Back a couple of months ago I was in Vancouver visiting my daughter when I went to run an errand in the mall across the street from her apartment.  I was stopped dead in my tracks at this florist that had such an incredible number of orchids, I had to take photos of them!! You may see a few more of these maybe?? I need to get back in this painting when the oil is not so wet. Loved painting he backgraound.


I delivered 2 paintings today to the At Gallery of Greater Victoria for a show called Love at First Glance. I was very excited to have those paintings accepted. There's going to be over 100 pieces available. Details at the link above.

Hace un par de meses estaba visitando a mi hija en Vancouver cuando fui a comprar un par de cosas al shopping que está al frente de su departamento. Iba caminando y de repente vi esta florería con una cantidad tan impresionanate de orquideas que tuve que parar a sacar fotos por supuesto! Tal vez vean mas cuadro de orquídeas en el futuro?? tengo que volver a un par de  areas en este cuadro pero quiero esperar a que se seque un poco la pintura.

Llevé 2 cuadros hoy a la Galería de Arte de Victoria para una muestra que se llama Amor a Primera Vista. Estoy muy contenta de tener 2 cuadros aceptados en esta muestra, va a haber mas de 100 cuadros para que uds disfruten. Los dos cuadros que estan arriba son los lleve hoy, tal vez los recuerden de principios de mes.

I loved today. Not only do I love foxgloves but I loved painting it!! I set out  to just have fun,  to loosely portray them and I am pleased..... are they perfect??   NO!!!   I am never about things being perfect.... well.... let's leave it at that.... (I am sure some friends would disagree, haha ) Onto the next one!
Note: I very very rarely paint from photos that are not mine, this one came from a photo my friend Faye posted quite  a while ago and I asked her if I could use it for painting. :) Thank you Faye!!

Me encantó hoy!. No sólo me encantan los "digitales" (no sé muy bien cual es la traducción de estas flores en castellano) sino que me encantó pintarlos!! Empecé con la idea simplemente de divertirme un rato, de representarlos de manera muy espontánea y estoy contenta..... están perfectos?? NO!!!  Nunca me interesa que las cosas sean perfectas .... hmmm....bueno,.... mejor lo dejamos ahí (algunas amigas dirían que esto no es cierto jaja)  Vamos con la que sigue!!
Nota: Casi nunca pinto de fotos que no son mías, es muy raro que haga eso pero esta es de una foto que mi amiga Faye puso en FB y yo le pedí permiso para pintarla, Gracias Faye!!

Day 10 of 30: Look up, look up!!

I have wanted to paint this for about 20 years! I remember moving to Victoria, BC, Canada and walking under the ornamental cherry trees in the spring, looking up and going WOW!!! I just LOVE that view. Well..... here is a loose interpretation of them! I know there are many areas that are not resolved but that is one of the things I like about the painting..... I want to try it bigger!

Off to enjoy the sun in this gorgeous Sunday!

Hace como 20 años que quiero pintar este cuadro! Me acuerdo cuando me mudé a Victoria, BC en Canadá y por primera vez caminé por debajo de uno de los áboles de cereza ornamentales y miré hacia arriba..... WOW!!!! Cómo me encantó esa persperctiva!. Bueno, acá tienen una interpretación muy lire de esa vista! Sé que hay muchas areas  que no están resueltas pero eso es exactamente lo que me gusta en este cuadro..... quiero hacerlo mas grande ahora!

Me voy a disfrutar del sol en este hermoso domingo!

Under the Grapevine - #23 of 30

I have been procrastinating to do this painting for the whole 24 days of the challenge, it was on the original bunch I printed.  And there was a reason for avoiding it! Those shadows gave me the grief I expected today and I am not sure I got it totally solved and finished. They kept getting bigger and bigger and it would take a lot of conscious effort to make them go back to the original shape! I was so glad I took a photo at the somewhat beginning stages because it helped me later on to look and say "Hey! What happened?? How did I lose all that great empty space on the wall and filled it with shadows that were not there to begin with?" Will live with it for a few days and look at it with fresh eyes. Lesson today?  Paint more shadows to get them right!  Love the colours though!

This door can be found at a B&B on the hill up to the lighthouse in Brunate, the town above Como. There were tables and chairs under the grapevine overlooking the great view of the city of Como below.

He estado procrastinando todo el mes para hacer esta pintura, estaba dentro del primer grupo de fotos que imprimí para pintar y todavía no lo echo. Había una razón por la que la estaba evadiendo:  Esas sombras me dieron el trabajo que suponía me iban a dar y no estoy segura de que funcionan bien todavía, no se si están terminadas.  Se ponían cada vez más grandes y requirieron mucha atención para traerlas de nuevo al tamaño original. Por suerte había sacado una foto en la etapa inicial  y me ayudó para ver y de repente decir: "Hey! que pasó? Cómo es que perdí todo ese espacio libre en la pared y lo llené con sombras que no existían?" Lo voy a observar por unos días y lo quiero mirar mañana con ojos frescos. La lección del día? Pintar más sombras para aprender!  Me encantan los colores que logré. :)

Esta puerta está en un B&B en la subida hacia el faro en Brunate, el pueblo que está arriba de Como. Había mesas y sillas en el patio debajo de una parra desde donde se veía una gran vista de la ciudad de Como.

Day 13: Very Pink

I picked to paint this Echinacea flower because they are colours I don't normally use. This is the first year they bloom in my garden too and I  wanted to get them before they are finished for the year. (This summer has been great in my garden as I had a deer fence installed and it is the first year I see some plants and flowers go to full growth in the 10 years that we have lived in this house!!) I was also after something simple as this was second painting yesterday and I didn't have a lot of time. (I did paint another one today!)  I went back on it today and fixed the centre that had gotten out of shape.

Elegií pintar esta flor de Equinacea por que son colores que no uso normalmente. Es el primer año que florecen en mi jardín y quería llegar a pintarlas antes de que se acabaran  esta temporada. (Este año ha sido bárbaro en mi jardín porque hice instalar una cerca para que los ciervos no entraran y es el primer año que veo ciertas plantas y flores llegar a estado maduro en los 10 años que hemos estado en esta casa). También quería pintar algo simple ya que esta fue mi segunda pintura ayer y no me quedaba mucho tiempo. Hoy le retoqué el centro que había perdido la forma.
