So blessed to live in a place where these are the views you can see any time! Coming from a very Mediterranean city (close to a thousand km East or West to the ocean!), I love living by the sea! I did this plein air painting last May while at the Sidney Boat Show. We were invited by Art Sea to paint during this event. It was lovely day with inspiring views. You can see this painting at Genoa Bay Gallery, I'm excited to share you can see some of my coastal art in this great gallery! Stop by, see the art, walk the quaint docks and have lunch or dinner at the restaurant, the food is delicious!

Tengo tanta suerte de vivir en un lugar donde tenemos vistas como estas todo el tiempo! Me encanta vivir cerca del mar y lo aprecio especialmente ya que vengo de una ciudad muy mediterránea, cerca de 1000 km hacia el este o éste para llegar al océano! Hice este cuadro este mayo pasado durante la Exhibición de Barcos de Sidney. Fuimos invitados por Art Sea para pintar durante este evento. Fue un día hermoso con vistas inspiradras. Pueden ver este cuadro en la Galería Genoa Bay, donde recientemente empecé a mostrar mis cuadros! Pasen a ver arte, caminen por los muelles y almuercen o cenen en el restaurant, la comida es estupenda!

Last Early June, I went painting in the interior of our province as I have done the last couple of years. This particular afternoon had busy skies with a storm that kept skirting around but didn't get us! It only started sprinkling a bit as we were packing up!

I'm showing you a work in progress as today I didn't manage to paint because I had volunteered to help hang the Spring Exhibition for the Federation of Canadian Artists - Victoria Chapter. I am pleased to announce that I do have a piece accepted into the show! See the poster below for more information: the show runs until March 11 and we are having an opening reception this Thursday March 1, 6 to 8pm. I am planning to attend and it would lovely to say hi and chat!
I started the painting above a few days ago and I am very pleased with how it's looking so far. I have a bit to go but lots of things will stay the same, stay tuned to see the final result!

Hoy les muestro un cuadro sin terminar ya que no tuve tiempo para pintar porque ayudé con la instalación de la Exhibición de Primavera de la Federación de Artistas Canadienses en Victoria. Estoy muy contenta de anunciar que tengo un cuadro incluído en la muestra! :)  Tienen información en el poster que está arriba: la muestra corre hasta el 11 de Marzo y vamos a tener la recepción  de apertura el jueves a la noche de 6-8 pm. Tengo planeado ir y sería bárbaro  si vienen un rato y charlamos!
Comencé este cuadro hace varios días y estoy muy contenta de como va. Le falta un poco pero mucho de lo que ven va a quedar como está, les cuento de nuevo una vez que lo termine!

There are endless paths and trails to explore all over the place here on the West Coast. Many times, when you get to the end of the path, you get to enjoy the most beautiful views on the ocean or vistas from mountain tops. I haven't been doing those walks as much lately and I miss them.  I have to make sure I schedule them in in the near future  and enjoy Spring!

Acá en esta zona de la Costa Oeste, hay una gran cantidad de caminitos y senderos para explorar. Muchas veces, al llegar al final de esos senderos, se pueden disfrutar paisajes de mar hermosos.  Hace mucho que no hago estas caminatas y las extraño muho. Tengo que asegurarme de hacer tiempo para hacerlas pronto y disfrutar de la primavera!

When I first came to Canada, one day my husband took me to the beach....  when we got there, all I could see were rocks, logs and very few waves.... I went..... really? Is this the beach??? Where's the sand?? and the big waves?? .... That is what I had seen so far in Argentina, Chile and Brazil.... Well, I have come to love the beaches here with the huge piles of logs brought to shore by storms and tides. There are of course some that do have the big waves and some with sandy patches and long spits..... but most are littered with rocks and white-washed logs. I also remember from that first day the noise the waves make on a pebble beach....  quite different!

Cuando vine a Canada, un día mi esposo me llevó a la playa.... cuando llegamos, lo único que había era troncos, piedras y nada de olas.... y yo dije.... Es esta la playa? Donde está la arena? y las olas?? Era a eso que yo estaba acostumbrada en playas de Argentina, Chile y Brasil..... Pero después de un timepo, encantan las playas de acá con las pilas de troncos traídos por tormentas y mareas. Hay por supuesto algunas que tienen  olas grandes y otras con largas playas de arena, pero la mayoría estan llenas de troncos y piedritas.  También me acuerdo de ese primer día el ruido que hacen las olas cuando rompen sobre las piedras..... muy diferente!!

