We are going back to the Big Bar Lake area today.... It was painted from the same field as "Afternoon at the Lake". What was interesting (and challenging  with this painting was that the sun was coming in and out all the time and it was lighting up different areas of the lake at different times so the patterns on the water were changing ALL THE TIME and every five minutes so it seemed.... The colours were incredible in that lake, from very light turquoise to very dark greens. It was a fun day painting with some good friends! The bugs were interesting too! At one point I had one that, poor thing,  landed on the oil paint and made a big path on the panel trying to get out. :( There were quite a few others that ended up adding extra texture to the painting!

Hoy volvemos a la zona del Lago Big Bar … Este cuadro lo pinté desde el mismo campito que "Tarde en el Lago. Lo que fue interesante (y difícil) con este cuadro era que el sol estaba entrando y saliendo todo el tiempo e iluminaba distintas partes del lago en distintos momentos haciendo así que los diseños en el agua cambiaran todo el tiempo y cada cinco minutos. Los colores eran increíbles en ese lago,  desde un turquesa muy clarito a verdes muy oscuros.... Fue un día muy bueno compartido con buenos amigos! Los bichos también estaban interesantes! En un punto hubo uno que aterrizó en el óleo  y,  pobrecito,  tratando de salirse hizo todo un camino sobre el panel. :( Hubo otros cuantos que terminaron agregando mas textura al cuadro!

This is going back to May when I went with the Alfrescoes to Tower Point in Metchosin to paint on beautiful Friday morning. I had never actually paintied in that gorgeous park and found many different paintings to be done, I will for sure be back!
Even though Fall is here (amazing how the weather this first week of September!) I am still calling it Spring is in the Air" because that's definitely the way it felt when I painted it.....

Con este volvemos a Mayo cuando fui a pintar este hermoso Viernes a la mañana con los Alfrescoes  a Tower Point en Metchosin. Nunca había pintado en este parque  y me gustó tanto que seguro voy a volver ya que encontré muchos cuadros  para pintar en el futuro! A pesar de que ya estamos en el Otoño (increíble cómo cambio el tiempo esta primera semana de Septiembre!), le puse el nombre de "La Primavera se Siente en el Aire" porque así fue cómo se sentía ese día cuando lo pinté....

So what I have decided to do with the 30 in 30 this time around is to devote myself mostly to finishing paintings I have started and never got back to them. I have a GOOD pile of them, some will just be turfed but there are many others that with some tweaking have a good future..... I don't consider this cheating because the challenge is for each of us to do what we need to do with it afterall,we can make our our rules.  I am the boss of me anyway! So there! I said it!  :)
This one today is from my trip to Ashcroft and Big Bar Lake last May. After the Ashcroft paint-out was finished we were invited to visit Big Bar Lake just an hour and a bit north of Ashcroft. This one got painted on a gorgeous field by the lake before dinnertime. Thank you again Wayne & Janine Larsen for such hospitality,I so appreciate how opened your home to us.  There's more about that trip on this post. Interestingly enough, lots of the landscape in this part of BC is similar to the Lake Tahoe area..... maybe that is what has inspired me to go back and finish them!

Asi es que lo que he decidido hacer con el desafío de 30 cuadros en 30 días esta vez es dedicar mi tiempo principalmente a terminar cuadros que he comenzado y nunca terminado.  Tengo una en MUY BUENA pila de ellos, algunos van a ser tirados a la basura pero hay otros que con algunos pocos cambios pueden tener un buen futuro… No considero que esto sea trampa porque el desafío es para que cada uno de nosotros hagamos lo que necesitamos y podemos poner nuestras propias reglas, yo soy la jefa de todas maneras! Ahí esta! Lo dije! :)

Este cuadro de hoy es de mi viaje a Ashcroft y Big Bar Lake este Mayo pasado. Después de que la pintada de Ashcroft terminó nos invitaron a visitar el lago que queda a una hora y un poco más al norte. Lo pinté en un campo hermoso al frente del lago antes de la cena.... Gracias de nuevo Wayne y Janine Larsen por tanta hospitalidad, aprecio muchísimo cómo nos abrieron su hogar! Más acerca de este viaje acá. Es interesante que mucho del paisaje en esta parte de BC es similar a la zona del Lago Tahoe,  tal vez esto es lo que me ha inspirado a querer los cuadros de allá.

