I may still have a couple of days left of this gorgeous bouquet of tulips.... then it may be back to landscapes or  more flowers, we'll see what the mood calls for..... It's supposed to be cold for the next few days, even  possible snow for the weekend so I may need to keep up with flowers to pretend Spring s closer that it truly is!

Me deben quedar un par de días  mas de este ramo de flores tan hermoso..... después tal vez vuelva a paisajes o a mas flores, veremos de qué me dan ganas.... supuestamente va a estar frio estos días, hasta tal vez tengamos nieve este fin de semana asi que tal vez tenga que seguir con las flores para hacer de cuenta que la primavera está mas cerca de lo que realmente está!

 These are #12 & 13 of the 30 Day painting Challenge. I did paint  everyday but didn't get to post a couple of days ago. It was Family Day Long weekend and getting out for a walk to enjoy the sunshine took precedent over posting. I'm switching gears from landscapes for a few days by painting my other love: flowers. I am still using the same principles I have been applying this past week... Thicker paint, limited number of strokes, less censorship.....

Fue fin de semana largo y preferí salir a disfrutar del hermoso sol antes de sentarme  en la computadora a escribir este post. Estoy cambiando de marcha, paso de paisajes a mi otro amor: las flores. Sigo utilizando los mismos principios de esta semana pasada.... mas pintura, número limitado de pinceladas, menos censura.....

I have donated this painting to the BC Cancer Foundation and their event Jingle Mingle happening on Nov 30th at the Empress Hotel here in Victoria, BC. I painted this one last Spring on Moss Street when the cherry blossoms were out, what a show!! I can hardly wait to paint them again next year!
I love what the Foundation is fundraising for: To be able to purchase a PET-CT Scan  machine so that patients don't have to go to Vancouver for imaging. We have all been touched in some way or other by this horrible disease, either personally or through friends or family. Having a machine in town would make things a lot easier for people on the island. Please consider attending the event, tickets can be purchased at the site above. It should be a good event with a Silent and Live Auction, Raffle and more! This is just my humble contribution to the cause.

He donado este cuadro a la Fundación de Cancer de British Columbia y su evento Jingle Mingle que ocurre el 30 de Noviembre en el Empress Hotel aquí en Victoria. Pinté este cuadro esta primavera pasada en la calle Moss cuando todos los cerezos estaban en flor.  Qué espectaculo!! No veo la hora que vuelvan a florecer este año que viene para pintarlos de nuevo!
Me gustó mucho  el motivo de este evento: para recaudar fondos para comprar una máquina para tomografías en estaría en el hospital de acá, de este modo, los pacientes con cancer no van a tener que ir a Vancouver para hacer estos estudios. Desafortunadamente, el cancer nos ha tocado a todos, de forma directa o indirecta con amigos o familiares. Tener un tomógafo en Victoria sería tanto mejor para las familias que estan pasando por estas dificulatdes. Por favor, consideren ir al evento, las entradas están en venta en el sitio que les muestro arriba, va a estar muy beno, con subastas, rifas y mas! esta es mi humilde contribución para esta causa.

This is a painting I did a while back from flowers I just gathered from my yard. Love spring and flowers. I love seeing what is coming back every year and how things I planted last year gain strength the second season as they mature. Maybe I am inclined to post this today thinking of flowers and warmth as this doesn't feel like June at all but more like Mid March! Hopefully Summer starts this week :)

Este es un cuadro que hice hace un tiempo con flores que había cortado de mi jardín. Me encanta la primavera y las flores, me encanta ver cómo vuelven las cosas de la temporada pasada y ver como maduran las plantas de un año al otro. Last week I went with the Al Frescoes to paint again at Island View Beach. The day was absolutely gorgeous, no wind, sunshine and lots of painters around. There were many options to paint that day and I decided to try this view  with the path, logs and some water.  I was worried about the whole foreground but int he end I kept it loose and I am quite pleased with the way it turned out. I am still looking at it and deciding whether I will make a couple of changes or not. Getting ready to go paint again this morning so stay tuned. And speaking of getting ready I am almost there for the studio tour happening this weekend.
Again, this piece,  as well as many other paintings,  will be available at the Studio Tour I am part of this coming up Sat & Sun, May 7 & 8, 11 to 4 pm.   I am opening my home and studio to the public so people can come and visit during the Cadboro Bay-Gordon Head Studio Tour! La semana pasada fui con los  AlFrescoes a pintar a Island View Beach de nuevo. El día estuvo absolutamente hermoso, sin viento, con sol y muchos pintores por todos lados. Había varias opciones para pintar ese día y decidí tratar esta vista del caminito, los troncos y un poco de mar. Estaba un poco preocupada con todo el primer plano pero lo dejé sin detalles y estoy bastante contenta con cómo me salió. Como siempre,  sigo evaluando si le voy a hacer algunos cambios o no.  Me estoy preparando para ir a pintar de nuevo esta mañana,  les muestro la semana que viene. Y hablando de prepararme estoy casi lista ya para el tour de talleres este fin de semana.
Como les dije antes, este cuadro,  como muchos otros, va a estar disponible en el tour de talleres del que soy parte este sábado y domingo 7 y 8 de mayo de 11:00 a 4:00 de la tarde. Estoy abriendo mi casa y mi taller al público para que la gente pueda venir y visitar durante el  Cadboro Bay-Gordon Head Studio Tour. A while back I was scheduled to do a demo a Coast Collective where I show and sell my work. I decided to do this piece which came from an ealy morning run back in Feb. I was running, saw this flower stand and just HAD to go back to take a few pictures of it.

