This one is also from Desolation Sound area, coming out of Princess Louisa Inlet we spent the night and celebrated Canada Day (July 1) at the mouth of Jarvis Inlet in this little bay lined with quiant summer cabins. It was a very nice place! I didn't think I was going to make it to write this post in time, it's so late..... Good night everyone!

We are going back to Desolation Sound with this painting. At the very end of Teakere Arm, there is a waterfall and above it, Cassel Lake which is very popular with boaters in the summer.  Everybody that goes to Teakerne Arm does the short 10 min hike to the lake and jump from the rocks! We were there last July and I painted instead of swimming :)

Con este cuadro volvemos a Desolation Sound.  Al final de Teakerne Arm, hay una cascada y arriba de la cascada está el Lago Cassel que es muy muy popular con toda la gente va a este lugar en el verano. Todos hacen la caminata de 10 minutos hasta el lago y saltan desde las piedras. Fuimos ahí en Julio y yo pinté en lugar de meterme al agua :)

I had very limited time to paint today and very low energy for it and instead of leaving some strokes alone, I kept making things worse and worse by trying to correct mistakes.... For today, it's time to stop :) This was painted from life, not a photograph.

Today I participated in a plein air event at Fort Rodd Hill in Colwood, We painted from 11 till 2 when we had to hand in the paintings for jurying. It was a wonderful day, the weather was just perfect and the fall colours are starting to come out. All the paintings from the event will be on display at the Juan de Fuca Rec Centre for the month of October I believe  (will confirm the length later on).
I know I missed yesterday but I actually missed posting, not painting. Had a really busy day and I just simply didn't get to it. Today, I barely have time for it again as I am headed out the door again as soon as I am done with this.  It is my 22nd wedding anniversary and we are going out to celebrate!! Yay us! I am so thankful to have such an amazing and supportive husband by my side. :) Here's to another 22!
(The colours on the painting are totally off  but I don't have the painting since it is left with the show, will have to repost once I can get a better image :)

Hoy participé en un evento al aire libre en el Fuerte Rodd Hill en Colwood. Pintamos desde las 11 hasta las 2:00 de la tarde cuando tuvimos que entregar las pinturas para que fueran juradas. Fue un día muy bueno, el tiempo estuvo perfecto y los colores del otoño están empezando a aparecer. Todos los cuadros del día van a formar parte de una muestra en el Centro de Recreación Juan de Fuca durante el mes de octubre creo, voy a confirmar la fecha. Sé que ayer no puse nada pero la verdad es que si pinté, simplemente no tuve tiempo de escribir nada. Tuvo un día muy ocupado y no llegué a hacerlo. Hoy,  como ayer, casi no tengo tiempo ya que acabo de llegar y me estoy yendo de nuevo, es mi aniversario de casada,  22 años!! y estamos por salir a celebrar. Estoy tan agradecida de tener un esposo tan bueno  que me apoya siempre en todo. Ojalá que tengamos otros 22!!
Los colores de la foto no has salido bien pero no tengo el cuadro ya que ha quedado para la muestra, voy a tener que volver a sacar la foto :)

Today is Friday so it was Plein Air morning with the Alfrescoes.... I wasn't too excited to go to Cattle Point as despite it being a gorgeous spot,  I don't find it particularly exciting to paint so I set out to do a sky study or something like that and then I turned around and BAM! There was my painting! David had set up earlier and was hard at work. He is always so easily found and recognizable because of his yellow rain coat.... Maybe I should call this painting "A Man and His Yellow Raincoat" :)  Loved painting it, it was so much fun; The composition is what I like the most. Enjoy the painting David and thank you for coming out today and being my model!! The painting is covered in dirt and will get cleaned up once the oil paint is drier.

Hoy es viernes así que fue mañana de pintar al aire libre con los Alfrescoes..… No estaba muy entusiasmada de ir a pintar a Cattle Point porque a pesar de que es un lugar hermosísimo, no lo encuentro particularmente interesante para pintar así es que decidí hacer un estudio del cielo o algo así y entonces me di vuelta y BAM!!! Ahí estaba mi cuadro!!! David había empezado a pintar más temprano y estaba trabajando duro. El siempre es tan fácil de encontrar y de reconocer por su piloto amarillo.... Tal vez debería llamar a este cuadro "Un Hombre y su Piloto Amarillo" :) Me encantó pintarlo, fue muy muy divertido, la composición del cuadro es lo que más me gusta. Espero que lo disfrutes David, gracias por venir a pintar hoy y ser mi modelo!! El cuadro está cubierto en tierra y pasto pero lo voy a limpiar una vez que la pintura esté más seca.