So this is the last painting I did while in Lake Tahoe area, I finished the previous, Alpine Meadow , with some time to spare before leaving so I tuned the easel in the other direction and did this quick colour study of the beautiful grasses in the meadow. It was fun to paint, pack up and leave in a rush to pack the suitcases and leave the hotel. Today, back in the studio, I have added some darks and more texture to the front.... It may still need some changes but for today I am calling it finished. It was very difficult to photograph this one as the paint is very wet, it was hard not to get the glare. Will have to rephotograph and repost.

Esta es la última pintura que hice en la zona del Lago Tahoe. Termine el cuadro anterior, Prado Alpino y como tenía tiempo de sobra  hice rápido este estudio de colores de los hermosos pastos que había en el prado. Disfruté pintar este cuadro, juntar todo e irme apurada para alrmar las valijas y dejar el hotel. . Hoy ya de vuelta en casa,  le he agregado algunos sombras y más textura a los pastos. Tal vez todavía le falten algunos cambios pero por hoy lo considero terminado. Fue bastante difícil fotografiar este cuadro porque la pintura está muy húmeda y el brillo se ve demasiado. Voy a tener que sacarla de nuevo y volver a subir la foto.

The last day I was in Lake Tahoe I only had the morning to paint before checking out of the hotel so I decided to stay close to the resort  (The Resort at Squaw Creek, great place!) I pulled over on the main road into Squaw Creek Village and just set up to paint, it was great to have the car right there, which is not usually the case :)  The mountains in the back are covered with chair lifts (43 of them) and tons of different runs for skiing in the winter and trails for hiking in the summer. See here for more info. The colours in the grasses were just beautiful and I specially enjoyed the patterns the runs made  on the mountain. This place must be quite magical in the winter with everything covered in snow!

El último día que estuve en la zona del Lago Tahoe solamente tenía la mañana para pintar antes de dejar el hotel y decidí quedarme cerca del complejo, (El Complejo en Squaw Creek, un hermoso hotel!) Estacioné sobre la ruta principal que entra a la Villa de Squaw Creek y preparé todo para pintar, fue muy bueno tener el auto ahí al lado ya que normalmente no lo tengo ta cerca. Las montañas que se ven a a distancia están totalmente cubiertas de tele-sillas y pistas para esquiar en el invierno y senderos para escalar en el verano. Mas informació sobre la zona acá. Los colores de los pastos eran muy hermosos y especialmente disfruté los distintos diseños que las pistas hacían en la montaña. Éste lugar debe ser un lugar muy mágico en el invierno con todo tapado de nieve!

When I knew I was coming to Tahoe and that I would have some time available for painting by myself I thought I would check online to see if there was a plein air group in the area similar to the Alfrescoes I paint with in Victoria. I was happy to find the Reno Tahoe Plein Air Painters. I contacted the blog administrator to see if they could tell me where they would be painting while I was in the area  in the off-chance it would work. And it kind of did!

I was thrilled when Carolyn Jean Thompson got back to me and arranged to meet me for painting together on Thursday. I was sorry I couldn't meet the rest of the group but it was absolutely wonderful to meet this talented artist, a real treat to paint with a local, exchange some stories and share lunch when we were done. Thank you Carolyn, it was so kind of you to come out! I enjoyed myself tremendoulsy.... You know you have a painting buddy for the next time you come to Vancouver Island!

Carolyn suggested we met at Sand Harbour State Park and what a good choice that was! The rocks, the colours and the whole scenery were just gorgeous. The painting above is the one I did that morning. I was starting to make mud which is a sure sign for me to stop. I'll correct some things and finish it once back in the studio.