There are so many different rock formations along the BC coast, you can certainly see the effects of time, some rocks are carved and polished smooth from water and wind erosion, some others are very jagged, so many different colours as well. Very interesting!!

Hay tantas formaciones de rocas diferentes a lo gardo de la costa de British Columbia, ciertamente se puede ver el efecto del tiempo, algunas rocas estas esculpidas, otras son lisas por la erosión del viento y el agua, otras están como afiladas y  de muchos colores diferentes. Muy interesantes!!

When you go painting plein air with other people you have to adapt yourself to what the majority of the group is doing, that goes for anything & everything actually, doesn't it?..... I had already finished my painting and had some time left before the others finished theirs but I didn't have so much time to start a bigger one. So I decided to play with the shapes and colours of  the sage bushes right in front of me and use the paint that was actually on the palette leftover from the previous painting. It was ok.....but nothing to write home about. Last week  as I was finishing other work, I took another go at it  and I am quite happy with it now.

Cuando uno va a pintar afuera con otra gente hay que adaptarse a lo que la mayoría del grupo está haciendo, esto, la verdad, se aplica a todo no?… Yo ya había terminado mi cuadro y tenía un poco de tiempo antes de que los otros terminaran  sus cuadros pero no tenía tanto tiempo como para empezar y desarrollar un cuadro mas grande o mas complicado. Por eso  decidí jugar con los colores y formas  de los arbustos de salvia que tenía al frente mío y simplemente usar un poco de la pintura que me había quedado en la paleta del cuadro anterior. Estaba más o menos bien… pero nada especial. Esta semana pasada mientras terminaba otros trabajos, le agregué algunas cosas, cambié otras, saqué elementos y ahora estoy mas contenta con cómo ha quedado.

One evening while at Big Bar Lake this past May a few of us painters decided to set up and do a painting after dinner before the light disappeared. It was all great at the beginning, had the painting pretty much blocked in when the mosquitoes decided to come out and oh my Gosh, they were out with a vengeance!!  I hadn't seen mosquitoes like that in a long time!! It became a battle to try and put marks on the canvas while swatting the mosquitoes away! I called this karate style painting because it looked like we were doing karate moves with our arms while trying to paint at the same time!! Needless to say, the following evening, I didn't even try to set up!  :)

Un atardecer  cuando estábamos en  el Lago Big Bar este Mayo pasado, unos cuantos pintores decidimos hacer un cuadro después de cenar antes de que la luz despareciera. Todo estuvo bárbaro al comienzo, tenía el bloqueo inicial listo cuando aparecieron los mosquitos y oh con qué ganas aparecieron!! Hacía mucho que no veía tantos mosquitos.  Se convirtió en una batalla para espantar a los mosquitos y poner pintura en el lienzo, por eso le puse Cuadro Estilo Karate, ya que parecía que estábamos haciendo movimientos de karate con los brazo!! Demás está decir que al atardecer siguiente ni siquiera traté!! :)

Still sharing Ashcroft paintings..... For the weekend of the paint-out, which has been happenning for the last few years at the end of May, it is truly wonderful to see how the community opens their doors for us painters to invade their hometown and create. They  help with set up, everybody is friendly and lots come out to the show on the last day.   Sundance Ranch is one of the many ranches in the area just outside the city and it is where we painted on Sunday morning.  We are so thankful they allowed us painters to go onto their property, we had a great time!

Todavía les sigo mostrando cuadros de Ashcroft.... Para el fin de semana de la pintada que se organiza el último fin de semana en Mayo de cada año es realmente maravilloso ver cómo la comunidad abre las puertas a los pintores que invaden su pueblo para crear. Ayudan con la organización, todos muestran mucha amabilidad y muchos vienen a la muestra del último día. La Estancia Sundance está apenas en las afueras de la ciudad y es donde pintamos el domingo a la mañana. Estamos tan agradecidas de que los dueños nos hayan permitido pintar en su propiedad, la pasamos tan bien!

I have so much work to share with you all and I will start just one at a time! This one is from the Ashcroft trip back in May and it was the first painting of the trip.  On the way there, we  stopped for a night at Sun Peaks, BC and following the GSP (incorrect) directions we ended up on the wrong road! No clue how it was planning to get us there. Anyway, we liked what we saw and came back the following day to paint, we set up and painted fearing the storm the storm would hit but we were lucky and it passed!

