echo mucha pintura al aire libre, nos dijo que este había sido una de los peores días de su vida para pintar afuera asi que arriba nosotros! que pintamos y todo en esas condiciones. En realidad yo no tuve tanto frio, tenía muchas capas pero de todas formas estuve contenta de desarmar campamento al final del día ya que estaba empezando ano poder mover los dedos del frio en las manos! Uno de los desafíos del día fue que estaba todo bastante gris y aburrido, fue difícil encontrar algo interesante para pintar.

Siempre que voy a cursos, me llevo una o mas cosas de valor que aprendo de los instructores. Una de las grandes lecciones de este viaje que aprendí de Liz fue "Cual es tu historia?". Cuando estamos eligiendo qué pintar, siempre estamos atraídos por un elemento mas que otros, ya sea la luz, una de las formas que vemos, o la relación de dos colores. Tambén es muy fácil distraerse con otros elementnos dentro del cuadro y olvidarnos así de cual es nuestra historia que queremos contar. TODOS los elementos  dentro del cuadro tienen que estar subordinados a esa UNA cosa que elegimos  ser nuestra historia ya que si todos los elementos tienen igual importancia,  cuando miramos al cuadro no sabemos bien qué mirar. Por supuesto que yo había escuchado esto antes  pero esta vez, la alumna estaba lista para escuchar eso y esta vez lo entendí. En el caso del cuadro de hoy, mi historia son los verdes claros en los árboles de la isla y la luz que había detrás. El problema fue que cuando fui a terminar este cuadro ya en mi taller, me olvidé de mi historia y les dí igual importancia a toda la sección de adelante, quitándole atención a los árboles de atrás. Tenía muchos elementos adelante y todo dentro del cuadro tenia el mismo rango. Hasta ayer, cuando me dí cuenta de lo que tenía que hacer. Oscurecí la porción de tierra de adelante, le di mas intensidad a los verdes y la pintura se ve mucho mejor ahora, donde vuelvo a poder contar la historia mejor. Asi es que ahora, siempre me pregunto varias veces mientras pinto o aún antes, cuando estoy eligiendo qué pintar: Cuál es tu historia??

Determination - Day 5 of 260

This one is called "Determination" because that day I was very very busy and despite that, I still did a drawing very late at night before going to sleep.   I am determined to make this project work. With that in mind.... I am keeping it VERY short today to go paint as I have been  under the weather these last few days, that cold going around got me too and I didn't get to paint yesterday or Friday.  Happy Monday!

Este se llama "Determinación" porque ese día había estado muy muy ocupada y a pesar de eso, hice un dibujo a última hora  antes de ir a dormir. Quiero que este proyecto funcione!. Y con estas palabras, la voy a hacer muy corta hoy ya para ir a pintar ya que estos últimos días he estado engripada y no pinté ayer o el viernes. Feliz Lunes a todos!

Light on the Ridge - Day 4 of 260

This painting was the second one painted in Pocket Lake the last day in the Bugaboos. The weather that day as I told you before  was changing every 5 minutes. As we were getting down to  the ridge where we were to paint that day I saw a little pocket of  beautiful light on the ridge and it didn't take very long until the whole back mountain was covered by clouds and the light was gone. I spent the morning thinking of it while I painted something else. But later on, the clouds moved and I quickly started painting,  realizing I didnt't have too long before the clouds that were coming in would cover the light AGAIN. They did indeed cover up everything so as I was already started I concentrated on the moutaiin in front hoping the clouds would move. And AGAIN thankfully they did and I was able to finish the back ridge and put in in the gorgeous little pocket of light, which was not the same, but I  clearly remembered it from the morning. I didn't do too much once in the studio, just keyed up the light a bit more and darkened the silhouettes of the trees. This is probably my favourite painting I did on the trip and it was a great exercise on "visual memory". That light was very much stuck in my head and I used lots of that "memory" while the clouds were playing with me!