Cuando supe que iba a ir a la zona de Tahoe y que iba tener tiempo para pintar se me ocurrió que tal vez podía ver si había un grupo de pintores en la zona parecido mi grupo de Victoria, los Al Frescos, con los que yo pinto a menudo. Me puse muy contenta cuando encontré los Pintores al Aire Libre de Reno y Tahoe. Contacté al administrador del blog para ver si me podían decir dónde iban a pintar mientras yo estuviera y si sería posible juntarme con ellos. Y funcionó!  Estuve muy contenta cuando Carolyn Jean Thompson me contestó y arreglamos para juntarnos para pintar el jueves. A pesar de poder conocer a mas gente en el grupo, fue absolutamente maravilloso conocer a esta artista tan talentosa, fue una oportunidad fantástica para pintar con alguien de la zona, intercambiar historias y compartir el almuerzo una vez que terminamos. Gracias Carolyn, fue tan amable de tu parte juntarte conmigo,  ya sabés que tenés una compañera de pintura si venís a la Isla de Vancouver!
Carolyn sugirió que fueramos al  Parque Estatal Sand Harbour y qué buena elección que fue! Las piedras, los colores y el paisaje en general eran hermosísimas. El cuadro de arriba es el que hice esa mañana. Estaba empezando a "hacer barro" y esa es una señal para que yo pare de pintar. Voy a corregir algunas cosas y terminarlo una vez que esté de nuevo en el taller.

#2 of 30: Despite All Odds

While in Tahoe, we stayed in a place called Squaw Creek  in the Olympic Valley which is where the 1960 Winter Olympics were held. It has a very nice feeling with tons and tons of trails to explore in the summer. There's a gondola that goes up to the mountain top from where there are incredible vistas and  a  fair bit to do there.  There's a also a trail that takes you up which we wanted to hike but as it is quite difficult in some parts, we didn't have enough time to do this time.  This is called the Shirley Canyon Trail,  we did hike up to the waterfall where I found these rocks (and many other paintings!),  supposedly they are gorgeous covered in water but it is very dry and there was no water at all! Someone I talked to while painting said a month ago I would have been sprayed where I was standing and water almost to my feet. You could have not guessed it from what I saw. It never ceases to amaze me how these little trees grow literally in between the cracks, it always looks like they could never survive.....Again, this one needs a bit of TLC back in the studio but it is very close....

En mi estadía en Tahoe, paramos en un lugar que se llama el Squaw Creek en el Valle Olímpico que es donde se hicieron las Olimpíadas de Invierno de 1960. Es una villa muy hermosa con muchos senderos para explorar en el verano.  Hay una góndola que va hasta la punta de la montaña, y hay también un sendero que te lleva ahí, teníamos intenciones de escalarlo pero como es bastante lejos  no tuvimos tiempo esta vez. Este sendero se llama el Sendero del Cañón Shirley y si escalamos un un tramo donde encontré muchos cuadros distintos para pintar. Elegí estas rocas que supuestamente son una catarata pero como está todo tan seco no había nada de agua! Una persona que paró a  hablar conmigo mientras yo pintaba me dijo que hace un mes yo hubiera estado mojada dónde estába parada y con agua casi hasta mis pies. Uno nunca se podría creer eso con lo que yo ví!  Siempre me maravilla como estos pequeños árboles crecen literalmente entre las piedras, parece imposible que puedan sobrevivir… De nuevo, este necesita un poquito de trabajo en el taller pero le falta poco...

As I mentioned in my last post, I have been in Lake Tahoe for a few days now and I have used some of that time for painting outdoors,  have been exploring and I love the scenery!.... This painting was done en plein air by the Truckee River just a few minutes from where I am staying. I drove along this river several times and the banks with yellowy greeny grasses called me right away so that was my first choice for this trip. Got stung by a wasp half way and it is not fun at all.... but I guess it's one of the perils of plein air painting, that was  a first for me while painting. Apparently wasps are so bad this year in this area that some restaurants don't even serve food outdoors!
Still need to take it back to the studio and work on it a bit more, there are several unresolved areas, I ran out of time (or patience, or both) :)