Tengo tantos cuadros para mostrarles, voy a hacerlo uno por uno......  Este es del viaje a Ashcroft  este pasado Mayo y fue el primer cuadro del viaje. Habíamos decidido pasar un par de noches en Sun Peaks, BC antes de ir a Ashcroft y siguiendo las direcciones (incorrectas) del GPS terminamos en el lugar equivocado! Ni idea tengo de dónde quería llevarnos el GPS. De todas formas nos gustó lo que vimos  y volvimos al día siguiente a pintar en este lugar. Empezamos a pintar con miedo de que se largara la tormenta pero por suerte pasó!

A few years ago I went on my first plein air painting trip to Gabriola Island with a group of artists. I clearly had a  great time as I haven't stopped and have continued planning and going to different places. I mean, I love traveling, I love painting so why not combine them both?  We had such a good time, lots of laughs and chats..... I have the best memories from this trip including a few photos of  one of the sunsets there which I used for this painting. 
I had left these posts ready before leaving Victoria and this is the last painting that I had ready before starting to show you the ones I am doing right now in Yellowknife, I am having a great time! It's cloudy tonight so we have to wait to see the Northern Lights but I am sure we will have a chance.

Hace unos años fui a mi primer viaje de pintura a la Isla Gabriola con un grupo de artistas. Parece que me gustó mucho ya que no paré y he seguido yendo a distintos lugares..... Me encanta viajar, me encanta pintar, por qué no combinar las dos cosas??? La pasamos tan bien en ese viaje, muchas risas y charlas...  Tengo los mejores recuerdos de este viaje incluyendo algunas fotos de uno de los atardeceres que usé como referencia para este cuadro.
Había dejado todos estos blogs listos antes de salir de Victoria y este es el último cuadro antes de empezar con los que estoy haciendo en Yellowknife, la estoy pasando muy muy bien! Esta noche está nublado así que tenemos que esperar para ver la Aurora Borealis, estoy segura que no va a faltar oportunidad!

One day last week we went on the sailboat for the afternoon with 2 friends we have known for a long time. We love sharing our boat and show people our favourite spots. Before dinner while the men went fishing for a while, my friend Karalyn and myself went for a paddle on the kayaks and this was one of the views. It's absolutely fascinating to see the different rock formations, so different from area to area!

Just before we saw this lonely tree at the point we saw a raccoon looking at us  from a log ont he beach, we took some photos and then kept on paddling for a little bit. We thought the racoon was looking for dinner and as soon as we weren't looking he jumped int he water and started swimming! He totally swam from island to another..... I didn't know they could swim so well!

Un día de la semana pasada fuimos en el velero con un par de amigos que hace mucho no veíamos! Nos encanta compartir nuestro velero y nuestros lugares favoritos. Antes de cenar, mientras los hombres fueron a pescar un rato, mi amiga Karalyn y yo fuimos ne los kayaks alrededor de varias islas pequeñas que estaban cerca. y esta era una de las vistas. Es totalmente fascinante observar las distintas formaciones en las rocas, son tan diferentes de una zona a la otra!

Justo antes de  ver este solitario árbol vimos este mapache mirándonos desde un tronco en la playa, le sacamos unas fotos y seguimos. Pensábamos que estaba buscando la cena pero apenas nos dimos vuelta se tiró al agua y empezó a nadar a la isla del frente! Yo no sabía que podían nadar tan bien!

This image is inspired by the last trip up to Desolation Sound a few weeks ago. As everything was covered by a blanket of smoke from the wild fires, the skies were very very grey and flat. I actually took the liberty of adding a bit of texture to the sky as in reality it was just one tone with nothing...... As I painted this I was thinking how interesting it is to think how long some of those trees have been around...... they withstand heat, cold, wind storms and winters and somehow they are still there.....
I started painting for the challenge a few days before  Sep 1 so I would be able to have work done for my traveling days. Last night we left Victoria on our way to our Arctic adventure. As this is published, I am in Yellowknife, painting my life away.

Esta imagen fue inspirada por el último viaje a Desolation Sound hace una semanas. Como todo estaba cubierto por una gran capa de humo producido por los incendios forestales, los cielos estaban muy muy grises. En realidad me tomé la libertad de agregar un poco de textura en el cielo para agregar interés. Mientras pintaba esto, pensaba que es interesante pensar cuanto tiempo que hace que algunos de esos árboles están ahí… Aguantando calor,frío, tormentas de viento, inviernos y sequías y de alguna forma todavía sobreviven… Comencé a pintar para el desafío unas días antes del 1 de septiembre para poder tener trabajo listo para los días de viaje. Anoche salimos de Victoria camino a nuestra aventura en el Artico. Cuando uds. lean esto voy a estar en Yellowknife pintando a loco!

