This was another painting following along the same lines as the previous one and in the whole series of flowers from life. The colour of this dahlia was quite particular and I think I actually managed to get that pretty well. I made the mistake though of placing the vase too close to the sides of the board and when I went to put it in a frame, it didn't look right at all, the composition didn't quite work out.... so this ends up being just a study where as always I learnt a lot. Sometimes they work sometimes they don't!  :)

Éste es otro de los cuadros que sigue en el mismo estilo de los anteriores y que forman parte de la serie de flores pintadas. El color de esta Dalia era bastante particular y creo que en realidad logre conseguirlo bastante bien. Sin embargo cometí el error de colocar el florero demasiado cerca de los costados del panel por lo tanto cuando le quise poner un marco, no se veía bien para nada, la composición en realidad no funciona. Esto termina siendo simplemente un estudio con el que aprendí muchísimo como siempre.  A veces funcionan, a veces no! :)

A while back I was scheduled to do a demo a Coast Collective where I show and sell my work. I decided to do this piece which came from an ealy morning run back in Feb. I was running, saw this flower stand and just HAD to go back to take a few pictures of it.
This one,  as well as many other paintings,  will be available at the Studio Tour I am part of this coming up Sat & Sun, May 7 & 8, 11 to 4 pm.   I am opening my home and studio to the public so people can come and visit during the Cadboro Bay-Gordon Head Studio Tour! Check the link, I am number 6 on the map.. 3876A Finnerty Rd. is my address. My house is at the very end of the long driveway, parking may be limited so try and find parking without going into the driveway. Hope to see you then!

Hace un tiempo tenía que ir hacer una demostración en Coat Collective,  donde yo muestro y vendo mi trabajo. Decidí ese día pintar este cuadrito que resultó de una mañana en la salí a correr en Febrero.  Estaba corriendo y ví este puesto de flores.... simplemente tuve que parar y sacar algunas fotos.
Éste, como muchos otros cuadros, va a estar disponible en el tour de talleres del que soy parte este sábado y domingo 7 y 8 de mayo de 11:00 a 4:00 de la tarde. Estoy abriendo mi casa y mi taller al público para que la gente pueda venir y visitar durante el  Cadboro Bay-Gordon Head Studio Tour. Fíjense en el link, soy la número 6 en el mapa. 3876A Finnerty Rd. es mi dirección,  mi casa es la tercera desde la calle.  Mi caminito para la casa es largo... This is the last of the flower fields I painted last December. As with the last, it was painted from another reference photo from our trip to Italy a couple of years ago. I love the background and all the colour peaking through behind the sunflowers leaves and stocks.  I did make a couple of changes to this painting before shipping it out of the studio to the exhibition but didn't take a photo of the final version.
This painting along with 27 other ones is on display at the Burning Desire Show up at the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre in Duncan until  March 2. Contact me if you are planning to go up, I can give you a detailed schedule of when the theatre is open or go my website where I have noted the schedule.

Este es el último de los campos con flores que pinté en Diciembre. Como el anterior, lo pinté de fotos que había sacado en nuestro viaje a Italia hace un par de años. Me encanta el fondo de los arbustos y árboles y los diferentes colores que hay por detrás de las hojas y tallos de los girasoles. Le hice un par de cambios mínimos antes de despacharlo hacia una muestra pero me olvidé de sacarle una nueva foto de la versión final, es muy similar de todas formas.
Este cuadro, junto con otros 27 está en exhibición en el muestra "Deseo Ardiente" en el Centro de Teatro en  Duncan hasta el 2 de Marzo. Mandenme un mensaje si tienen plaeado ir a ver la mustra y les puedo dar los horarios que está abierta o vayan a mi sitio de internet donde he marcado los horarios.

We are staying in Tuscany for one more day as it is very beautiful :) I wanted to try a different composition for this impression of sunflowers. I am not as happy with this rendition as I was with yesterday's but I am pressed for time. I actually painted it yesterday right after the other one as I need to bank a couple for the next few weeks.  :) I ended up not having time today and was glad I had done that yesterday!

Nos quedamos en la Toscana un día más ya que es tan hermosa :) Quise probar una composición diferente en esta impresión de girasoles. No estoy tan contenta con este como con el de ayer pero anduve con poco tiempo hoy. En realidad pinté este cuadrito ayer junto con el anterior ya que necesitaba tener algunos listos en reserva para esta próximas semanas cuando no tuviera tiempo :) Terminé usando ese extra hoy ya que me quedé sin tiempo!

Today we are taking a drive through Tuscany and we come across some beautiful sunflower fields. One of the things that really suprised me about Italy was how much "space" there was in between towns. I expected it all to be way more populated than it is. There is a LOT more agriculture than I imagined. They plant olive groves, grape vines and orchards everywhere they can and it is really beautiful.  Trying to stay loose, use big brushes and have fun which is what it is all about right?

Hoy vamos de paseo por la Toscana y nos encontramos con campos llenos de girasoles. Una de las cosas que me orpredió mucho en Italia fue la cantidad de "espacio" que hay entre los pueblos. Hay MUCHA mas agricultura de lo que me imaginaba, creía que toda Italia iba a ser mucho mas poblada de lo que es. Plantan olivares, viñas y huertos por todos lados y es realmente muy hermoso.
Sigo tratando de mantener la espontaneidad, usar pinceles grandes y divertirme, que de eso se trata no?