Como les conté en mi último post, hace varios días que estoy en el Lago Tahoe y he aprovechado para pintar y explorar y la verdad es que me encanta este paisaje… Éste cuadro lo hice al aire libre en las orillas del Río Truckee que está a unos minutos de donde estoy parando. Pasé manejando al lado de este río varias veces y esas  orillas llenas de pastos verdes y amarillos me llamaron la atención en el acto así que esa fue mi primera elección para este viaje. Me picó una avispa a mitad del cuadro y no fue muy divertido....  Pero supongo que es uno de los peligros de la pintura al aire libre, esa fue la primera vez para mí mientras pinto. Parece que las avispas están tan malas este año en esta zona que algunos restaurantes ni siquiera sirven comida afuera. Éste cuando está sin terminar, todavía necesito llevarlo al taller y ponerle un poco más de tiempo, hay varias áreas que no están resueltas,  se me acabó el tiempo (o la paciencia o los dos) :)

Wow! Time flies when you are having fun! I have been meaning to write on the blog and finally post some of the paintings I have done this summer but time has gone by and here we are..... Sep. 1.... But I did warn you in the ast one that I was on holiday mode kind of thing for the blog.

I have been busy with many things: spending time with my daughter before she went back to Vancouver for her second year of Interior Design,  we have gone out ont he boat, we have finaled designs for renovating some parts of our house (kitchen, bathroom.....), I have been painting, shipping paintings and travelling a bit. Today I am writing this from Lake Tahoe.... Yes!!! What an amazing place this is! My good friend Tara, invited me to come with her as she has a conference to attend here so while she is busy in her meetings I have been painting. There are so many paintings here! 

I am not going to make this post super long but mainly I want to let you know that I am planning to participate again in the "30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge" put on by Leslie Saeta that starts tomorrow.... I have done it several times and love it.  I am inviting you to either paint along (yes, there's still time for you to sign up) or follow me along through this blog, my Facebook or Instagram..... So, here we go....!

Wow!! Cómo pasa el tiempo cuando uno se está divirtiendo!! Hace bastante tiempo que quiero escribir en el blog y finalmente publicar algunos de los cuadros que hecho este verano pero el tiempo ha pasado demasiado rápido y acá estamos… El 1 de septiembre ya… He estado ocupada con muchas cosas: disfrutando con mi hija antes de que se fuera a Vancouver para empezar el segundo año de diseño de interiores, salidas en el velero, finalizando diseños para renovar algunas partes de nuestra casa como en la cocina baño, he  estado pintando, despachando pinturas y viajando un poco: hoy les escribo esto desde Lake Tahoe! Si!! Qué hermoso lugar!!!Mi buena amiga Tara me invitó a venir con ella ya que ella tiene una conferencia así que mientras ella está en sus reuniones  yo he salido a pintar....  hay tantos cuadros acá!

No voy a hacer este post demasiado largo pero principalmente les quiero contar que estoy planeando participar en el Desafío de 30 Cuadros en 30 Días organizado por Leslie Saeta… Lo he hecho varias veces y me encanta. Los invito a participar ya sea pintando conmigo (Si, todavía tienen tiempo de anotarse) o siguiéndome por medio de este blog, my Facebook o Instagram… Acá vamos!

Art, Music and Gardens

I am getting ready for the last summer event I am a part of and that is Art & Music in the Gardens at the Horticultural Centre of the Pacific..... I mean, what else do we need?? Art, music, gardens and flowers.... food, we need food.... there will be some available of course! I will be painting of course, don' know yet if it will be from photo reference or from I have in front of me, it depends nt he view that day, there's so much  inspiration all around! Come and visit! Me estoy preparando para el último evento que tengo este verano:  Arte y Música en los Jardines en el Centro de Horticultura del Pacífico…  qué más hace falta? Arte, música, jardines y flores... comida, nos hace falta comida… y por supuesto que va a ver puestos de comida disponible. Voy a pintar por supuesto, no se todavía si va a ser de fotos o de lo que tengo adelante, veremos qué vistas tengo,  hay mucha inspiración por todos lados! I am sorry it took me so long to post this but to be honest, I ended up the day so so tired that it took me a few days to recover  and only today I am finding time to get this post done but Wow! What a great day Moss Street Paint In was! It was wonderful to see old friends, meet new ones and share my art with people. The weather cooperated this year, not too hot, not too cold, not too breezy, just perfect!

