This is one of my favourite paintings from the Hawaii series. The ocean was quite choppy that day and I was playing with the colours more than anything when at the very end a sailboat showed up and I just had to put it in! Hope you like it!

Este es uno de los cuadros que mas me gusta de la serie de Hawaii. El ar estaba bastanate picado ese día, yo estaba mas que nada jugando con los colores cuando a último momento un velero apareció en escena y lo tuve que incluir! Espero que les guste!

UNFINISHED - SIN TERMINAR

As I mentioned in my last post, I have been in Lake Tahoe for a few days now and I have used some of that time for painting outdoors,  have been exploring and I love the scenery!.... This painting was done en plein air by the Truckee River just a few minutes from where I am staying. I drove along this river several times and the banks with yellowy greeny grasses called me right away so that was my first choice for this trip. Got stung by a wasp half way and it is not fun at all.... but I guess it's one of the perils of plein air painting, that was  a first for me while painting. Apparently wasps are so bad this year in this area that some restaurants don't even serve food outdoors!
Still need to take it back to the studio and work on it a bit more, there are several unresolved areas, I ran out of time (or patience, or both) :)

Como les conté en mi último post, hace varios días que estoy en el Lago Tahoe y he aprovechado para pintar y explorar y la verdad es que me encanta este paisaje… Éste cuadro lo hice al aire libre en las orillas del Río Truckee que está a unos minutos de donde estoy parando. Pasé manejando al lado de este río varias veces y esas  orillas llenas de pastos verdes y amarillos me llamaron la atención en el acto así que esa fue mi primera elección para este viaje. Me picó una avispa a mitad del cuadro y no fue muy divertido....  Pero supongo que es uno de los peligros de la pintura al aire libre, esa fue la primera vez para mí mientras pinto. Parece que las avispas están tan malas este año en esta zona que algunos restaurantes ni siquiera sirven comida afuera. Éste cuando está sin terminar, todavía necesito llevarlo al taller y ponerle un poco más de tiempo, hay varias áreas que no están resueltas,  se me acabó el tiempo (o la paciencia o los dos) :)

I said I was behind in posting and I was not kidding.  I did this one about a month ago and I never posted it becasue I wanted to change a couple of things to it. I went about it a bit differently than usual without so much drawing and planning as I was wanting to put more than anything my impressions of the bouquet on the canvas. I am not sure I was successful in that, but I am pleased with the result.... The title comes from thoughts that were going through my mind while painting and after finishing..... Many artists, including myself, usually have a monkey on our shoulder, nattering things in our ear, things that are typically not good.... that painting is not good, what are you thinking? You are not good, they are better, etc, etc, you get the picture....  When I finished painting I went, you know what?? You ARE more than enough! I was actually discussing this with a fellow artists just the other day. We have to do daily work on this, I do at least,  and the best way to shut the monkey for me is to DO, to be in action. When I don't DO, the monkey gets louder. While I am busy doing, the monkey has no space to talk too much, or if he does, I can't hear him! :) We just have to remember to be kind to ourselves.

Les dije que estaba atrazada con mostrarles cuadros y no era en broma. Pinté esto hace como un mes pero quería cambiarle un par de cosas. Ataqué este lienzo de forma diferente a como lo hago siempre, menos planeado, con menos dibujo inicial,  ya que quería poner más que nada mi impresión del ramo de flores sobre el lienzo. No estoy segura si tuve éxito en hacer eso o no pero estoy bastante contenta con el resultado.... El título viene de pensamientos que pasaban por mi cabeza mientras pintaba y después de haber terminado.... Muchos artistas, yo incluída, tenemos un monito sobre el hombro  que nos dice cosas en el oído, normalmente cosas no muy buenas... ese cuadro no es bueno, de dónde sacaste esa idea? vos no sos muy buena, los otros son mejores, etc, etc, se dan idea de los que les digo.... Cuando terminé el cuadro, me dije: "Sabés qué?? SI que sos más que suficiente! Justamente estaba charlando sobre esto con otra artista hace unos días. Tenemos que trabajar en esto a diario, yo por lo menos, y la mejor forma de que el mono se calle es HACER, entrar en acción. Mientras estoy ocupada  haciendo, el mono no tiene espacio para decir mucho, o al hacer no lo puedo escuchar! :) 

tenemos que acordarnos de ser amables con nosotros mismos.

A couple of summers ago we spent 5 weeks in Italy, it was of course absolutely wonderful. We rented a car and covered a lot of ground at a nice pace, sometimes we would only travel a couple of hundred kilometres between the places where we spent the night. We stopped in tiny villages to have lunch and walk around. LOVED Italy, we would go back in a second! Eventhough we saw so much, there is still so much more to see.... Going there on a painting trip is on my wish list....
This image was taken in the heart of Tuscany where these patches of sunflowers are just the thing to make you smile instantly. I painted this one back in December as well,   I particularly liked how the distant hills and  tree shapes in the back came together.
This painting along with 27 other ones is on display at the Burning Desire Show up at the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre in Duncan until  March 2. Contact me if you are planning to go up, I can give you a detailed schedule of when the theatre is open.

Hace un par de año pasamos 5 semanas en Italia, fue absolutamente maravilloso. Alquilamos un auto y recorrimos mucho territorio pero a un buen ritmo, muchos días sólo viajabamos 100 or 200 km entre los lugares donde pasamos la noche, paramos en pueblitos hermosos donde almorzamos y caminamos. Nos ENCANTO Italia, volveríamos en un segundo! A pesar de haber conocido mucho, nos queda todavía tanto por ver.... Ir a pintar a Italia está en mi lista de deseos.....
Esta imágen fue tomada en el corazón de la Toscana, donde estos campos de girasoles son perfectos para hacerte sonreir en el acto. Pinté este cuadro en Diciembre también y me gustó en particular como quedaron las montañas y árboles distantes.
Este cuadro, junto con otros 27 está en exhibición en el muestra "Deseo Ardiente" en el Centro de Teatro en  Duncan hasta el 2 de Marzo.

I painted "The Wild Garden" back in December when I was trying out going bigger with my oils. I have wanted for a while to start painting larger than 11x14 which was the biggest I had done up to that point, so I chose a familiar subject, similar to my huge garden  painted before and it worked!! I followed the same process I always do with my oils and I am very pleased with how it all worked out, I was able to work the way I always do, "Alla Prima" (all in one sitting without letting the paitn dry) and it is giving me confidence to keep growing in size.
This painting along with 27 other ones is on display at the Burning Desire Show up in Duncan until  March 2.

Pinté "El Jardín Silvestre" en Diciembre cuando estaba empezando a intentar pintar óleos mas grandes. Hace rato que quiero probar eso, más grandes que 27x35cm, lo mas grande en óleos hasta ese momento. Elegí un tema familiar para que me resultara más fácil, similar a mi jardín grande en acrílicos y estoy muy contenta con cómo salió. Trabajé "alla prima", es  decir todo en una sola sesión sin dejar que la pintura se seque, y estoy me ha dado más confianza para seguir creciendo en tamaño.

Este cuadro, junto con otros 27 están en exhibición en el muestra "Deseo Ardiente" en Duncan hasta el 2 de Marzo.