I am so enjoying this series of paintings..... Having lots of fun with building up the layers and seeing where each painting goes. Again, it needs to rest and I'll look at it again with fresh eyes in the morning.  Short and sweet today as it was a very long day packed full of appointments, meetings, painting, kitchen reno (New window is in!) and digging in the yard. Time to call it a day, good night!

Estoy disfrutando tanto de esta serie de cuadros,  disfrutando de construir cada capa y ver hacia donde va cada pintura. Como la anterior, tiene que descansar y la voy a mirar de nuevo mañana a la mañana con ojos frescos. Hoy la hago corta y dulce ya que ha sido un día muy largo lleno de reuniones, pintura, remodelación de cocina (la ventana de la cocina está instalada!) y trabajo en el jardín. Es hora de terminar el día, buenas noches!

This painting is one of the ones I was working on yesterday, I went back into it today and even though I wanted to keep going I couldn't change too much as this painting is sold and I needed to keep lots of what the client originally saw at the half way point. I have taken it to a spot where I can live with it.... but now that I see it online.... I may have to go back in it again just a few touches.... It's very hard to capture the true colours through the photograph  (It's like I am talking to myself in the post.... bear with me please!)  :/  I hope she still likes it when I deliver it! Thank you Helen, can't wait till you see it!

Trabajé en este cuadro ayer y hoy lo terminé. A pesar de que quería seguir, no podía cambiar demasiadas cosas ya que este cuadro ya está vendido y necesito mantener mucho de lo que la clienta originalmente vio. Lo he llevado a un punto que es satisfactorio… Pero ahora que lo veo en la computadora… Creo que tengo que volver y agregar unos toques… Es muy difícil capturar los colores correctos en la foto. (Es como me estoy hablando a mi misma en el post, disculpas) :/  Espero que todavía le guste a mi clienta cuando lo entregue! Gracias Helen, estoy ansiosa por que lo veas!

Well that was FUN! Gosh, I love painting flowers and I have been dying to do it!  I have had these flower fields to finish for quite some time and I have been procrastinating to get to them..... I have gone back into them a couple of times but it wasn't happening so today I started with one and went back to jumping back and forth between paintings. I ended up  working on 3 at the same time; interestingly enough, one is oils and the other 2 are acrylics so it took some thinking as to how I was applying paint. I haven't painted in acrylics for a while and I was reminded of how nice it to work with them too. I have taken this painting today as far as I want to, I may go back tomorrow and change a couple of minor things but for now it needs to sit tight and rest.
The story behind this one is that I had help.... I started it as a demo at Sooke Fine Arts and this little girl came to my table, she was so excited with all the art and what she had created as it was kids' day at the show;  we chatted for a minute and then I asked if she wanted to paint with me and her face lit up! So I explained to her that we don't put the same colour all over, we talked about mixing greens and then she painted on my canvas. She was very pleased with herself and so was I. Thank you for helping me!

