Well that was FUN! Gosh, I love painting flowers and I have been dying to do it!  I have had these flower fields to finish for quite some time and I have been procrastinating to get to them..... I have gone back into them a couple of times but it wasn't happening so today I started with one and went back to jumping back and forth between paintings. I ended up  working on 3 at the same time; interestingly enough, one is oils and the other 2 are acrylics so it took some thinking as to how I was applying paint. I haven't painted in acrylics for a while and I was reminded of how nice it to work with them too. I have taken this painting today as far as I want to, I may go back tomorrow and change a couple of minor things but for now it needs to sit tight and rest.
The story behind this one is that I had help.... I started it as a demo at Sooke Fine Arts and this little girl came to my table, she was so excited with all the art and what she had created as it was kids' day at the show;  we chatted for a minute and then I asked if she wanted to paint with me and her face lit up! So I explained to her that we don't put the same colour all over, we talked about mixing greens and then she painted on my canvas. She was very pleased with herself and so was I. Thank you for helping me!

Cómo disfruté de pintar esto! Hace rato que tengo estos cuadros con campos de flores por terminar y he estado procrastinando para hacerlo… Traté de terminarlos varias veces y no pasó nada así que hoy decidí trabajar en uno y empecé a saltar de uno al otro; terminé trabajando en los tres cuadros al mismo tiempo, lo interesante es que uno es en óleo y los otros dos son acrílicos así que tuve que pensar bien como aplicaba la pintura. Hace mucho que no pinto en acrílicos y la verdad es que me sirvió para recordar cuánto me gustan también.
La historia de de este cuadro es que tuve ayuda… Lo comencé con una demostración en Muestra de Bellas Arte de Sooke en Julio.  Hubo una nenita que vino a mi mesa, ella estaba tan contenta con todo el arte y con lo que había ella creado (era el día para chicos en la muestra), charlamos un rato y le pregunté si ella quería pintar conmigo. Se le iluminó la carita y le expliqué que no ponemos el mismo color sobre todo el cuadro, hablamos de cómo mezclar verde y después ella empezó a pintar sobre mi lienzo. Estaba tan contenta! Y yo también :)
Hoy he llevado este cuadro hasta acá, tal vez vuelva mañana y cambie un par de cosas pero por ahora necesita descansar. Aprovecho esta oportunidad para mostrarles un par de fotos de ese día cuando empecé este cuadro. Pueden verme a mí y "El Jardín Secreto "en la muestra. Ese cuadro ahora está disponible en Calla Design  en la Villa Estevan en Oak Bay. Estoy muy contenta de tener trabajo en este hermoso negocio. And speaking of Sooke in my last post, I am also thrilled to let you know that I have one piece accepted into the Sooke Fine Arts Show this year!!  Happy dance there for sure!! This is one of the largest and most competitive shows on the island. Around 375 works are accepted from  about 1200 to 1500 depending on the year which is why I am so glad my piece " The Secret Garden" got adjudicated in.  Show runs from July 22- August 1, open Daily 10 am. I will be doing a demo during the show, on Tuesday July 26 from 2 to 4 pm. Come and visit!!

Y ya que estamos hablando de Sooke en mi último post, también estoy muy contenta de contarles que tengo un cuadro aceptado la Muestra de Bellas Artes de Sooke este año!! Hago un bailecito de felicidad!! Esta es una de las exhibiciones más grandes y más competitivas en la isla. Alrededor de 375 trabajos se aceptan de aproximadamente 1200 a 1500 que se presentan por lo que estoy muy contenta de que mi pieza "El Jardín Secreto" haya sido seleccionada. La muestra corre desde el 22 de Julio al 1 de Agosto,  abren todos los días a las 10:00 de la mañana. Yo voy a dar una demostración  el Martes 26 de Julio de 2:00 a 4:00 de la tarde. Pasen y visiten y pueden!

La Muestra de Artes de Sooke eso es una oportunidad para que los mejores artistas de la isla de Vancouver y de las islas de alrededor exhiban y vendan sus trabajos. La muestra, que celebra el 30 aniversario en 2016, es la muestra de arte jurada  mas antigua y es el evento artístico principal del verano en la isla. La muestra que dura 11 días atrae a más de 8000 amantes del arte de Canadá, Estados Unidos y de otros lugares del mundo. I am very, very happy to announce that "the big monster" I have been working on got accepted into Sooke Fine Arts this year!! Yes!!! Big smile!! I am doing a happy dance!! Sooke Fine Arts is one the biggest juried shows on Vanvouver Island and it was one of my goals to submit to it this year. I only say "submit to" and not "get in" as a goal because you never know with juried art shows; I did my part, put the work in (and it took a few hours!) and I am very happy with the acceptance!

I had started this canvas a few years ago and due to lack of time had never finished it. It is the largest piece I have worked on (48x60) and I learnt a ton in the process. This canvas had a mind of its own from the get go, I wanted it to go in a certain direction and things wouldn't work, so after much frustration  several times  I said to myself: "Stop fighting it, this is the way this one will be".  It has a much more realistic look than I wanted it to have.

My new found love from this painting is Cadmium Orange. It gave me the "warm glow" I was after in some areas when mixed with Dioxazine Purples and different amounts of white and/or ultramarine blue.

The show runs July 25 to August 4 at Seaparc Leisure Centre in Sooke and unfortunately I won't be in town for it, (we are going to Italy!!!! Yes, I know, bummer eh?) Put it on your calendars and be sure to stop by if you can!

Estoy muy, muy contenta de poder anunciar que "el monstruo" en el que he estado trabajando duro ha sido aceptado en la muestra Sooke Fine Arts este año!! Si!!! Gran sonrisa acá!!  Bailecito de alegría!! Esta es una de las muestras juradas más grandes en la Isla de Vancouver y era una de mis metas presentar algo para ser considerado para la exhibición. Noten que sólo digo "presentar" y no "ser aceptada" como meta ya que uno nunca sabe con las muestras juradas; yo hice mi parte, trabajé mucho (y me llevó bastantes horas!) y estoy muy contenta con la aceptación!

Había comenzado este lienzo hace muchos años y por falta de tiempo nunca lo había terminado. Es la pieza más grande que he echo y aprendí muchísimo en el proceso. Este lienzo tomó sus propias decisiones desde el comienzo. Yo quería llevar las cosas en cierta dirección y no salían para nada así que después de mucha frustración algunos días me dije: "Dejá de luchar, este va a ser de este modo". Es mucho más realista de lo que yo quería. 

Un nuevo amor que encontré en este cuadro es el Naranja Cadmin. Me dió el "reflejo cálido" que buscaba cuando lo mezclaba con Morado Dioxazine y diferentes cantidades de blanco y/o Azul Ultramarino. 

La muestra es desde el 25 de julio hasta el 4 de agosto en el Centro de Recreation Seaparc en Sooke  y desafortunadamente no voy a estar en Victoria para esa fecha (Vamos a Italia!!! Si, ya sé, que lastima que vamos a Italia no? ) Marquen la fecha en sus calendarios y pasen a verla si pueden!
