#37: Pear

I painted this pear back in July right after I painted the tomatoes  below which I have already posted earlier.  I was trying the same set up, same lighting with different subject. 

I really enjoyed doing that as I felt I progressed from one into the next one kind of knowing what I was doing, learning from one painting into the next one. :) I think I may  do some along this idea, I like them .

At present I am working on a couple of larger acrylics that are on the right track, they are working out, but they are not ready for showing just quite yet. I hope to be able to write on the blog more often from now on and get back to a routine!

Pinté esta pera en Julio después de pintar los tomates que puse abajo que ya les había mostrado. Estaba probando de pintar con el mismo arreglo, la misma luz, distinto sujeto. Disfruté mucho de hacer esto ya que sentí que había progreso de una pintura a la otra, y empezaba la próxima medio como ya sabiendo lo que hacía. :) Creo que voy a tener que hacer mas siguiendo esta idea. Me gustan .

Estoy en este momento trabajando en un par de acrílicos más grandes que van bien, están bien encaminados pero no están listos para mostrar todavía. Espero poder escribir en el blog más seguido de acá en adelante y volver a una rutina!

#36: Poppy

I painted this poppy back at the beginning of the summer and it is a prime example of one of those paintings that I get to like more as time goes by. When I first finished it, I didn't quite like it but let it be. Now I have come to really like it! 

I don't usually take too many process photos but in this case I did and here they are backwards.

Pinté esta amapola al cominezo del verano y es un perfecto ejemplo de uno de esos cuadros que me empieza a gustar mas una vez que pasa el tiempo. Cuando recién lo terminé no estaba muy satisfecha pero lo dejé. Y ahora me gusta mucho!
Normalmente no saco muchas fotos del proceso que uso para pintar. En este caso saqué algunas fotos  y acá están.

I had one of these poppies in the yard and I was afraid of cutting it as I didn't know how long they lasted off the plant, it held up pretty nicely actually, even under the light! 

Tenía una de esta amapolas en el jardín y tenía miedo de cortarla porque no sabía cuánto tiemp iba a durar una vez cortada, pero se mantuvo muy bien, aún debajo de la lámpara!

Here I drew in with the brush the main shapes after a first initial wash to tone the canvas.

Acá simplemente dibujé con el pincel las formas principales despues de una capa liviana  para tonalizar el lienzo

I started applying colour in the main shapes.

Empecé a aplicar color en las formas principales

I started playing a bit more, pushing, pulling and changing  shapes and values until I was happier. I still made more changes after this one to get to the finished one.

Empecé a jugar un poco mas, poniendo, sacando y cambiando formas y valores hasta que estuve un poco mas satisfecha. Hice mas cambios despues de estos hasta llegar a la final.

#35: Early Spring

I started this painting back in April and it was my first plein-air sketch in oils. I honestly didn't quite know what I was doing with oils. However I kind of liked the fresh feel it had. It had started raining so I hadn't had a chance to finish it quite back then that day. My oils were quickly turning into watercolours!! So in my quest to finish half done pieces and my lack of time at the present moment I grabbed this one yesterday. I am not sure yet if I am happy with it but  I like it for what it is: a plein-air sketch. But I am not sure I did a great job when you start considering all the things to think about for a successful painting. Overall, it depicts the trees we have ALL around us here. Small lakes and trees. This was at the Boys & Girls Club in Sooke (A summer camp place for kids)

Empecé esta pintura en la primavera en Abril y fue el primer estudio en plein-air (al aire libre) con óleos. Honestamente no sabía muy bien qué  hacer con los óleos. Sin embargo, me gusta el espíritu libre y poco trabajado que tiene este sketch. Había empezado a llover, los óleos se estabn convirtiendo en acuarelas y no lo había terminado ese día. A sí que ahora mi misión de terminar piezas a medias y mi falta de tiempo en este momento me llevó a agarrar este estudio hoy. No estoy muy convencida todavía si me gusta o no pero estoy contenta con el resultado si consideramos lo que es: un sketch en plein-air. No estoy segura si he echo un buen trabajo cuando pensamos en todos los elementos necesarios para tener una pintura lograda. En general, muestra lo que tengo alrededor por TODOS lados en esta zona. Laguitos y árboles. Ese día habíamos estaba en el Club de Los Chiocs y Chicas en Sooke. (Una especie de campamento para niños en el verano).