Este cuadro fue el segundo del día que pasamos en Pocket Lake, el último día en los Bugaboos. El tiempo ese día como les conté anteriormente cambiaba cada 5 minutos. Cuando estabamos aterriznado en este lugar vi un pedacito hermoso de luz y no pasó mucho tiempo antes de que estuviera totalmente cubierto por nubes. Me pasé la mañana pensando en esa imagen, mientras pintaba el otro cuadro. Pero después, las nubes se fueron y comencé rapidamente a pintar porque sabía que no tenía mucho tiempo antes de otras nubes lo cubrieran DE NUEVO. Efectivamente enseguida no mas las nubes regresaron, cubriendo todo DE NUEVO y como ya había empezado, me concentré en la montaña de adelante esperando que las nubes se fueran. NUEVAMENTE por suerte se fueron y me dejaron ver   las montañas de atrás y la luz, que no era lo mismo pero yo la recordaba claramente de la mañana. No le he agregado mucho a este cuadro una vez en el taller, le aclaré la luz y oscurecí las siluetas de los árboles. Creo que este es mi cuadro favorito de los que pinté en el viaje  y fue un ejercicio excelente de "memoria visual". Esa luz estaba grabada en mi cabeza y usé muchos elementos de esa memoria mientras las nubes jugaban conmigo!!

This is what I had done on site that day

The last day we were in the Bugaboos we went to a place called Pocket Lake. Gorgeous spot of course where there were so many paintings to do that I could have stayed there for weeks and not run out of subject matter! The weather that day was crazy, we had all kinds, from sunshine and warmth to snow and clouds, many times over. Soon after we got there, I saw this small larch  which had been cut in half, who knows, maybe a windstorm, snow, bears?? Anyway, what caught my eye was the gorgeous colour it was turning. We were told in a couple of weeks they would all be looking like this one with Fall  and cooler temperatures fast approaching.   (Larches are a kind of deciduous conifer, before moving to Canada I didn't know conifers could be deciduous???) The water on the lake kept changing colours with sun peeking in and out all the time. It would go from grey and flat to beautiful tones of green and turquoise. The whole day I was kind of hoping and dreading at the same time a bear encounter. Lyle, our wonderful guide, told us a mama bear had died in an avalanche right there a couple of years ago and her 2 cubs keep coming back. Last year they both did, this year they have seen only one of them so our guide  (who kept an eye open for bears all the time) said they were around for sure. I wish we had seen one but  I am also glad we didn't!!!  Seeing a grizzly would have scared the heck out of me!

El último día que estuvimos en los Bugaboos fuimos a un lugar llamado Lago Pocket. Lugar  hermosísimo en el que había tantos cuadros para pintar que me podría haber quedado ahí por semanas para pintarlos a todos! El tiempo ese día estuvo luco, tuvimos desde sol a nieve y nubes varias veces.  Apenas llegamos, vi este alerce que se estaba poniendo amarillo que estaba cortado por la mitad, quién sabe, viento, nieve, un oso?? Lo que me interesó para pintar fueron los hermosos tonos de amarillos y ocres que estaba empezando a tomar. Me dijeron que en un par de semanas mas todos iban a empezar a ponerse amarillos al acercarse el otoño.  Los alerces son una conífera de hojas caducas, (Antes de venir a Canadá no sabía que algunas coníferas son de hojas caducas). El agua cambiaba de color todo el tiempo cuando el sol salía y se entraba. Se ponía toda gris y cambiaba a distintos tonos de verdes y turquesas. El día entero estuve medio como esperando y temiendo que se apareciera un oso. Lyle, nuestro guía nos dijo que hace dos años se había muerto una mamá osa en una avalancha en este lugar y los ositos siguen volviendo. El año pasado volvieron los dos, y este año han visto a uno solamente, pero seguro que andan por ahí. Es una pena que no hayamos visto ninguno pero al mismo tiempo me alegro!!! Me hubiero muerto de miedo si hubiese visto un oso gris en su ambiente|!!!