Well.... I imagine that by now you should know the drill..... this one came from Day 6, just a different cropping and addition of the left land mass..... Really enjoying these deep exploration of skies, landscapes and just shapes in general. Went back and forth with the water, making it darker and lighter at times, will have to wait for re-evaluation at the end of the 30 days.

I am  getting ready and organized to leave on another painting adventure this coming Saturday. I mentioned it briefly  a few posts ago: I am going to the Arctic just to paint. How awesome is that?? I am going with my good fiend Deborah Czernecky and we will meet 10 painters from Ontario up at the lodge. We will spend a few days in Yellowknife before heading up to Arctic Haven in Nunavut. If you are familiar with Yellowknife, are there any spots/things to do that are a must??? I appreciate any suggestions! I  will be painting lots and I am hoping to still post daily but I am not sure I'll be able to. Gotta go, lots to do!!!! Thanks for visiting :)

Me imagino que a esta altura ya saben como estoy haciendo todo… Este cuadro surgió del del día 6, es simplemente un recorte del anterior y le agregué el pedazo de tierra en la izquierda… Realmente estoy disfrutando mucho de estas grandes exploraciones de cielos y paisajes. Di varias vueltas con el agua en este cuadro, oscureciéndola y aclarándola, voy a tener que esperar para re-evaluar al final de los 30 días ya que no me pude decidir y se me acabó el tiempo. :)

Me estoy preparando y organizando para irme este sábado a disfrutar de otra gran aventura. Lo mencioné de pasada hace unos cuantos días, esta vez me voy al medio de la nada en el ártico a pintar. Qué les parece??? Me voy con mi amiga Deborah Czernecky y nos juntamos allá con  otros 10 artistas de Ontario. Vamos a pasar un par de días en Yellowknife antes de ir a Arctiv Haven en Nanuvut. Si ustedes conocen Yellowknife, tienen alguna sugerencia de lugares o cosas que tenemos que ver/hacer si o si? Apreciaría cualquier idea. Voy a pintar mucho y espero poder publicarlos a diario pero no estoy segura si lo voy a poder hacer. Me tengo que ir, tengo muchas cosas que hacer! Gracias por visitarme!

This one is again one based on a previous painting of mine I did this past year. I am following these steps: first I find the cropping I like, then I do it on a small 6x8 panel and afterwards I move it over to a medium size canvas before going really big, I may need until after the 30 day challenge for that as I want to have more time for each painting.

El de hoy es un recorte de un cuadro anterior que hice el año pasado. Estoy siguiendo el siguiente proceso: Primero encuentro la composición que me gusta,  segundo, la hago en formato pequeño, después la paso a un lienzo mediano y  quiero finalmente llevarlo a un lienzo mucho mas grande pero me parece que voy a tener  que esperar hasta después del desafío para esta etapa porque quiero tener más tiempo  para cada cuadro. Espero que les guste!

Last year on our return from Desolation Sound I painted this view of the mainland mountains. At the time I had painted layers of  receding clouds and they never really worked for me, I was never happy with the painting. Then one day this year, I decided to change it completely and I am now MUCH happier with the way this painting feels!  Unfortunately, I can't find the photo before the makeover....

El año pasado cuando volvíamos de Desolation Sound hice este cuadro de la vista que había desde el velero hacia las montañas.  Había pintado las nubes como estaban ese día y eran capas de nubes que se alejaban en la distancia. Nunca me gustó como había quedado por eso un día este año decidí hacer algunos cambios, el cielo está completamente distinto y estoy ahora MUCHO mas contenta con cómo quedó! Desafortunadamente no tengo fotos de la versión anterior....

This is one of the plein air paintings I did a few weeks ago in Ashcroft. Every year they ask us to paint in the town not only the landscape around town and I had already left last year wanting to paint these back alleys that create the most wonderful shapes when the shadows change as the sun moves. The trick this year was to find some shade to stand under and paint as it was very hot. I found some and did 2 painting from the same spot, one in each direction. I am very pleased with the way this one turned out.