#34: Entrance Island

I finished this one yesterday. I had started it last year when a group of us went on a painting trip to Gabriola Island. Worked on it a couple of times since then but never really finishing it. I am so glad it is now!! On that trip we spent 3 days there just painting and enjoying lots of art talk and company. Entrance Island is a name I had heard for years through the VHF on the boat. It is one of the marine stations that relays weather informacion. It  was also the firts sighting I had of land on a particularly bouncy and foggy crossing of the straight a few years ago coming back from Desolation Sound. (I am a fair weather sailor!) So it was a place that I enjoyed painting when I actually saw it more up close.

We need to organize another one of those plein air trips soon!!

Terminé esta ayer. La había empezado el año pasado cuando fui con un grupo de gente a la Isla Gabriola a pintar. Otro par de veces volví a agarrala pero no había logrado terminarla y estoy contenta de que ahora sí esté!! En ese viaje, durante 3 días, pintamos, hablamos de arte y disfrutamos mucho. La Isla de Entrada es un nombre que durante años había escuchado por la radio VHF en el velero ya que hay una estación metereologica que da anuncios del tiempo. También fue la primera vista de tierra que tuve después de una cruzada particularmente neblinosa y de mar picado hace unos años cuando volvíamos de un viaje. (Yo soy Marinera de buen tiempo, como se dice en inglés!)  Así que fue un lugar que disfrute mucho pintar desde tan cerca esta vez. 

Tenemos que organizar pronto otro viaje como este para  pintar!!

#33: Going North

I painted this one the week before the challenge started on our sailing trip back in August. I believe we were going with the wind and things were quite level so I set up everyrhing and had some fun!
This is the kind of thing you see alot of here in the Pacific North West and the Gulf Islands. I never get tired of enjoying this scenery!

This was the set up on the boat, was trying  my new paint box for the first time (which I love!) I will going into more detail about  the box in a different post. Covered the table with a plastic tablecloth from the dollar store (I get paint everywhere, most of it is on me and the canvas, but just in case, protecting the surfaces was mandatory on the boat!)

Pinté esta la semana anterior a empezar el desafío en nuestra vacación en el velero a fines de Agosto. Creo que ibamos en la misma direccion del viento y las cosas estaban bastante niveladas asi que armé todo y me divertí un rato! Esto es lo que se ve mucho acá en el Noroeste Pacífico y las Islas del Golfo. No me canso nunca de disfrutar de estos paisajes!
La segunda foto es de el área de trabajo en el velero, estaba usando mi caja de pinturas nueva (que me encanta!) voy a entrar más en detalles con respecto a esta caja más adelante. Cubrí la mesa con un mantel de plástico que compré en el todo por 1 peso (Termino con pintura en todos lados, sobre todo sobré mi y el lienzo pero por las dudas, el proteger las superficies es mandatorio en el velero!)

This is an oldie but appropriate for this time of the year here, it seems this week all the trees are turning and the colors are just gorgeous everywhere you go.  We spent the last couple of days up in Lake Cowichan at a friend's house. It is on the lake and the view out was just so peaceful. They opened up their home and shared Thanksgiving dinner with us. (Turkey was delicious!) It is always very special to be able to spend time with good friends you don't often see.  Today we went for a walk close to their house and I took a LOT of photos. Hopefully some of them transform into paintings soon!

I have a lot to be thankful for. Hopefully  even if you are not in Canada celebrating Thanksgiving today, this serves as a chance for you to make a list of things you are thankful for! Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Esta pintura es vieja, la pinté hace varios años pero es apropiada para esta altura del año. Parece que esta semana todos los árboles estan cambiando de color y por todos lados los colores son hermosísimos. Pasamos la noche en el Lago Cowichan en la casa de unos amigos. La casa está sobre el lago y la vista era hermosa y muy serena. Nos abrieron las puertas y compartieron su cena de Acción de Gracias con nosotros (El pavo estuvo riquísimo!). Es siempre especial compatir tiempo con buenos amigos! Hoy fuimos a caminar a un parque cerquita de su casa y saqué MUCHAS fotos  y  espero que algunas se tranformen en pinturas pronto.

Tengo muchas cosas por las cuales estar agradecida. Espero que aunque no estén Canada celebrando Acción de Gracias tomen esta oportunidad para hacer una lista de las cosas que tiene para agradecer! Feliz Acción de Gracias para Todos!