Les pido disculpas por cuánto tiempo me ha llevado escribir este post pero para ser honesta, terminé el día tan tan cansada que me llevó un par de días recuperarme y solamente hoy he tenido tiempo para escribirlo pero Wow! Que gran día en la pintada de Moss St! Fue bárbaro ver a viejos amigos, conocer nuevos, y compartir mi arte con la gente. El tiempo cooperó, estuvo muy bueno este año: no mucho calor, no mucho frío, no mucho viento, perfecto!

My lovely daughter Camila helped me set up in the morning and I had help and support from dear hubby and son later on.  It's just amazing how in just a short time the space is totally transformed. 

Mi hermosa hija Camila me ayudó a armar todo esa mañana y tuve la ayuda y apoyo de mi esposo y de mi hijo más tarde. Es simplemente increíble como en tan poco tiempo se transforma totalmente el lugar.

When we get there in the morning, it is complete chaos but I am so happy that again this year I  did a dry-run at home a couple of days before the event. (Idea taken form Crystal Moody's blog a couple of years ago). I had taken pictures  of the set up  so on the morning of the event we knew exactly where everything was going to go. There isn't usually a ton of time to set up (I personally didn't want to go at 6 am to figure out were each painting looked best) so I loved  having that blueprint ahead of time.

Cuando llegamos ahí a la mañana, era caos total pero estoy muy contenta de que este año nuevamente hice una prueba en mi casa un par de día antes del evento. (Esta idea fue tomada de el blog de Crystal Moody hace años hace un par de años). Yo había sacado fotos de dónde iba cada cosa así que esa mañana sabíamos exactamente donde iba cada cuadro. Normalmente no hay mucho tiempo para armar todo (Personalmente no quería ir ahí a las 6:00 de la mañana para tratar de diseñar donde colgar pintura para que queden bien) así que me encantó tener el plan por adelantado.

Thank you so much to all the people that purchased paintings, cards and prints! And thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone that stopped by and expressed how much they loved my art, whether they took one home or not,  it just warms my heart to see first hand people's reaction to my art.

Thank you also to the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria for organizing this wonderful event and the hundreds of volunteers that make the day possible. More than 30,000 people showed up to soak up the art all around.

Oh and Thank you Opus Art Supplies as well for the goodie bag they dropped off!! Loved it!!

Muchas gracias a toda la gente que compró cuadros y  tarjetas. Y también gracias del fondo de mi corazón a toda la gente que pasó, paró y expresó cuánto le gustaban mis cuadros, ya sea si llevaron uno o no, simplemente me reconforta mucho ver la reacción positiva de la gente.

Gracias también a la galería de arte de Victoria por organizar este evento maravilloso y a los cientos de voluntarios que hacen que este día sea posible. Más de 30.000 personas vinieron a devorar el arte que había por todos lados.

Ah y también gracias a Opus por la bolsita con regalos que me dejaron! Me encantó!!

Well.... the time has come! The 2016 Moss Street Paint In is here and this post is mainly to invite you and remind you about it: When? This Saturday, July 16, 11 to 4 pm. Come out and visit, I will have  some of the paintings done in my last couple of plein air trips as well as work produced this year and brand new cards.... I know some of you collect them ;)


I just got back, as some of you know, from a couple of weeks of sailing, I will be sharing some paintings I did during that trip AFTER this event is done!! (We had a great time!!) I had left pretty much everything ready for Saturday before leaving  but I am so glad I have a couple of extra days to make sure it is all really ready. See you Saturday!!

Y bien… Ha llegado el momento! La Pintada de la Calle Moss del 2016 ha llegado y este post es principalmente para invitarlos y recordarles de este evento. Cuando? Este sábado 16 de julio de 11:00 a 4:00. Donde? A lo largo de la Calle Moss, van a encontrar arte para todos gustos! Uno de los mejores lugares? El #124 en la Calle Moss al 305 entre Franklin y Vimy Pl..… Ahí es donde me van a encontrar a mi!!  Vengan a visitarme, voy a tener algunos de los cuadros que hecho en los últimos viajes,  trabajo producido este año y también voy a tener tarjetas nuevas… Yo sé que algunos de ustedes las coleccionan. ;)

Acabo de llegar, como saben algunos de ustedes, de un par de semanas de navegación. Voy a estar compartiendo con ustedes nuestras aventuras y los cuadros que hice en ese viaje después de este sábado que viene.  (La pasamos muy bien!!) Había dejado todo casi listo para este sábado antes de salir pero estoy muy contenta de tener un par de días extra para asegurarme de que todo esté REALMENTE listo. Nos vemos el sábado!!

