30 Painting in 30 days - Feb 2018: DONE!!

Wow! Like I said yesterday,  this month flew by!!!! I am very happy it's over and I'm very pleased with what I accomplished. I explored a few different bodies of work that I am for sure going to continue  working with. In fact, I am already working with the small works that I considered were successful and making them bigger.  These past 30 days also gave me more confidence to tackle larger canvas. I put into practice something I have been wanting to do for a long time which was to start using thicker paint. I am so glad I did it even when some days I didn't really feel like it!
Again, thank you so much for following along, for encouraging  and supporting me, there's a few paintings that already went on to other homes!! Wow! Como dije ayer, este mes ha volado!!!! Estoy contenta de que  el desfio haya terminado y estoy muy satisfecha con lo que he logrado. he explorado varias series con las que voy a seguir, en realidad ya he empezado a agrandar los que considero salieron bien. Este último mes también me dio mas confianza para atacar lienzos de mayor tamano  y empecé a por en práctica algo que hace mucho quiero hacer, usar mas pintura para lograr as texturas. Estoy muy contenta de haber echo el desafío aún cuando muchos días no tenía ganas!
Nuevamente, les agardezco por haberme seguido, alentado y apoyado, hay akgunos cuadros que ya han encontrado hogares nuevos!! Felicitaciones a todos los artistas que participaron en el dfío, pueden ir a el Blog de Leslie Saeta para ver muchas de las creaciones. Voy a seguir escribiendo de forma regular pero no todos los días! Hasta Pronto!!

I had done this as a plein air study many many years ago; it sold but the image always stayed with me, so I dug up a photo of the sketch  and did it again in juicy oils this time. This spot is a very protected cove in the Sechelt Peninsula where we once or twice we have spent the night on our way up to Desolation Sound. History says that possibly the cove got that name when more than a hundred years ago it was used by a man who used to smuggle Chinese people into the United States for a fee of 100 dollars, that must have been a lot of money back then!

Había pintado este cuadro desde el velero hace muchos muchos años que por suerte se había vendido pero siempre recuerdo esta imagen.  Por eso decidí buscar una foto de ese antiguo bosquejo y decidí pintarlo en óleos esta vez. Este lugar en una ensenada muy protegida en la Peninsula de Sechelt donde una o dos veces hemos pasado la noche camino a Desolation Sound. La historia dice que posiblemente la ensenada recibió este nombre después de ser usada por un señor que se dedicaba a entrar a EEUU gente de China de contrabando  por la suma de 100 dólares, eso debe haber sido mucha plata en a quel entonces!

One more point inspired by  the last day of our vacation on the boat last year. We were coming back from Desolation Sound and after crossing the strait of Georgia, spent the night tucked in behind  a very long point that almost disappeared when tide was high.  The coast is littered with Arbutus that have tons of twists and gorgeous colours.

Otro punto inspirado por nuestro último día de vacaciones en el velero el año pasado. Estabamos volviendo de Desolation Sound y después de cruzar el Estrecho de Georgia, decidimos pasar la noche destras de este punto que casi desaparecía con la marea alta. La costa está llena de estos árboles llamados Madronas que tienen colores hermosísimos y ramas muy retorcidas.

And now for something completely different yet still familiar...... I'll be playing with a whole bunch of BC Landscapes trying different approaches from what I've been doing..... just playing in  a different sandbox  and I'm loving it!

Y ahora vamos con algo totalmente diferte pero familiar al mismo tiempo.... Voy a  jugar con paisajes de Bristish Coloumbia probando tecnicas distintas a las qe he estado usando.....  es como jugar en un arenero distitno y me encanta!!

Ready, Set, Go!!!

Once again I am joining hundreds of artists all over the wold to do the 30 Paintings in 30 days Challenge hosted by Leslie Saeta. At the same time, our local art supply store is hosting the Opus Daily Practice challenge so I qualify for both! :)
I'll be painting in oils on birch panels or cradled panels, I'm trying them without gesso, just with GAC 100 so I leave the wood grain showing, just experimenting on different surfaces. This time, I'll follow a couple of themes: simple still lifes in the studio to practice my observation skills and  the other one is doing small studies of BC landscapes I want to paint larger. So many times we think a certain image will make a good painting only to discover half way through it that indeed it was NOT that interesting after all, specially when blown up big. So, it seems to be a good time to do that as I am working on a body of work that shows how I see this beautiful landscape I am surrounded by.

Maybe you feel inspired to do it yourself?? Doesn't have to be a prefect painting, it could be a drawing, a sketch or a collection of bad paintings that may help make you better painter!! The pont is to develop the habit of  going into the studio every single day, practice makes perfect, or practice makes better for sure! so what do you say.... are you in??? Nuevamente me uno a cientos de artistas de todo el mundo para hacer el Desafío de 30 cuadros en en 30 días organizado por Leslie Saeta. Al mismo tiempo nuestro negocio de arte local está organizando otro desafio similar: Práctica Diaria de Opus,  así que estoy contenta de calificar para los dos.

Voy a pintar con oleos sobre paneles de madera. Estoy probando algo nuevo, pintar sin la base de gesso sino sólo con un par de capas de GAC 100 para que se vea la madera. Esta vez voy a seguir un par de temas distintos: naturalezas muertas simples en el taller para practicar mi habilidad de observación y el otro es hacer pequeños estudios de paisajes de British Columbia que quiero pintar más grandes. Tantas veces pensamos que una cierta imagen va a ser un buen cuadro solo para darnos cuenta a medio camino que lo que creíamos iba ser algo interesante, no lo es, especialmente cuando lo pintamos más grande. Así que me parece una buena idea hacer estos estudios ya que quiero hacer una serie que muestra como yo veo este paisaje tan hermoso de que estoy rodeada. Voy a poner mis trabajos aquí en este blog a diario como así también en mi página de Facebook y de Instagram, Pueden seguir mi proceso y compartir!

Si sos artista, tal vez te sientas inspirado para hacerlo tú mismo? No tiene que ser un cuadro perfecto puede ser un dibujo, un bosquejo o una colección de unos cuantos cuadros  malos que te van ayudar a ser un pintor mejor. La meta es desarrollar el hábito de ir al estudio todos los días, la práctica ayuda a la perfección o mejor dicho la práctica hace que uno mejore seguro! Así que....  qué dicen… Lo hacen? Sigan los links que puse arriba para encontrar más información o para anotarse en los distintos desafíos.