#32: Tomatoes

Busy, busy in the studio today, finishing edges, varnishing and wiring paintings from the 30 in 30 challenge, getting them ready to show. I'll be taking some of them to Coast Collective next week (so if you were truly interested in any of them, send me a message and let me know, before they hit the street!) Some of you have asked what I was going to do with them, if they were for sale and yes, most of the paintings in this blog are for sale! I will slowly go back on each day and add the prices.  I have to get more canvas you know and foster the addiction, right? :)

Anyway, this tomatoes painting was done back in June and I learnt so much while painting it! I was trying the lighting from above and worked hard at getting the transparency tomatoes have sometimes. I learnt a tremendous amount that day on how oils behave and the magic of a light touch sometimes. I am pretty happy with the way this one turned out.

Mucho trabajo  en el taller hoy! Pintado los bordes de los lienzos, barnizando y preparando las pinturas para mostrar. Esta semana que viene voy a llevar algunas a Coast Collective para mostrarlas. (Así que si alguien estaba realmente interesado en alguna, mándenme un mensaje antes de que estas piezas salgan a la calle!!). Varias personas me han preguntado que que iba a hacer con todos estos cuadros, si los iba a vender y la respuesta es si, la mayoría de los cuadros en el blog estan a la venta, voy a entrar de a poco y agregar los precios de cada una. Uno tiene que poder comprar más lienzos a alimentar la adicción no? :)

Pinté estos tomates en Junio y aprendí mucho ese día! Estaba iluminando los de arriba y trabajé bastante para conseguir esa transparencia que los tomates tienen a veces. Aprendí en el proceso como se comportan los óleos y la magia de una pincelada suave y liviana. Estoy bastante contenta con como me quedó esta pieza. 

#31: Orange

I think that the goals have been set. I want to get to the 100 paintings I was talking about  and this is coming from one of a letter Robert Genn wrote a long time ago. I actually just went digging in the Painter's Keys website and found it! It was in 2004!! In it, someone starting to paint wants to get some criticism from him about her painting and  his response was "Go do another 100 and come back". I am sure I have painted more than 100 paintings in my life time but I want to do them within a certain period of time as  that when I believe you can actually develop your  work and there can be progress. (Click here to see that clickback on The Painter's Key website) I haven't quite set the time frame yet though. I would like to get it done before the end of the year but I need to be realistic as to everything else happening in my life at the moment, including a trip to Argentina in December to spend Xmas down there.  I am starting to count since June 2013 which is when I actually started painting again and I am up to 45 finished (or almost finished) pieces :) I'll start posting the ones you haven's seen yet as they were painted  before the challenge. The deadline maybe the end of January and that would be very "doable" as there is another challenge coming in Jan! I have a couple more goals that I will be sharing with you in the next few posts (which will actually happen not everyday but just a few times a week)

So here we go with number 31. I painted this the week after Liz Wiltzen's workshop and just starting with oils.

Creo que he dedicidio cuales son mis metas próximas. Quiero llegar al número 100 del que hablaba hace unos días y esta idea viene de una de las cartas  semanales que Robert Genn escribió hace mucho tiempo. Acabo de ir a su website y la encontré! Fue en el 2004!! En esta carta, una persona que está empazando a pintar quiere  que él le critique lo que había pintado y el respondió: "Andá a hacer otras 100 y volvé" Yo estoy segura que  he pintado mas de 100 piezas en mi vida pero quiero hacerlo dentro de una cantidad determinada de tiempo porque creo que asi es como uno puede desarrollar un estilo y se puede ver progreso. Sigan este link para ver esa carta en el sitio de Robert Genn que se llama La Clave del Pintor (o algo asi) No he determinado todavía cuál va a ser el límite de tiempo que me voy a poner. Me gustaría terminarlo antes de fin de año pero se que tengo que ser realista con todo el resto de cosas en mi vida, incluyendo una viaje a Argentina para Navidad. Voy a empezar a contar desde Junio de este año que es cuando empecé a pintar de nuevo y ya tengo 45 piezas terminadas (o casi terminadas) :) Voy a empezar a poner acá en el blog los que no han visto que pinté ante de comenzar el desafío. El límite sea tal vez a fines de Enero y eso sería bastante posible ya que hay otro desafío en Enero! Hay otro par de metas que voy a comparit con uds en los proximos dias. (No voy a poner cosas en el blog todos los días)

Acá vamos entonces con la número 31. La pinté la semana siguiente al curso con Liz Wiltzen y estaba empezando con óleos.