Cómo disfruté de pintar esto! Hace rato que tengo estos cuadros con campos de flores por terminar y he estado procrastinando para hacerlo… Traté de terminarlos varias veces y no pasó nada así que hoy decidí trabajar en uno y empecé a saltar de uno al otro; terminé trabajando en los tres cuadros al mismo tiempo, lo interesante es que uno es en óleo y los otros dos son acrílicos así que tuve que pensar bien como aplicaba la pintura. Hace mucho que no pinto en acrílicos y la verdad es que me sirvió para recordar cuánto me gustan también.
La historia de de este cuadro es que tuve ayuda… Lo comencé con una demostración en Muestra de Bellas Arte de Sooke en Julio.  Hubo una nenita que vino a mi mesa, ella estaba tan contenta con todo el arte y con lo que había ella creado (era el día para chicos en la muestra), charlamos un rato y le pregunté si ella quería pintar conmigo. Se le iluminó la carita y le expliqué que no ponemos el mismo color sobre todo el cuadro, hablamos de cómo mezclar verde y después ella empezó a pintar sobre mi lienzo. Estaba tan contenta! Y yo también :)
Hoy he llevado este cuadro hasta acá, tal vez vuelva mañana y cambie un par de cosas pero por ahora necesita descansar. Aprovecho esta oportunidad para mostrarles un par de fotos de ese día cuando empecé este cuadro. Pueden verme a mí y "El Jardín Secreto "en la muestra. As I mentioned yesterday, I spent the day the Art Gallery House Tour.and my home for the day was one of the house boats at Westbay Marina . I had a GREAT time, met soooo many people and this is what I painted. I cleaned it up a bit today and again, even though I know it can still have so many corrections, I want to leave it as a plein air study and maintain the original excitement and observations of the day. This was the view from the top deck on the 3rd floor from where we had well over 180 degrees views of the marina and Esquimalt-downtown waterfront all the way to the Cruise terminal. I just focused on a tiny little bit of the view.
Thank you so much to all the volunteers that made this day possible and for the invitation to participate in the event.Thank you so much to all that stopped by to chat and express how much they liked my work  and a very special thanks to Barbara and Dennis, the owners of the house for opening their home so we could all have a small taste of what life on the water may be and enjoy the fantastic views from every room of the house!!

Como les conté ayer, pasé el día en Tour de Casas y mi "hogar" por el día de ayer fue una de las casas flotantes en la Marina Westbay. La pasé muy muy bien, conocí muchísima gente y esto es lo que pinté. Hoy ya en el taller la he "limpiado" un poquito.... como también les dije antes, sé que le hacen falta muchas correcciones pero quiero dejarlo como un bosquejo al aire libre y mantener el entusiasmo y las observaciones del día sin completamente cambiar el cuadro. Esta era la vista desde  la terraza del 3er piso desde la que había mas de 180 grados de vista de la marina hasta el centro de Victoria. Yo simplemente enfoqué un pedacito chiquito de toda esa vista increíble.
Muchísimas gracias a todos los voluntarios que hicieron este día posible y por la invitación a participar en este evento. Muchísimas gracias también a todos los que pararon a conversar y expresaron cuanto disfrutaron de mi trabajo. Especialmente muchas gracias a Barbara y Dennis, los dueños de la casa por habernos abierto sus puertas para que nosotros pudiéramos tener un pantallazo de lo que es la vida en el agua y a la vez disfrutar de las fantásticas vistas desde cada habitación de la casa!!

 On Friday I went painting with the Alfrescoes after a long time of not being there, it was so nice to see many friendly faces :) We went to Westbay Marina in Esquimalt and the reflections early when we got there were just incredible! I took many photos for hopefully future paintings. The major challenge I had was the wind that picked up and got rid of the crystal clear reflections that attracted me to paint this scene in the first place. I am glad I had taken a photo at the beginning and was able to go back into it once back in the studio. It was for sure a matter of getting rid of the many marks I had added when it was windier.
The fact that we went to that marina on Friday was very timely because I have been invited to participate in this year's Art Gallery House Tour. Every year, a few special home in Victoria are picked and people can go and visit them.  There are artists in each of these homes. My "home" for today, Sunday Sep 11,   is a float home in this Marina actually. I'll be at #5 - 453 Head St in Esquimalt. Get a ticket, come down and visit this very special home. I was there on Friday and wow! They have the most amazing  views!

El viernes fui a pintar con los Alfrescoes después de no haber ido por bastante tiempo, fue tan bueno ver muchas caras sonrientes! Fuimos a la Marina Westbay en Esquimalt y los reflejos en el agua  temprano cuando llegamos eran increíbles! Tomé bastantes fotos para tal vez hacer cuadros en el futuro.  El mayor problema que tuve fue el viento que después de un rato se levantó y borró totalmente los reflejos perfectos que era lo que primero me había atraído de pintar esta escena. Me alegro de haber tomado una foto al comienzo y pude retocar este cuadro y corregirlo un poco una vez que volví a casa. Se trató principalmente de sacar muchas pinceladas que había agregado cuando se levantó el viento. El hecho de que fuimos a esa marina fue bastante oportuno porque me han invitado a participar en el Tour de Casas de este año organizado por la Galería de Arte de Victoria. Todos los años se eligen unos pocos hogares especiales en Victoria y la gente puede ir a visitarlos. Hay artistas en cada una de estas casas. Mi "casa" hoy, Domingo 11 de Septiembre, es una casa flotante en la marina. Voy a estar en  #5 - 453 Head St in Esquimalt. Vengan, compren una entrada y pasen a visitar esta casa muy especial. Estuve allí el viernes y wow!, tienen vistas increíbles por todos lados!