Hace un tiempo tenía que ir hacer una demostración en Coat Collective,  donde yo muestro y vendo mi trabajo. Decidí ese día pintar este cuadrito que resultó de una mañana en la salí a correr en Febrero.  Estaba corriendo y ví este puesto de flores.... simplemente tuve que parar y sacar algunas fotos.

Day 30 of 30: January Blossoms

Wow!!!!! I did it!!!! It is such a great feeling!!!! Very bittersweet of course because I do enjoy the pace but at the same time I am happy to slow down a bit, finish a lot of the work I started this month and get on with the really really long list of things to get done in the next couple of weeks. (Before heading to Mexico!!!!!)

I actually did this painting yesterday in the studio right after coming back from the plein-air session. Funny that I finally got ahead in the challenge on the last day!! While walking around yesterday at the park, we walked by this tree that already has blooms  out! I am so fortunate to live in this part of Canada! We literally have flowers year round! I love the palette and the loose feel of this painting. Hope you like it too, more about the challenge on tomorrow's post! Happy Saturday!

Wow!!! Lo hice!!!! Que buen sentimiento que es haber terminado algo!!! Bastante agridulce ya que disfruto mucho del ritmo de los desafíos pero a la vez estoy contenta de ir un poco mas despacio, terminar algunos de los trabajos comenzados este mes y atacar la muy muy larga lista  de cosas por hacer en estas dos semanas próximas (antes de ir a Méjico!!!!!!)

La verdad es que hice este cuadro ayer, una vez que volví de pintar afuera. Es gracioso que finalmentme puedo adelantar un día el último día del desafío!! Mientras estabamos caminando en el parque sacando fotos, encontré este árbol que tiene flores ya! Tengo tanta suerte de vivir en esta zona de Canadá! Tenemos flores literalmente el año entero! Me gusta mucho la paleta de este cuadro y la falta de detalles, espero que les guste, más sobre el desafío mañana! Que pasen un buen sábado!

Again, I am visiting the plum/cherry blossoms looking from below.....  I am really happy with lots of things in this painting but really unhappy with some others. I know though, that when I start putting strokes on the canvas and all they do is make things worse, I just need to stop, so..... another one to be watched for a while :) Seems I am developing quite the pile this month!

Nuevamente estoy visitando la idea de las flores de cerezo vistas desde abajo.... Estoy muy contenta con varias cosas en este cuadro pero también estoy muy insatischecha con otras tantas cosas. Sé que cuando empiezo a piner pinceladas que arruinan las cosas más que nada es hora de parar.... así es que hay otra para tener en observación durante un tiempito :) Parece que estoy armando una buena pila de estos cuadro "en observación"  este mes!

I have wanted to paint this for about 20 years! I remember moving to Victoria, BC, Canada and walking under the ornamental cherry trees in the spring, looking up and going WOW!!! I just LOVE that view. Well..... here is a loose interpretation of them! I know there are many areas that are not resolved but that is one of the things I like about the painting..... I want to try it bigger!

Off to enjoy the sun in this gorgeous Sunday!

Hace como 20 años que quiero pintar este cuadro! Me acuerdo cuando me mudé a Victoria, BC en Canadá y por primera vez caminé por debajo de uno de los áboles de cereza ornamentales y miré hacia arriba..... WOW!!!! Cómo me encantó esa persperctiva!. Bueno, acá tienen una interpretación muy lire de esa vista! Sé que hay muchas areas  que no están resueltas pero eso es exactamente lo que me gusta en este cuadro..... quiero hacerlo mas grande ahora!

Me voy a disfrutar del sol en este hermoso domingo!

#22 of 30: Ink Bottle and Snowdrops

I am stuck in the glass and snowdrops theme it seems and I don't mind that one single bit because I am enjoying it a lot! I wanted to try them on a different colour background to see how that affected the whole thing. I chose green and in this case used 2 different pieces of green cloth. This was one of those paintings that goes into its own direction right from the beginning so I got out of the way and let that happen! I wanted to go back to leaving the brushstrokes showing which I like so much. The challenge was the vase/bottle for sure, it has all those facets which made the shapes and colours inside very hard to believe. It is actually a very old ink bottle, part of my daughter's bottle collection. I liked the shadows as well as part of the whole thing.

Something that I am using more and more as a tool is the camera (on the iPad). Half way through the painting, I take a shot of it in progress and the minute I see it on the screen I see the things that need to be changed. Very useful tool. The annoying thing is when I think I am done, I photograph it, come to write the blog and once I put it on here, I go, oh no, I HAVE to go change THAT, once I thought it was finished!