Organizing

It is sooooo nice to work in an organized space! For the 30 days challenge I sort of cleared the space I needed to paint and got busy! There was no time for turning my studio into to a really functional place. My studio is in half of he garage of our house. There is a wall partitioning both sides of the garage so it does feel like its own space.  I have excellent shelves for storage, a great window, heat and it works. I really like the fact that it is IN the house as that allows me to turn on the oven for instance if I have to or the kids can easily get me if they need anything. (I have a 14 year old son Mateo and a 16 year old daughter, Camila) As I haven't actually painted too much in the last 5 years, things had gotten just shoved in there over time and it was not working, so I spent a bit of time in there the last couple of days and I am thrilled with the results!  Not very happy with the overhead  lighting I have but I have to do some research what I want in there. Fellow artists out there, what  kind of lighting do you have in your studio?  Looks like I have canvases and boards for another 30 days! Time to get back into creating!

Es tan bueno trabajar en un espacio organizado!!!! Durante los 30 días del desafío había ordenado un poco mi taller para pintar y me puse a trabajar! No había tiempo para transformar mi taller en un lugar realmente funcional. Mi taller está en el garage de nuestra casa. Hay una pared que hace de división entre los 2 garage así que es como si fuera una habitación. Tengo estanterías excelentes para guardar cosas, una ventana grande, calefacción  y funciona bien como taller. Me gusta especialmente el echo de que está DENTRO de la casado raque de da forma puedo perder el horno por ejemplo si me hace falta o los chicos me pueden venir a buscar si me necesitan (tengo un hijo Mateo de 14 y una hija! Camila, de 16). Como no he pintado mucho en los últimos 5 años, las cosas se habían apilado con el tiempo y el espacio no funcionaba así que en los últimos dos días he reorganizado todo y estoy súper contenta con los resultados! No estoy muy contenta con la luz artificial que tengo pero tengo que hacer un poco de investigación con respecto a lo que quiero ahí. Artistas: que luz artificial usan en sus talleres?  Parece que tiengo suficientes lienzos y maderas para otros 30 dias! Es hora de volver a crear!

30 paintings in 30 Days

As I said at the beginning of this all, I watched artists this past January do what I just did. I was so envious of all their painting time, their progress and their results. I was wishing at the time I was doing it with them but being quite sure that I couldn't do it for whatever reason came up. Didn't think I could do it. When I saw it come up again I knew it was time and I am so happy I did it. I feel I have grown as an artist, learnt a lot (from blogging  to creating a collage today and many things in between). I know some of you have felt this past month like I felt last January, wishing you were doing it with us. :) Well.... Leslie is doing it again in January so get ready and jump in! I already know there is at least one more artist here in Victoria doing it! It was fun, hard and very rewarding.

I will continue to paint at a slower pace now that the challenge is over. I will continue with the practice of painting small daily paintings, except that they will be "almost daily" and I also want to work on some larger pieces. I want to get to a 100 paintings starting to count from last June when I took that workshosp with Liz Wiltzen but I haven't set a specific date yet. (By the end of the year crossed my mind but I am not sure I can do it, I have to go count how many I do already have :)  Goals keep me going and focused. I will continue the blog and hope to have you stop by and visit again!

Como dije al principio de todo esto, este Enero pasado miré a un montón de artistas hacer lo que yo acabo de hacer. Tenía tanta envidia del tiempo que le dedicaban a su pintura, sus progresos y sus resultados. Deseaba poder hacerlo con ellos pero sabía que no podía por cualquier razón que se me ocurriera. No creía  que podia hacerlo. Cuando ví que hacían el desafío de nuevo supe que era el momento y estoy tan contenta de haberlo echo. Siento que he crecido como artista, he aprendido mucho (desde como hacer un blog hasta armar este collage hoy y muchas más cosas en el medio). Yo se que algunos de Uds. se han sentido este mes como yo me sentí el enero pasado, deseando estar haciéndolo con nosotros :) así que tienen que prepararse porque en Enero Leslie lo hace de nuevo! Ya se que hay aunque sea una más acá en Victoria que va a participar!