We are traveling a bit further North with today's painting onto Desolation Sound Marine Park. We have been to this park several times and this is the first time we stay in this cove, Prideaux Haven. It is absolutely spectacular and very peaceful even when it is busy with other boats as it is a very popular anchorage. This painting didn't have much to change but some details. One of the things about these series of paintings is that I need to remember they are plein-air sketches and when I bring them back to the studio I know I need to correct some things, add some highlights  or darken some darks but I have resist the urge to completely change the painting as then it looses the freshness of the plein air study. I need to start turning some of my favourites into more developed studio paintings..... This may be one of them :)  We were there for July 4, and the American boaters in the cove had their own Independence Day celebration! The kids on those dinghies were loving it, they had flags, balloons and music and they went all over the different coves sharing their excitement. My photos are very bad but they show a good memory!

Con este cuadro de hoy estamos viajando un poquito más al norte hacia la zona del  Parque Marino Desolation Sound. Hemos estado varias veces en este parque pero esta es la primera vez que paramos en esta bahía, Prideaux Haven. Es absolutamente espectacular y es muy tranquilo aún cuando normalmente hay muchas embarcaciones ya que es un anclaje bastante popular. Este cuadro no necesitaba muchos cambios, solamente algunos detalles. Una de las cosas que tengo que recordar con respecto a esta serie de cuadros es que son bosquejos al aire libre y cuando los traigo al taller sé que necesito corregir algunas cosas, agregar algunas luces o sombras pero tengo que resistir la tendencia a tratar de cambiar completamente el cuadro ya que de esa manera pierde la frescura  o la espontaneidad de un bosquejo al aire libre. Tengo que tratar de empezar a convertir estos estudios en cuadros mas grandes y desarrollados en el taller. Estuvimos en este lugar para el 4 de Julio, que es el día de la Independencia de Estados Unidos. Algunas personas de EEUU en la bahía organizaron su propia celebración para este día.  Los chicos a los chicos les encantaban, tenían banderas, globos y música y fueron por todas las distintas vayas compartiendo su alegría. Mis fotos son muy malas pero muestran buenas memorias! Los chicos en esas lanchas estaban tan contentos! tenían banderas, globos y música y dieron vueltas por todas las diferentes bahías compartiendo su alegría. Mis fotos no son muy buenas pero muestran el recuerdo de ese día  :)

We are going to Princess Louisa Inlet with today's painting. I started this one back at the end of June  but it still needed a few touches in the studio. Such a beautiful place..... The mountains are so high and the water so deep that we were anchored and "Stern Tied" (Tied the back of the boat to shore so we don't swing) and the back of the boat was 20 feet from shore with 40 feet of water still under us. That is one of the neat things up in that area. It takes a while to get all the way this Inlet but it is well worth it! The light was disappearing quickly, most of the bay was in shade because of the height of the mountains and the last rays of sun were just highlighting the tops of the ridges with a very bright green. The photo below is when I was already finished (because of not enough light!). You can see my improvised studio on the bow of the boat :) I'd go back there in a heartbeat!

Con el cuadro de hoy vamos a la Bahía de la Princess Louisa. Lo empecé  a fines de Junio pero todavía le faltaban algunos toques en el taller. Qué hermoso lugar… Las montañas son tan altas y el agua tan profunda que una vez anclados y la popa atada a la costa para no girar sobre el ancla, el velero estaba a 5 o 6 metros de tierra con 12 metros de agua todavía abajo del velero. Esta es una de las cosas lindas en esta zona, se puede llegar muy cerca de la costa con grandes profundidades. Se tarda bastante en llegar a esta hasta esta bahía pero realmente vale la pena. La luz estaba desapareciendo muy rápido, la mayor parte de la bahía estaba en la sombra debido a la altura de las montañas y los últimos rayos de sol hacían resaltar el verde en las montañas.  Pueden ver mi taller improvisado en la proa del velero. Me gustaría volver a visitar este lugar!!

