I started this painting last July at a demo at South Shore Gallery and wasn't able to get back to it until now. I loved lots of what was happening in this painting and I like it now as well. This birdhouse  is actually in my back yard, we have quite a collection of them and I really enjoy watching the birds go in and make nests, some of them stay to actually have the babies in there, some others don't, I wonder why, I don't know enough about birds.... speaking of which I thought of hiding a birdie somewhere..... I may still do it! The colour of the leaves in  the bush behind the fence was just stunning, specially in the evening light! Looking forward to seeing that again in a  few weeks since Fall is starting toshow in many streets and gardens.

Empecé este cuadro este julio pasado cuando hice una demostración en la Galería South Shore y no lo había tocado hasta ahora. Me gustó mucho todo lo que estaba pasando en este cuadro y todavía me gusta. Esta casa de pájaros está en mi patio, tenemos una buena colección y disfruto mucho mirar como los pajaritos anidan, algunos de ellos se quedan hasta que tienen pichones, y otros no pero no se la razón, no se suficiente sobre pájaros… Hablando de eso, pensé que tal vez podía esconder un pajarito en algún lugar… Tal vez todavía lo haga! El color de las hojas del arbusto de atrás de la cerca era espectacular, especialmente en la luz de la atardecer, estoy esperando que esté así de nuevo en un par de semanas ya que el otoño ya está apareciendo en las calles y jardines.

I was very excited when I got invited to participate in this show at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. The show is called "Captured Flight" and there will be bird art on the walls and dozens of bird houses painted and decorated by local artists. I decided to do mine with Zentangles as I have been wanting to incorporate them into other things not just paper by themselves. I am very happy with the result, I think I want to make more!


The show runs June 12 to July 5th at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, 1040 Moss Street, 10 to 5 pm except for Sundays which is 12 to 5 pm.

There is an Opening Reception this coming Saturday June 13, from 2 to 4pm. I will be there  for the opening, I am very exited to see all the birdhouses! Do stop by and say hi if you are in the area!

Me puse muy contenta cuando me invitaron a participar en esta muestra en la Galería de Arte de Victoria. La exhibición se llama "Vuelo Capturado" y va a haber arte de aves en las paredes y docenas de casitas para pájaros pintadas y decoradas por artistas locales. Decidí hacer la mía con Zentangles ya que hacía tiempo que quería aplicar la técnica para algo mas que papel. Estoy muy satisfecha con los resultados, me parece que quiero hacer mas!
La muestra corre desde el 12 Junio al 5 de Julio, en la  Galería de Arte de Victoria. Hay una recepción de apertura este Sábado 13 de Junio de 2 a 4 de la tardeen la que voy a estar. Tengo muchas ganas de ver todas las casitas. Pasen y saluden  si pueden!

Day 28: Hope

Now talk about the ones that pour out of the brush!! I meant to start this one last night to be finished this morning, I got to a point that I had to stop as it was late and needed to end the day but when I stepped back I went: wow, it's finished! I love it when the creative process happens like that, it's like I don't really recall the process of painting, like I started and then all of a sudden it was finished...

This painting is dedicated to a good friend of mine and her family. Her dad passed away just about a year ago of ALS. Up until then I didn't know anything about ALS and what a terrible disease it is.  There is not much awareness about it. Like myself, most of us don't even know what is  all about. The cause for it is unknown, therefore there is no prevention or treatment for it. There are many people affected by  ALS  and in order to raise awareness a group of people (including my friend) from Victoria organized and took part in a Ride that took place last August in the Okanagam Valley. An around 550 km beautiful route  through incredible sites that took them about a week. It is called the Cycle of Hope and the crow became the symbol for it. The crow symbolizes the loved ones they lost to ALS. I hope that  more research leads to finding a cure for ALS and awareness is what is needed at this point! Hope at least one more person became aware today of it through my painting. My heart goes out to all those affected by it. Very proud of all who participated in the ALS Cycle of Hope!!

Hablando de los cuadros que se caen del pincel!!!!! La intención era anoche empezar este para terminarlo esta mañana. Llegó un punto que tuve que parar porque era tarde y necesitaba terminar el día pero cuando me retiré un poco de la pintura para sacarle una foto me dije: wow, esta terminada! Me encanta cuando el proceso creativo occurre de este modo; es como que no me acuerdo del proceso de pintar, es como empecé y de repente está terminada.... 

Este cuadro esta dedicado a una amiga y a su familia que hace más o menos un año perdieron al padre  a una enfermedad terrible llamada E.L.A. (Esclerosis Lateral Amiotrofica). Hasta entonces yo ni sabía de esta enfermedad y lo espantosa que es. Como yo, hay muchas personas que no saben nada tampoco. No hay conocimento general. La causa es desconocida y por lo tanto no hay tratamiento. Hay muchísimas personas afectadas por ELA y para que elevar el recogimiento público , un grupo de gente (incluyendo a mi amiga) de Victoria, organizaron y participaron en una bicicleteada este último Agosto en el Valle de Okanagan. Una ruta hermosa de aproximadamente 550km por lugares increíbles que les llevó una semana. Se llama "La Bicicleteada de la Esperanza" y el Cuervo se transformó en su símbolo que representa a los que amados que has sido perdidos a ELA. Espero que más investigación científica conduzca a la cura y para eso necesitamos más conciencia para recaudar fondos para la investigación. Espero que aunque sea una persona se entere hoy de la existencia de esta enfermedad por medio de mi cuadro y este blog. Mi corazón está con todos aquellos afectados por ELA y estoy muy orgullosa de los que participaron en la "Bicicleteada de la Esperanza para ELA"!!
