One of the ones from the challenge I haven't posted yet.... This is one of the landscapes I did a couple of weeks ago from images taken by a friend of mine who travels a fair bit for work and is often on the ferry; we get to see views like this when doing the crossing between the mainland and Vancouver Island. It's really amazing to see the storms approaching and just pass by. It was lots and lots of fun to do this sky!

Este es uno de los del desafío qu eno había mostrado.... Este fue uno de los paisajes que hice hace un par de semanas de fotos sacadas por una amiga mías que viaja bastante por trabajo y está a menudo en le ferry; muchas veces vemos escenas como estas cuando hacemos el cruce entre el continente y la isla de Vancouver. es increíble ver las tormentas cuando se acercan y pasan de largo. La pasé bárbaro pintando este cielo!

A couple of summers ago we spent 5 weeks in Italy, it was of course absolutely wonderful. We rented a car and covered a lot of ground at a nice pace, sometimes we would only travel a couple of hundred kilometres between the places where we spent the night. We stopped in tiny villages to have lunch and walk around. LOVED Italy, we would go back in a second! Eventhough we saw so much, there is still so much more to see.... Going there on a painting trip is on my wish list....
This image was taken in the heart of Tuscany where these patches of sunflowers are just the thing to make you smile instantly. I painted this one back in December as well,   I particularly liked how the distant hills and  tree shapes in the back came together.
This painting along with 27 other ones is on display at the Burning Desire Show up at the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre in Duncan until  March 2. Contact me if you are planning to go up, I can give you a detailed schedule of when the theatre is open.

Hace un par de año pasamos 5 semanas en Italia, fue absolutamente maravilloso. Alquilamos un auto y recorrimos mucho territorio pero a un buen ritmo, muchos días sólo viajabamos 100 or 200 km entre los lugares donde pasamos la noche, paramos en pueblitos hermosos donde almorzamos y caminamos. Nos ENCANTO Italia, volveríamos en un segundo! A pesar de haber conocido mucho, nos queda todavía tanto por ver.... Ir a pintar a Italia está en mi lista de deseos.....
Esta imágen fue tomada en el corazón de la Toscana, donde estos campos de girasoles son perfectos para hacerte sonreir en el acto. Pinté este cuadro en Diciembre también y me gustó en particular como quedaron las montañas y árboles distantes.
Este cuadro, junto con otros 27 está en exhibición en el muestra "Deseo Ardiente" en el Centro de Teatro en  Duncan hasta el 2 de Marzo.

Day 24 of 30: Eternal and what not to do

This painting today is an experiment (probably not to be repeated by me). I painted this a long time ago in acrylics, I  had several goes at different points in time throughout the last few years. Each  time I had separate parts of the painting working but I was never really satisfied with it so I always pu tt aside.   Recently, I said, Oh I know.... I'll have a go at it with oils as I am really enjoying them more and I feel I could represent what I want to say with them. Maybe I can finish it like that.....  Well.... I've had a couple of trys and today is the last one probably. I am not pleased with it but I will give it a few days and see how I feel then. My lesson learnt is: Sometimes, it's better to just put them on the burn pile and start from scratch!!!

Este cuadro de hoy es un experimento (que probablemente no vuelva a repetir). Lo empecé hace varios años en acrílico, tuve varias sesiones en distintas ocasiones para ver si lo podía terminar. Cada vez tenía distintas partes del cuadro que funcionaban o no pero nunca estuve totalmente satisfecha. Hace unas semanas dije: Ah Ya sé, le voy a poner óleos arriba, ya que los estoy disfrutando mucho y creo que voy a poder expresar mejor lo que quiero decir, de esa manera tal vez lo temino.... Volví a intentar entonces un par de veces  y hoy probablemente sea la última vez..... No me gusta como ha quedado pero le voy a dar unos días y ver qué me parece entonces. He aprendido una lección: Muchas veces es mejor mandar algunos cuadro a la pila para quemar y empezar de nuevo!!

Day 14 of 30: Pacific Sunset

Like I said yesterday, I have been wanting to paint skies for a while.  Yesterday I finished the day wanting to do the same one I did yesterday, or along the same lines, but larger so I did today! The thing with sunsets for me is that I see them out there in nature and they look absolutely amazing, then when I paint them, even though those are the colours and values you see in the sky, they look kind of cheesy.... Regardless, I had a blast today, blending in subtleties that you can't really see in the photo. The  islands on the front "emerged" and it was a total "Bob Ross Moment" going: "And here we are going to add a happy little island..... "  Hope you enjoy it, it made me smile, as a matter of fact I am smiling as I type :)

Off to swim now before dinner and a meeting tonight.... packed days force me to be organized!!

Como les dije ayer, hace rato que quiero pintar cielos. Ayer terminé el día queriendo pintar el mismo de ayer, o  parecido, pero más grande así que lo hice hoy! La cosa con estos atardecedres es que cuando uno los ve en la vida real tienen estos colores y tonos espectaculares que cuando los pinto parecen exagerados. A pesar de eso, disfruté mucho de este cuadro hoy,  mezclando en el lienzo las distintas tonalidades que no se pueden apreciar en la foto. Las islas que ven "aparecieron"  y fue un "momento Bob Ross" cuando dije "Y acá vamos a agregar una islita feliz.... " me hizo sonreir, es más, estoy sonriendo mientras escribo esto..... (Boss Ross era un pintor que tenía un progarma de tv donde enseñaba a pintar).

Me voy a nadar, después cena y una reunión esta noche.... días muy ocupados como hoy me hacen me fuerzan a ser organizada!!

#34: Entrance Island

I finished this one yesterday. I had started it last year when a group of us went on a painting trip to Gabriola Island. Worked on it a couple of times since then but never really finishing it. I am so glad it is now!! On that trip we spent 3 days there just painting and enjoying lots of art talk and company. Entrance Island is a name I had heard for years through the VHF on the boat. It is one of the marine stations that relays weather informacion. It  was also the firts sighting I had of land on a particularly bouncy and foggy crossing of the straight a few years ago coming back from Desolation Sound. (I am a fair weather sailor!) So it was a place that I enjoyed painting when I actually saw it more up close.

We need to organize another one of those plein air trips soon!!

Terminé esta ayer. La había empezado el año pasado cuando fui con un grupo de gente a la Isla Gabriola a pintar. Otro par de veces volví a agarrala pero no había logrado terminarla y estoy contenta de que ahora sí esté!! En ese viaje, durante 3 días, pintamos, hablamos de arte y disfrutamos mucho. La Isla de Entrada es un nombre que durante años había escuchado por la radio VHF en el velero ya que hay una estación metereologica que da anuncios del tiempo. También fue la primera vista de tierra que tuve después de una cruzada particularmente neblinosa y de mar picado hace unos años cuando volvíamos de un viaje. (Yo soy Marinera de buen tiempo, como se dice en inglés!)  Así que fue un lugar que disfrute mucho pintar desde tan cerca esta vez. 

Tenemos que organizar pronto otro viaje como este para  pintar!!