We are going back to the Big Bar Lake area today.... It was painted from the same field as "Afternoon at the Lake". What was interesting (and challenging  with this painting was that the sun was coming in and out all the time and it was lighting up different areas of the lake at different times so the patterns on the water were changing ALL THE TIME and every five minutes so it seemed.... The colours were incredible in that lake, from very light turquoise to very dark greens. It was a fun day painting with some good friends! The bugs were interesting too! At one point I had one that, poor thing,  landed on the oil paint and made a big path on the panel trying to get out. :( There were quite a few others that ended up adding extra texture to the painting!

Hoy volvemos a la zona del Lago Big Bar … Este cuadro lo pinté desde el mismo campito que "Tarde en el Lago. Lo que fue interesante (y difícil) con este cuadro era que el sol estaba entrando y saliendo todo el tiempo e iluminaba distintas partes del lago en distintos momentos haciendo así que los diseños en el agua cambiaran todo el tiempo y cada cinco minutos. Los colores eran increíbles en ese lago,  desde un turquesa muy clarito a verdes muy oscuros.... Fue un día muy bueno compartido con buenos amigos! Los bichos también estaban interesantes! En un punto hubo uno que aterrizó en el óleo  y,  pobrecito,  tratando de salirse hizo todo un camino sobre el panel. :( Hubo otros cuantos que terminaron agregando mas textura al cuadro!

This is going back to May when I went with the Alfrescoes to Tower Point in Metchosin to paint on beautiful Friday morning. I had never actually paintied in that gorgeous park and found many different paintings to be done, I will for sure be back!
Even though Fall is here (amazing how the weather this first week of September!) I am still calling it Spring is in the Air" because that's definitely the way it felt when I painted it.....

Con este volvemos a Mayo cuando fui a pintar este hermoso Viernes a la mañana con los Alfrescoes  a Tower Point en Metchosin. Nunca había pintado en este parque  y me gustó tanto que seguro voy a volver ya que encontré muchos cuadros  para pintar en el futuro! A pesar de que ya estamos en el Otoño (increíble cómo cambio el tiempo esta primera semana de Septiembre!), le puse el nombre de "La Primavera se Siente en el Aire" porque así fue cómo se sentía ese día cuando lo pinté....

So what I have decided to do with the 30 in 30 this time around is to devote myself mostly to finishing paintings I have started and never got back to them. I have a GOOD pile of them, some will just be turfed but there are many others that with some tweaking have a good future..... I don't consider this cheating because the challenge is for each of us to do what we need to do with it afterall,we can make our our rules.  I am the boss of me anyway! So there! I said it!  :)
This one today is from my trip to Ashcroft and Big Bar Lake last May. After the Ashcroft paint-out was finished we were invited to visit Big Bar Lake just an hour and a bit north of Ashcroft. This one got painted on a gorgeous field by the lake before dinnertime. Thank you again Wayne & Janine Larsen for such hospitality,I so appreciate how opened your home to us.  There's more about that trip on this post. Interestingly enough, lots of the landscape in this part of BC is similar to the Lake Tahoe area..... maybe that is what has inspired me to go back and finish them!

Asi es que lo que he decidido hacer con el desafío de 30 cuadros en 30 días esta vez es dedicar mi tiempo principalmente a terminar cuadros que he comenzado y nunca terminado.  Tengo una en MUY BUENA pila de ellos, algunos van a ser tirados a la basura pero hay otros que con algunos pocos cambios pueden tener un buen futuro… No considero que esto sea trampa porque el desafío es para que cada uno de nosotros hagamos lo que necesitamos y podemos poner nuestras propias reglas, yo soy la jefa de todas maneras! Ahí esta! Lo dije! :)

Este cuadro de hoy es de mi viaje a Ashcroft y Big Bar Lake este Mayo pasado. Después de que la pintada de Ashcroft terminó nos invitaron a visitar el lago que queda a una hora y un poco más al norte. Lo pinté en un campo hermoso al frente del lago antes de la cena.... Gracias de nuevo Wayne y Janine Larsen por tanta hospitalidad, aprecio muchísimo cómo nos abrieron su hogar! Más acerca de este viaje acá. Es interesante que mucho del paisaje en esta parte de BC es similar a la zona del Lago Tahoe,  tal vez esto es lo que me ha inspirado a querer los cuadros de allá.