Yo voy a seguir pintando a un ritmo más liviano, voy a seguir con la práctica de pinturas chiquitas "casi" diarias y quiero completar algunas piezas más grandes. Quiero llegar a 100 empezando a contar desde Junio cuando tomé ese curso con Liz Wiltzen pero no he puesto una fecha todavía. (Se me cruzó que tal vez sea antes de fin de año pero no se si tengo tiempo, tengo que contar cuantas ya tengo listas) Esas metas son las que me mantienen motivada. Voy a seguir con el blog y espero que me sigan visitando!

Day 30: Wow!

Wow!!! Amazing!!!   I did it!!! I am so so happy I was able to participate in this challenge and keep up, it has been bootcamp for my art for sure! After many years of not painting really or doing it so sporadically that it didn't count this has has been great!

Of course, one of the best ways to celebrate something is to have fireworks! And these are dedicated to all the artists that took part in the last 30 days painting marathon! Kudos to you all!

Every August long weekend at the Inner Harbour in Victoria downtown there is  something called Symphony Splash. The Victoria Symphony plays a concert on a barge and there are thousands of people sitting on the lawns of the parliament buildings and the empress hotel. It is a big festival and the music is of course beautiful. At the end they always play Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture and the are fireworks to go with the cannons. We were there this past summer and here are the fireworks from that night. The brighter rectangular thing at the bottom is actually the stage. This is the first time that I paint night, it was fun. I already see things to correct (once I put it on the screen) :) but brushes are clean tonight already! (Have to retake that photo!! Way too much glare! After I correct some stuff:)

And now what? What next? Probably a day or two of rest (and tidy up the studio) and some thinking about the next goal.... I think I am liking the number 100.

Wow!!! Increíble!!! Lo logré!!! Estoy tan tan contenta con haber participado en este desafío y haber podido llevar el ritmo, ha sido gimnasia militar para mi arte! Después de muchos años de no pintar, o pintar tan esporádicamente que no se puede contar esto ha sido bárbaro!

Por supuesto, una de las mejores formas de festejar cualquier cosa es con fuegos artificiales! Y estos están dedicados a todos los artistas que formaron parte de esta maratón de pintura! Felicitaciones a todos!

Todos los principios de Agosto en el Puerto Interno del Centro de Victoria hay un evento que se llama el Splash de la Sinfónica. La Orquesta Sinfónica de Victoria toca un concierto sobre una balsa en el puerto y hay miles de personas en los pastos del parlamento y el Hotel Emperatriz. Es una festival muy grande y la música es por supuesto hermosa. Al final siempre tocan la Obertura 1812 de Tchaikovsky y hay fuegos artificiales con los cańones. Este verano pasado estuvimos ahí y estos son los fuegos de esa noche. El rectángulo más brillante de la parte de abajo es el escenario. Esta es la primera vez que pinto una escena de noche y me gustó. (Pero ya veo algunas cosas que tengo que corregir pero los pinceles están lavados esta noche ya! (Tengo que sacar esa foto de nuevo, tiene demasiado reflejo! después de corregir algunas cosas :)

Gracias a todos los que me apoyaron, me alentaron, comentaron acá, en FB, en persona! Todo el apoyo ha sido muy importante para mi. Gracias a Leslie Saeta por organizar todo y gracias a Sharlene Stushnov-Lee por hacer el desafío conmigo en Victoria.

Y ahora que? Qué es lo próximo? Probablemente uno o dos días de descanso (y ordenar el taller) y a pensar cual es la próxima meta....  Me parece que me gusta el número 100. 

Day 29: Sanctuary

Painting is interesting and it is always different. Sometimes you get on a roll and things work out..... Some other times they don't. After the crow coming out so easily, I decided to paint some flowers from life and they were just NOT really working so I wiped it out and decided to finish one that was very close to being done. Wiping was very liberating!!  I had started this one at a workshop with Barbara Callow. Barbara is a very talented local artist and she was great at showing us how oils work which were newish to me. I had not quite finished it and being pressed for time today I chose to make my unfinished pile a little bit smaller!

I am quite pleased with the way it turned out.... I have found in the last 30 days that taking a photo of my painting for posting makes me see it in a different light. Typically it will help me resolve something or point something out that I need to change. In this case I need to change one part of the reflection so it makes more sense.

This painting is of a bird sanctuary at Albert Head Lagoon in Metchosin, about 20 minutes from my house.