This is the second painting I did from that same lookout. I actually finished the previous one, turned the easel the other way and did this one, not even 2 steps from the previous one. :)  I am still looking and practising the colours and lines created by different lighting conditions. Loved this palette.....

Este es el segundo cuadro desde el mismo lugar que el anterior. En realidad, cuando terminé el anterior, simplemente di vuelta el atril para el otro lado, ni siquiera a dos pasos de donde estaba antes :) Como pueden ver, sigo practicando los colores y las línea creadas por las distintas condiciones de luz. Me encataron estos colores....

I'll be showing you some of the paintings I did in the last plein air trip. This one was painted on Saturday afternoon very close to downtown Ashcroft. We went on a  gravel road that ended up in some kind of service station for the railway way past what they call the Ashcroft Slough. We decided to stop at one of the viewpoints where we had several different choices to paint. As a matter of fact, I did three sketches that afternoon from that spot, 2 that I am happy with. This is one of them, next one coming up next. I am still studying and loving the colours and rhythms in the landscape.

Les voy a empezar a mostrar algunos de los cuadros que hice el ultimo viaje. Éste fue pintado el sábado a la tarde muy muy cerca del centro de Ashcroft. Fuimos por esta calle de tierra que terminaba en una especie de estación de servicio para el ferrocarril después de pasar lo que llaman la laguna de Ashcroft. Decidimos parar en un lugar con buena vista desde donde teníamos varias opciones para pintar. En realidad terminé haciendo tres cuadros esa tarde, 2 que me gustan, este es uno de ellos, el otro es el próximo que les muestro. Todavía sigo estudiando y disfrutado de los colores y los ritmos de este paisaje hermoso.

And speaking of Sooke in my last post, I am also thrilled to let you know that I have one piece accepted into the Sooke Fine Arts Show this year!!  Happy dance there for sure!! This is one of the largest and most competitive shows on the island. Around 375 works are accepted from  about 1200 to 1500 depending on the year which is why I am so glad my piece " The Secret Garden" got adjudicated in.  Show runs from July 22- August 1, open Daily 10 am. I will be doing a demo during the show, on Tuesday July 26 from 2 to 4 pm. Come and visit!!

Y ya que estamos hablando de Sooke en mi último post, también estoy muy contenta de contarles que tengo un cuadro aceptado la Muestra de Bellas Artes de Sooke este año!! Hago un bailecito de felicidad!! Esta es una de las exhibiciones más grandes y más competitivas en la isla. Alrededor de 375 trabajos se aceptan de aproximadamente 1200 a 1500 que se presentan por lo que estoy muy contenta de que mi pieza "El Jardín Secreto" haya sido seleccionada. La muestra corre desde el 22 de Julio al 1 de Agosto,  abren todos los días a las 10:00 de la mañana. Yo voy a dar una demostración  el Martes 26 de Julio de 2:00 a 4:00 de la tarde. Pasen y visiten y pueden!

La Muestra de Artes de Sooke eso es una oportunidad para que los mejores artistas de la isla de Vancouver y de las islas de alrededor exhiban y vendan sus trabajos. Estoy muy contenta de anunciarles que ahora tengo cuadros en la Galería South Shore donde pueden encontrar no solamente mi trabajo!! :) si no también una gran colección de arte original de artistas de British Columbia. La Galería South Shore se encuentra en el hermoso Sooke, en la parte sur de la isla de Vancouver, aproximadamente a unos 45 minutos del centro de Victoria.  Jessie Taylor Dodd, una artista ella misma, a hecho un gran trabajo con esta galería que compró hace varios años. YAY!! I got 2 in!!