So this is the last painting I did while in Lake Tahoe area, I finished the previous, Alpine Meadow , with some time to spare before leaving so I tuned the easel in the other direction and did this quick colour study of the beautiful grasses in the meadow. It was fun to paint, pack up and leave in a rush to pack the suitcases and leave the hotel. Today, back in the studio, I have added some darks and more texture to the front.... It may still need some changes but for today I am calling it finished. It was very difficult to photograph this one as the paint is very wet, it was hard not to get the glare. Will have to rephotograph and repost.

Esta es la última pintura que hice en la zona del Lago Tahoe. Termine el cuadro anterior, Prado Alpino y como tenía tiempo de sobra  hice rápido este estudio de colores de los hermosos pastos que había en el prado. Disfruté pintar este cuadro, juntar todo e irme apurada para alrmar las valijas y dejar el hotel. . Hoy ya de vuelta en casa,  le he agregado algunos sombras y más textura a los pastos. Tal vez todavía le falten algunos cambios pero por hoy lo considero terminado. Fue bastante difícil fotografiar este cuadro porque la pintura está muy húmeda y el brillo se ve demasiado. Voy a tener que sacarla de nuevo y volver a subir la foto.

The last day I was in Lake Tahoe I only had the morning to paint before checking out of the hotel so I decided to stay close to the resort  (The Resort at Squaw Creek, great place!) I pulled over on the main road into Squaw Creek Village and just set up to paint, it was great to have the car right there, which is not usually the case :)  The mountains in the back are covered with chair lifts (43 of them) and tons of different runs for skiing in the winter and trails for hiking in the summer. See here for more info. The colours in the grasses were just beautiful and I specially enjoyed the patterns the runs made  on the mountain. This place must be quite magical in the winter with everything covered in snow!

El último día que estuve en la zona del Lago Tahoe solamente tenía la mañana para pintar antes de dejar el hotel y decidí quedarme cerca del complejo, (El Complejo en Squaw Creek, un hermoso hotel!) Estacioné sobre la ruta principal que entra a la Villa de Squaw Creek y preparé todo para pintar, fue muy bueno tener el auto ahí al lado ya que normalmente no lo tengo ta cerca. Las montañas que se ven a a distancia están totalmente cubiertas de tele-sillas y pistas para esquiar en el invierno y senderos para escalar en el verano. Mas informació sobre la zona acá. Los colores de los pastos eran muy hermosos y especialmente disfruté los distintos diseños que las pistas hacían en la montaña. Éste lugar debe ser un lugar muy mágico en el invierno con todo tapado de nieve!

When I knew I was coming to Tahoe and that I would have some time available for painting by myself I thought I would check online to see if there was a plein air group in the area similar to the Alfrescoes I paint with in Victoria. I was happy to find the Reno Tahoe Plein Air Painters. I contacted the blog administrator to see if they could tell me where they would be painting while I was in the area  in the off-chance it would work. And it kind of did!

I was thrilled when Carolyn Jean Thompson got back to me and arranged to meet me for painting together on Thursday. I was sorry I couldn't meet the rest of the group but it was absolutely wonderful to meet this talented artist, a real treat to paint with a local, exchange some stories and share lunch when we were done. Thank you Carolyn, it was so kind of you to come out! I enjoyed myself tremendoulsy.... You know you have a painting buddy for the next time you come to Vancouver Island!

Carolyn suggested we met at Sand Harbour State Park and what a good choice that was! The rocks, the colours and the whole scenery were just gorgeous. The painting above is the one I did that morning. I was starting to make mud which is a sure sign for me to stop. I'll correct some things and finish it once back in the studio.

Cuando supe que iba a ir a la zona de Tahoe y que iba tener tiempo para pintar se me ocurrió que tal vez podía ver si había un grupo de pintores en la zona parecido mi grupo de Victoria, los Al Frescos, con los que yo pinto a menudo. Me puse muy contenta cuando encontré los Pintores al Aire Libre de Reno y Tahoe. Contacté al administrador del blog para ver si me podían decir dónde iban a pintar mientras yo estuviera y si sería posible juntarme con ellos. Y funcionó!  Estuve muy contenta cuando Carolyn Jean Thompson me contestó y arreglamos para juntarnos para pintar el jueves. A pesar de poder conocer a mas gente en el grupo, fue absolutamente maravilloso conocer a esta artista tan talentosa, fue una oportunidad fantástica para pintar con alguien de la zona, intercambiar historias y compartir el almuerzo una vez que terminamos. Gracias Carolyn, fue tan amable de tu parte juntarte conmigo,  ya sabés que tenés una compañera de pintura si venís a la Isla de Vancouver!
Carolyn sugirió que fueramos al  Parque Estatal Sand Harbour y qué buena elección que fue! Las piedras, los colores y el paisaje en general eran hermosísimas. El cuadro de arriba es el que hice esa mañana. Estaba empezando a "hacer barro" y esa es una señal para que yo pare de pintar. Voy a corregir algunas cosas y terminarlo una vez que esté de nuevo en el taller.