El pintar es interesante y siempre distinto. A veces todo va sobre ruedas y las cosas funcionan bien... Otras veces no tanto. Después de que el cuervo casi se pintó solo, decidí pintar unas flores que habia comprado esta mañana y simplemente NO funcionaron así que limpié el lienzo y decidí terminar una empezada que le faltaba poco. Limpiarla así y empezar de nuevo fue muy liberante! Había empezado esta en un curso con Bárbara Callow, una artista local de mucho talento. Ella fue muy buena en mostrarnos como funcionan los óleos que eran relativamente nuevos para mi. Le faltaba poco para terminarla y como tenía poco tiempo elegí achicar un poco mi pila de piezas sin terminar!

Estoy bastante contenta con como salió.... He descubierto en estos últimos 30 días que el sacar una foto de mi cuadro me hace ver las cosas de otra manera. Normalmente me ayuda a resolver algo que no funcionaba o me señala  algo que tengo que cambiar. En este caso quiero cambiar una parte de los reflejos para que tengan más sentido. 

Este cuadro es de un santuario de pájaros en Albert Head Lagoon en Metchosin, a unos 20 minutos de mi casa.

Day 28: Hope

Now talk about the ones that pour out of the brush!! I meant to start this one last night to be finished this morning, I got to a point that I had to stop as it was late and needed to end the day but when I stepped back I went: wow, it's finished! I love it when the creative process happens like that, it's like I don't really recall the process of painting, like I started and then all of a sudden it was finished...

This painting is dedicated to a good friend of mine and her family. Her dad passed away just about a year ago of ALS. Up until then I didn't know anything about ALS and what a terrible disease it is.  There is not much awareness about it. Like myself, most of us don't even know what is  all about. The cause for it is unknown, therefore there is no prevention or treatment for it. There are many people affected by  ALS  and in order to raise awareness a group of people (including my friend) from Victoria organized and took part in a Ride that took place last August in the Okanagam Valley. An around 550 km beautiful route  through incredible sites that took them about a week. It is called the Cycle of Hope and the crow became the symbol for it. The crow symbolizes the loved ones they lost to ALS. I hope that  more research leads to finding a cure for ALS and awareness is what is needed at this point! Hope at least one more person became aware today of it through my painting. My heart goes out to all those affected by it. Very proud of all who participated in the ALS Cycle of Hope!!

Hablando de los cuadros que se caen del pincel!!!!! La intención era anoche empezar este para terminarlo esta mañana. Llegó un punto que tuve que parar porque era tarde y necesitaba terminar el día pero cuando me retiré un poco de la pintura para sacarle una foto me dije: wow, esta terminada! Me encanta cuando el proceso creativo occurre de este modo; es como que no me acuerdo del proceso de pintar, es como empecé y de repente está terminada.... 

Este cuadro esta dedicado a una amiga y a su familia que hace más o menos un año perdieron al padre  a una enfermedad terrible llamada E.L.A. (Esclerosis Lateral Amiotrofica). Hasta entonces yo ni sabía de esta enfermedad y lo espantosa que es. Como yo, hay muchas personas que no saben nada tampoco. No hay conocimento general. La causa es desconocida y por lo tanto no hay tratamiento. Hay muchísimas personas afectadas por ELA y para que elevar el recogimiento público , un grupo de gente (incluyendo a mi amiga) de Victoria, organizaron y participaron en una bicicleteada este último Agosto en el Valle de Okanagan. Una ruta hermosa de aproximadamente 550km por lugares increíbles que les llevó una semana. Se llama "La Bicicleteada de la Esperanza" y el Cuervo se transformó en su símbolo que representa a los que amados que has sido perdidos a ELA. Espero que más investigación científica conduzca a la cura y para eso necesitamos más conciencia para recaudar fondos para la investigación. Espero que aunque sea una persona se entere hoy de la existencia de esta enfermedad por medio de mi cuadro y este blog. Mi corazón está con todos aquellos afectados por ELA y estoy muy orgullosa de los que participaron en la "Bicicleteada de la Esperanza para ELA"!!

There are some paintings that just spill out of the brush so effortlessly! This one was NOT one of them!! I struggled with this one, had very little time to fit painting in this morning before going to work. I have spent some more time on it is evening and there are elements that I like but more that I don't but it is as far as it will go for today. (Ran out of light as well to take a better photo). Next!! Need to start tomorrow's as I am busy the whole day and won't be able to get to it.