YAY!!!  I got 2 in!! I am glad to say I got 2 paintings accepted into the Federation of Canadian Artists - Victoria Chapter - 75Th Anniversary Show! (wow, that's a mouthful!)  I submitted "The Rose Garden" and "Look Up, Look Up!" and the jurors adjudicated them in (Thank you Jurors!) I am very pleased.
The show runs June 23 to July 6 at the Cedar Hill Arts Centre. (Cedar Hill Recreation Centre
3220 Cedar Hill Road, 250-475-7121). We are having an opening with lots of the artists in attendance this coming up Saturday June 25, 2 to 4 pm.  I'll be there, stop by and visit if you can!

SIII! Me aceptaron dos! Estoy muy contenta de contarles que tengo dos pinturas aceptadas en la Exhibición del 75 Aniversario de la Federación de Artistas Canadienses- Victoria!! Wow! Eso es un montón de palabras!
Presenté "El Rosedal" y "Mirá para Arriba, Mirá para Arriba!"  y los jueces me las aceptaron. Estoy muy muy contenta. La muestra corre desde el 23 de Junio al 6 de Julio en el Centro de Artes de Cedar Hill. (Cedar Hill Recreation Centre - 3220 Cedar Hill Road - 250-475-7121) Tenemos una recepción de apertura con muchos de los artistas presentes este sábado que viene 25 de Junio de 2 a 4 de la tarde. Voy a estar ahí, pasen a visitar si pueden!

This was the first little study I did once we got to Ashcroft on our plein air trip a few weeks ago. There were so many incredible vistas from so many places. In one particular spot you could just sit all day and do so many paintings,  not only because of the views themselves but because the light changing so often would completely change EVERYTHING...... challenging at times but fun... :) This first one was for me a way of getting acquainted with the different shapes and colours of the landscape in this area. The colours were so gorgeous once you start really looking...  Have a great start of the week!

Este fue el primer estudio que  hice una vez que llegamos a Ashcroft en nuestro viaje hace unas semanas.  Hay tantas vistas increíbles desde tantos lugares. En un lugar en particular uno puede sentarse todo el día y hacer muchos cuadros distintos, no sólo por las distintas vistas que hay sino porque la luz cambia tanto y cambia TODO..... difícil a veces pero de eso se trata.... :) Este primer cuadro fue mas que nada para familiarizarme con las formas y los colores de este paisaje tan hermoso. Los colores eran bellísimos una vez que uno empieza a realmente mirarlos.... Que empiecen bien la semana!

This is something I painted back in December but never posted. The image came from our trip to Newport Beach back in November 2014. Along the ocean there was a gorgeous walkway in a park Iin either Corona del Mar or Laguna Beach with tons of flowers beds with Birds of paradise and rose bushes among many other beautiful plants.  I am deep into some exciting commission work that needs to be done in the next couple of week, I'll show you once I am done!

In the meantime these roses are a  reminder to choose to see the good, positive and beautiful in the world everyday, they are my my offering to all the victims of gun violence in the world, so much unnecesary pain..... Let's do a random act of kindness today....

Esto es algo que pinté en Diciembre  pero nunca les mostré. La imagen vino de nuestro viaje a Newport Beach en Noviembre de 2014. Había un parque hermoso a lo large de la costa  en Laguna Beach o Corona del Mar, no recuerdo,  en el que había muchísimos canteros con rosales y aves del paraíso entre otras plantas. Estoy muy ocupada pintando un par de pedidos que tengo que tener terminado  dentro de las próximas semanas. Les muestro cuando lo tengo terminado.

Mientras tanto estas rosas son un recordatorio para siempre elegir ver lo bueno, hermoso y positivo en el mundo todos los días, son mi ofrecimiento para honrar a  todas las víctimas de la violencia con armas de fuego en el mundo, tanto dolor sin sentido.....   Hagamos un acto de amabilidad al azar hoy....

Wonderful Last Few Weeks: Ashcroft

Just finishing getting sorted out and tidied up after the last trip I went on, the 2016 Ashcroft Paint Out organized by the Winding Rivers Arts & Performance Society . 55 artists from different places around the province came out to Ashcroft to paint the town and the landscape. Victoria was very well represented with 15 of us from the Alfrescoes group. I went on this trip with my two good friends Deborah Czernecky and Sharlene Stushnov-Lee, we laughed so hard all the time our stomachs hurt, we had a wonderful time, created many memories but we also worked hard.