While in Tahoe, we stayed in a place called Squaw Creek  in the Olympic Valley which is where the 1960 Winter Olympics were held. It has a very nice feeling with tons and tons of trails to explore in the summer. There's a gondola that goes up to the mountain top from where there are incredible vistas and  a  fair bit to do there.  There's a also a trail that takes you up which we wanted to hike but as it is quite difficult in some parts, we didn't have enough time to do this time.  This is called the Shirley Canyon Trail,  we did hike up to the waterfall where I found these rocks (and many other paintings!),  supposedly they are gorgeous covered in water but it is very dry and there was no water at all! Someone I talked to while painting said a month ago I would have been sprayed where I was standing and water almost to my feet. You could have not guessed it from what I saw. It never ceases to amaze me how these little trees grow literally in between the cracks, it always looks like they could never survive.....Again, this one needs a bit of TLC back in the studio but it is very close....

En mi estadía en Tahoe, paramos en un lugar que se llama el Squaw Creek en el Valle Olímpico que es donde se hicieron las Olimpíadas de Invierno de 1960. Es una villa muy hermosa con muchos senderos para explorar en el verano.  Hay una góndola que va hasta la punta de la montaña, y hay también un sendero que te lleva ahí, teníamos intenciones de escalarlo pero como es bastante lejos  no tuvimos tiempo esta vez. Este sendero se llama el Sendero del Cañón Shirley y si escalamos un un tramo donde encontré muchos cuadros distintos para pintar. Elegí estas rocas que supuestamente son una catarata pero como está todo tan seco no había nada de agua! Una persona que paró a  hablar conmigo mientras yo pintaba me dijo que hace un mes yo hubiera estado mojada dónde estába parada y con agua casi hasta mis pies. Uno nunca se podría creer eso con lo que yo ví!  Siempre me maravilla como estos pequeños árboles crecen literalmente entre las piedras, parece imposible que puedan sobrevivir… De nuevo, este necesita un poquito de trabajo en el taller pero le falta poco...

As I mentioned in my last post, I have been in Lake Tahoe for a few days now and I have used some of that time for painting outdoors,  have been exploring and I love the scenery!.... This painting was done en plein air by the Truckee River just a few minutes from where I am staying. I drove along this river several times and the banks with yellowy greeny grasses called me right away so that was my first choice for this trip. Got stung by a wasp half way and it is not fun at all.... but I guess it's one of the perils of plein air painting, that was  a first for me while painting. Apparently wasps are so bad this year in this area that some restaurants don't even serve food outdoors!
Still need to take it back to the studio and work on it a bit more, there are several unresolved areas, I ran out of time (or patience, or both) :)

Como les conté en mi último post, hace varios días que estoy en el Lago Tahoe y he aprovechado para pintar y explorar y la verdad es que me encanta este paisaje… Éste cuadro lo hice al aire libre en las orillas del Río Truckee que está a unos minutos de donde estoy parando. Pasé manejando al lado de este río varias veces y esas  orillas llenas de pastos verdes y amarillos me llamaron la atención en el acto así que esa fue mi primera elección para este viaje. Me picó una avispa a mitad del cuadro y no fue muy divertido....  Pero supongo que es uno de los peligros de la pintura al aire libre, esa fue la primera vez para mí mientras pinto. Parece que las avispas están tan malas este año en esta zona que algunos restaurantes ni siquiera sirven comida afuera. Éste cuando está sin terminar, todavía necesito llevarlo al taller y ponerle un poco más de tiempo, hay varias áreas que no están resueltas,  se me acabó el tiempo (o la paciencia o los dos) :)