This painting is  one of the 2 pieces I have in the Alfrescoes 2017 Exhibition  showing at Coast Collective until June 25. There is a reception where you can meet lots of the talented artists in the group this Saturday June 17, 1-3 pm. Unfortunately I can't attend as I have a wedding and my son's graduation dinner gala. Everything happens on the same day and Wow, my son's graduating!! Exciting times!

Este es uno de los cuadros que hice al aire libre en Ashcroft hace unas semanas. Todos los años nos piden que pintemos en el centro del pueblo, no solo en las afueras y ya el año pasado me había quedado con las ganas de pintar estos callejones que tienen las sombras mas interesantes a medida que el sol se mueve. Busqué un poco de sombra  para pararme y pintar e hice 2 cuadros desde el mismo lugar, uno en cada dirección. Estoy muy contenta con cómo quedó este. |

Este es uno de los dos cuadros que tengo en la Exhibición de los Alfrescoes de 2017 en Coast Collective hasta el 25 de Junio. Va a haber una recepción donde ud puede conocer y  charlar con algunos de estos artistas talentosos este sábado 17 de 1 a 3. Desafortunadamente no puedo ir porque tengo un casamiento y la cena de egresados de mi hijo, todo el mismo día. Wow! mi hijo se gradúa! que bueno!!

Here's "Downtown Garden" which was started last year in Ashcroft, BC for the Plein Air Paint out I participated in May. It's happening again next weekend and I am heading back there this week with my good friends and fellow painters Deborah Czernecky, Sharlene Stushnov Lee and Ken Faulks among many others, it was about 50 of us invading the town and painting all over. I know there are more people going from the island but don't really know who at this point. We had so much fun last year, it was wonderful for me to explore areas of this province I had not been to before. We are planning to be gone for about a week: first to Sunpeaks, next Ashcroft for the Paint out and afterwards we are going back to Big Bar Lake before coming back home.
The first part of the paint out is always reserved for the downtown part of Ashcroft and last year I was enchanted with the garden in this corner house! I hadn't been able to finish it that day but got to put some much needed extra touches in time for the studio tour.
I am so excited about this road trip, it should be oodles of fun .... this is just a wild guess from how much fun we had last year! I'll try and post some photos from the road but don't know what kind of wifi I'll have.

Aquí tienen "Jardín del Centro" que comencé el año pasado en Ashcroft, BC en la pintada en la que participe en mayo. Este evetno oceurre de nuevo este fin de semana que viene y vuelvo con mis amigos pintores Deborah Czernecky, Sharlene Stushnov Lee y Ken Faulks , entre varios otros, el año pasado fuimos  más o menos 50 pintores que invadimos el pueblo y pintábamos por todos lados. Sé que hay varias otras personas de la isla que van pero no sé en este momento quienes. El año pasado nos divertimos tanto, fue maravilloso para mí poder explorar zonas nuevas de la provincia que no había visitado antes. El plan es estar de viaje durante una semana más o menos: primero a Sun Peaks, después a Ashcroft para la pintada y después nos vamos al lago Big Bar mas al Norte antes de volver a casa.

En la primer parte de la pintada siempre pintamos en la zona central de Ashcroft. El año pasado me encantó este jardín en una casa de  esquina. No había  podido terminarlo ese día pero logré al final ponerle unos cuantos toques muy necesarios a tiempo para el tour de talleres la semana pasada. Estoy bastante contenta con cómo quedó. Estoy muy entusiasmada con este viaje, nos vamos a divertir muchísimo y esto lo digo debido a cuánto nos divertimos el año pasado.  Voy a tratar de poner fotos y contarles cómo va todo pero no sé qué tipo de tiempo ni de Wi-Fi vamos a tener.

This study was the second of the day while sailing down the Strait of Georgia last July on our way back to Victoria from Desolation Sound.  It doesn't matter how many times I am in those areas, there's always a different way to paint them and so much to explore. I am sure I'll paint it again next summer when we are up there on our holidays.   I am actually pretty pleased with how this one turned out, it's the companion piece to the one I published a couple of days ago....

Este estudio fue el segundo del día que hice cuando navegamos en el Estrecho de Georgia este julio pasado cuando volvíamos a Victoria desde Desolation Sound. No importa cuantas veces esté en esas zonas, siempre encuentro una forma diferente de pintarlos, hay tanto para explorar. Estoy muy contenta con cómo me salió, es el cuadro compañero al que publique antes de ayer.