Recién ahora estoy terminando de acomodar y ordenar después de mi último viaje, la Pintada de Ashcroft de 2016 organizada por la Sociedad de Arte y Teatro de los Rios . 55 artistas de distintos lugares de la provincia fueron a Ashcroft  para pintar el pueblo y el paisaje vecino.  Victoria estuvo estuvo muy bien representada con 15 artistas, todos del grupo de los Alfrescoes. Fui en este viaje con mis dos buenas amigas Deborah Czernecky y Sharlene Stushnov-Lee, nos reímos tanto todo el tiempo que nos dolía la panza, la pasamos muy bien, hicimos muchas memorias pero también trabajamos duro.

We left a day before the event started and we painted on the way. We stopped for the night in Lytton, a small town on the #1 highway, painted at a nearby campsite by some wonderfully whitish rock mountains. The resort is called Kumsheen , check it out, you can sleep in tepees there and all, very nice spot!

Salimos un par de días antes del comienzo del evento y pintamos en el camino. Pasamos la noche en un pequeño pueblo llamado Lytton que está sobre la autopista número uno, pintamos en un campamento muy cerca con unas montaña de piedra blanca muy hermosas. Este campamento se llama Kumsheen , si pueden ir vayan, se puede dormir en carpas. 

Ashcroft is a small picturesque town with a historic downtown core where we painted on Saturday morning as  the kick off for the event. We were then let lose to paint the landscape anywhere we wanted. I fell in love with the different tones of sage, light blues and greens that I could see in the mountains and vegetation. Very very very different from the colours we have here on the island. They served us a wonderful turkey dinner on Saturday night and on Sunday evening we had a small show of all the work produced during the weekend. Thank you so much Winding Rivers Society for all the food, dinners, muffins, cookies, coffee, etc that you supplied for us! It was a wonderful experience!

 Ashcroft es un pueblo pequeño muy pintoresco con un centro histórico muy lindo en el pintamos el sábado a la mañana para comenzar el evento. Después nos dejaron libres para pintar el paisaje donde quisiéramos. Me enamoré de los distintos tonos de verde, celeste , ocres que se ven las montañas y la vegetación. Muy muy muy diferente de los colores que tenemos acá en la isla. No sirvieron una cena de pavo muy buena el sábado a la noche y el domingo a la noche tuvimos una pequeña muestra de todo el trabajo producido durante el fin de semana.  Fue hermoso ver la variedad  y los distintos puntos de vista de cada artista. Muchas gracias a La Sociedad de los Ríos por toda la comida, cenas, muffins,  galletitas, café,  etc. que ustedes nos dieron! Fue una experiencia hermosa!

As we had a couple of extra days to paint, we were invited to go up to a place called Big Bar Lake, an hour and a bit north of Ashcroft. The landscape there was again different from Ashcroft, more green. We stayed at our hosts Wayne and Jeanine Larsen's lakefront beautiful home and again we painted our lives away.  Thank you so much Wayne and Jeanine for being so generous with us, yes, we are coming back next year!!  I produced a total of 12 paintings, some of them need some tweaking, a few need to be tossed and another bunch are keepers just as they are, plein air sketches which can give me information for future studio paintings and serve as a wonderful memory of my experiences in the desert.

Como teníamos un par de días extra para pintar nos invitaron a ir a un lugar llamado en lago gran bar, una hora y pico al norte de Asprov. El paisaje acá era diferente del de Asprov, con mucho más verde. Pasamos la noche en la casa de Wayne, una casa frente al lago muy hermosa y de nuevo pintamos todo el tiempo. Muchísimas gracias Wayne ya ni importa ser tan generoso con nosotros, sí que volvemos el año que viene! Producción total de 12 cuadros, algunos les hacen falta algunos cambios, algunos necesitan ser descartados, y otros cuantos están bien así nomás como están, son bosquejos al aire libre que me pueden dar información para cuadros en el futuro y a su vez me sirven de unos recuerdos hermosos de mis experiencias en el desierto.

I would love to go back next year!