Parece que estoy atrapada en el tema de vidrio y campanitas de invierno lo cual no me molesta en absoluto porque lo estoy disfrutando mucho! Quería probarlos con otro color de fondo para ver cómo eso afecta el resto. Elegí color verde y en este caso, 2 telas de distintos verdes. Esta fue una de esas pinturas que toman su propia dirección enseguida y lo que hice fue hacerme a un lado y dejar que ocurriera no más! Quería volver a dejar las pinceladas bien marcadas que me gusta tanto. El desafío hoy fue con seguridad la botella/florero, tiene todas seas caras o facetas que hacía que los colores y las formas fueran bastante difícil de creer. Esa botella es un tintero antiguo, parte de la collección de botellas de mi hija Camila. También me gustaron las sobras de las flores como parte de la composición  general. 

Una herramienta que estoy usando cada vez más es la cámara del IPad. En cualquier etapa, saco fotos del cuadro y apenas las veo en la pantalla puedo ver las cosas que tengo que corregir. Una herramienta muy útil. Lo que más da bronca es cuando creo que ya está listo, empiezo a escribir el blog y cuando subo la foto veo y digo: Oh No, TENGO que sí o si cambiar tal cosa cuando creía que ya estaba terminado!

#20 of 30: January Shadows

I was on a roll today and went for a second painting to see if I can get caught up. Yesterday afternoon  I saw these snowdrops and they stopped me on my tracks. They were sitting in front of a terracota pot and with the sun shining on them they they casting these gorgeous shadows. The shadows are actually what interested me and caught my attention. I took some photos with my IPad (I use it ALL the time!)  and voilá, here is number 2 for the day.

It was interesting to tackle this one as I first drew and painted the flowers. Then after they were mostly in I started drawing the shadows. First I drew them without the orange/red from the pot, thinking that I would fill in the blanks with the pot colour. But after yesterday's experience I ended up painting the pot and then drawing them again with the darker value. Of course there was a fair bit of adjusting values afterwards but it was fun to see the plan come together. This is the great thing about this daily painting, we build up what we learn and we are hopefully learning from our mistakes! 

Only one behind now, I can do it, I can do it! :)

Las cosas estaban funcionando bien hoy por lo que hice una segunda pintura para ver si me pongo al día. Ayer vi estan Campanitas de Invierno y me pararon  en el acto. Estaban plantadas adelante de una maceta de terracota y con el sol formaban unas sombras maravillosas. Estas sombras son en realidad lo que me interesó y lo que me llamó la atención. Les saqué unas cuantas fotos con el IPad (que lo uso TODO el tiempo) y voilá, acá está la segunda del día. 

Fue interesante planear esta pintura ya que primero dibujé y pinté las flores. Después de que estaban ya bien encaminadas, primero dibujé las sombras sin pintar el naranja/rojo de la maceta, pensando que iba a "llenar los espacios" después con el color de la maceta. Pero después de la experiencia de ayer, decidí pintar primero la maceta y después dibujar las sombras de nuevo con el color más oscuro. Por supuesto que tuve que ajustar los claros y oscuros después pero fue muy bueno ver que el plan funcionó. Esto es algo muy bueno de estas pinturas diarias, los aprendizajes se acumulan todos los días y aprendemos de nuestros errores! 

Estoy atrás una sola ahora, yo puedo hacerlo, si que puedo! :)

Last week (second week of January, please note rest of Canada :) snowdrops were starting to pop up in my yard and I got VERY excited. I was waiting until they were a bit taller and here they are! Love this time of the year when everything starts sprouting, from now on, there is a succession of blooms in my yard and I can't wait to paint them all. 

That was not nice on my part, to point out that we have flowers here already, my apologies..... =D

La semana pasada (la segunda semana de Enero, tenga en cuenta esto el resto de Canadá por favor :) las "campanitas de Invierno" (esa es la traducción que encontré!) empezaron a aparecer en mi jardín y me puse re-contenta. Estaba esperando un poquito para que se pusieran más altas y acá están! Me encanta esta época del año cuando todo empieza a brotar. De acá en adelante hay una sucesión de flores y no puedo esperar a pintarlas a todas. 

Eso estuvo muy mal de mi parte, asegurame que supieran que ya tenemos flores, mis disculpas..... =D

Day 22: Spring on the Goose

Yesterday I also painted a shot from one of those marathon training runs on the Galloping Goose (a running/walking/cycling trail that goes from Victoria Downtown to  Sooke)  It is about 60k long and we spent countless hours running on it. The canopies of the trees form like an arch above and it looks a lot like a tunnel. Today is actually the first day of Fall but having being born in Argentina, historically today is the first day of Spring!!!  So my post is very appropriate!

Ayer también pinté una toma de esas corridas de entrenamiento para la maratón en el Galloping Goose. (Un sendero de 60 km para caminar, correr o andar en bicicleta que va desde Victoria hasta Sooke). Pasamos un número incontable de horas corriendo en ese sendero. Las cúpulas de los árboles arman un arco y se ve como un túnel  en algunas partes. Hoy es el primer día de otoño acá peor habiendo nacido en Argentina, hoy historicamente para mi es el primer día de primavera! Asi que mi cuadro de hoy es muy apropiado!!!