Hay algunas pictures que sales del pincel sin esfuerzo. Esta NO es una de esas. Luché mucho con esta pieza. Tenía muy poquito tiempo esta mañana antes de ir a trabajar, le dedique otro rato esta noche y algunos elementos que me gustan pero hay mucho más que no pero es hasta acá donde esta llega hoy.  (Me quedé sin luz para sacar una foto major). Que se venga la siguiente!!! Tengo que empezar la de mañana ya que estoy ocupado todo el dia y no boy a tener tiempo.

Day 25: Going Places

I have always been attracted to paths, trails, roads; I guess it is the sense of adventure they may have, the sense of discovery and the fact that you are going somewhere. It seems that I am on that theme right now as I am on number 3 and have 2 more to go this week. Some of these are probably studies for larger paintings later on. For the last week and a half I have known ahead of time what I was painting each day, I had the line up for the whole week ready and it has been really good to have that plan. Liz Wiltzen mentioned in her workshop that she always leaves her studio knowing what she is going to be painting the day after and I can see how that makes such a difference in how productive the day is. There is no waste of time in deciding whether I am painting a lemon, a peach ir a landscape for instance. I have the next 3 days placed for sure now and can hardly wait till tomorrow to get started with the next ones!

Siempre me han gustado los senderos, caminos, calles; supongo que es por el sentido de aventura que tienen, el sentido de descubrimiento y dirección. Me parece que estoy siguiendo esa temática esta semana ya que voy por la tercera  y tengo 2 más por pintar en los próximos 2 días. Algunos de estos cuadros chiquitos son estudios que tal vez se transformen en cuadros grandes  más adelantes. Esta última semana y media he sabido exactamente lo que iba a pintar ese día. Tenía la lista para la semana entera y ha sido realmente muy bueno tener ese plan. Liz Wiltzen menciono en su curso que ella siempre deja el taller sabiendo exactamente qué va a hacer el día siguiente y veo que eso hace un mundo de diferencia en lo productivo que es el día . No hay perdida de tiempo en decidir si ese día se pinta un limón o un durazno por ejemplo. Tengo los 3 próximos días planeados y apenas puedo esperar hasta mañana para empezarlos!

This is one is also from a place very close to home where I have also spent many hours. I have no idea how many times I have ran past this section of this park..... I am curious to see if anybody will recognize it which is why I am not saying where it is.
Today there was a lot of pull and push. I kept going back and forth with the shadows. I may still go back and change some things. Sorry about the shine on the photo, the light wasn't  good when I took it.

Este es tambien de un lunar cerci de mic a en el que he pasado muchos muchas horas. No tengo idea de cuantas veces he corrido por este lugar del este parque..... Tengo curiosidad por saber si alguien lo reconoce y por eso que no digo donde es.
Hoy mucho "tirar y empuje" (como decimos en inglés) fui y volví con las sombras, cambiando, más claro, más oscuro. Tal vez las cambie un poco más todavía. Disculpen por el brillo en la foto. No tenía buena luz cuando la saqué.

Day 23: Happy Birthday!

Today it is my son's Mateo 14th Birthday, so thinking of him today I painted this cupcake. I ended up procrastinating to get started (actually among other things I had to bake the real cake!) and only had a short time to do this fun piece. It is nowhere close to what I wanted it to look like but up it goes anyway! 

Incredible that we only have 7 days left of the challenge. There are a lot of artists still going strong! You can take a look at what other artists are creating on Leslie's Blog. They say it takes 21 days to form a new habit. Going into the studio everyday whether I feel like it or not has been great so far and something that I plan to continue after the challenge is over.  I am having fun with it and I feel I am learning a lot!

Hoy es el cumpleaños  de mi hijo Mateo, 14 años, y pensando en el pinté esta tortita. Procrastiné bastante esta mañanas al final (en realidad entre otras cosas tuve que hacer la torta de verdad!) y sólo tuve un rato para terminar esta pieza divertida. No está ni cerca de lo tenía en mente pero la subo lo mismo!

Es increíble que faltan solamente 7 días para terminar el desafío. Hay muchos artistas que todavía  siguen trabajando duro! Pueden ver sus trabajos en el blog de Leslie. Dicen que uno tarda 21 días en formar un hábito nuevo y hasta hora ir al taller todos los días, con ganas o sin ganas, ha sido muy bueno y un hábito que voy a continuar. Lo estoy disfrutando y estoy aprendiendo mucho!

Day 22: Spring on the Goose

Yesterday I also painted a shot from one of those marathon training runs on the Galloping Goose (a running/walking/cycling trail that goes from Victoria Downtown to  Sooke)  It is about 60k long and we spent countless hours running on it. The canopies of the trees form like an arch above and it looks a lot like a tunnel. Today is actually the first day of Fall but having being born in Argentina, historically today is the first day of Spring!!!  So my post is very appropriate!

Ayer también pinté una toma de esas corridas de entrenamiento para la maratón en el Galloping Goose. (Un sendero de 60 km para caminar, correr o andar en bicicleta que va desde Victoria hasta Sooke). Pasamos un número incontable de horas corriendo en ese sendero. Las cúpulas de los árboles arman un arco y se ve como un túnel  en algunas partes. Hoy es el primer día de otoño acá peor habiendo nacido en Argentina, hoy historicamente para mi es el primer día de primavera! Asi que mi cuadro de hoy es muy apropiado!!!

Day 21: Fun at 18

I mentioned a couple of days ago how a friend had "called" for painting number 17.... Just the other day I was telling another friend about this so she looks at me and says: 21.... So there it goes .... More pressure.... After thinking hard about what to paint for this one I knew it had to be related to how I came to know this friend much better last year. We trained for 5 months for the BMO Vancouver Marathon (for the non-runners, a marathon is 42.2 km or 26.1 miles) We spent MANY hours together, running, laughing, crying, pushing and pulling each other. I LOVED our training and we did have a lot of fun during those months despite being one of he hardest things I have done.  Inevitably at the beginning of every long run on the weekends (which got progressively longer of course to 36k to be our longest one) we would go through the "sillies" at a certain point, around 8 to 10 k into the run and we would just laugh till we had tears running down our cheeks. We would follow that by periods of utter silence each going deep within ourselves, we would check on each other every now and then: "you ok?-yep, you?- Good" and we would just keep going. We ran the marathon in May 2012 (my first and quite possibly my last one) and it was one of the best days of my life. During the marathon at about 17 or 18 km into the race, I pulled out the phone to take a picture of us and by accident while putting it away I snapped this shot. When I downloaded it I almost erased it but stopped myself when I realized it was Lori's shadow (incluidos her pony tail) on the pavement. Today I painted that one as I liked the almost abstract quality to it and it was just fun! I also painted another one which I will post tomorrow.

Thank you Lori for sharing a great accomplishment in my life. (Actually for making me do it!)

Hace un par de días  les conté como un amigo me pidió el número 17.  La semana pasada le conté a otra amiga de so y ella me Mora y dice: 21.... Así qué ahí vamos de nuevo, presión!!.... Después de pensar mucho en qué iba a pintar decidí que tenía que estar relacionado con cómo conocí mucho más a esta amiga el año pasado. Entrenamos durante 5 meses para correr la Maratón de Vancouver (para mis amigos que no corren, la maratón tiene 42.2km!). Pasamos MUCHAS horas juntas, corriendo, riéndonos, llorando, empujando nos y arrastrandonos la una a la otra. ME ENCANTO nuestro entrenamiento y nos divertimos muchísimo durante esos meses  (a pesar de haber sido una de la cosas más difíciles que he echo en mi vida). Inevitablemente, en todas las corridas largas en cada fin de semana (que se hacían cada vez más largó hasta llegar a 36km la más larga) pasábamos por la etapa de la "tontera", alrededor de los 8 o 10 km nos ha garreaban ataques de risa hasta que nos caían las lágrimas. Seguido a eso siempre teníamos u. Periodo de silencio total en el que cada una entraba dentro de sí misma y de vez en cuando nos preguntábamos: "estas bien?- si, vos? - también" y seguíamos no más. Corrimos la maratón en Mayo de 2012 (mi primera y casi seguro mi única) y fue uno de los mejores días de mi vida. Durante la maratón, a los 17 o 18 km saqué el teléfono para sacarnos una foto y por Accidente al guardar el teléfono saqué esta foto. Cuando baje las fotos, casi la borré pero me di cuenta que era la sombra de Lori sobre la calle y su colita de caballo mientras corriamos.  Hoy pinté esto porque me gustó la calidad abstracta que tenía la foto. También pinté otra que voy a poner en el blog  de mañana.

Gracias Lori por compartir conmigo un gran logro en mi vida (bueno, en realidad gracias por hacerme hacerlo!)
