The Path is a painting I started a couple of years ago and it looked completely different  when I first started. Unfortunately I didn't have the time (or sense of direction I guess) to finish it right then and there and it stayed in the studio turned against the wall for a long time. Then I decided to get it done and the path became so overgrown I could no longer see it. I loved working with colour in this painting! It was very hard at first to let go of parts that I was enjoying in the previous incarnation but I got brave and allowed to painting to take its own course! Below you can see the start of it, it went through many lives and makeovers  before getting to the finished piece you see above. Thank you Janice at Calla Design for finding a home for this painting :)

"El Sendero" es un cuadro que empecé hace un par de años y al comienzo era completamente diferente. Desafortunadamente no tuve tiempo o tal vez no sabía muy bien en qué dirección ir para terminarlo en su momento por lo que permaneció en el taller contra la pared durante mucho tiempo. Cuando finalmente decidí terminarlo, las plantas comenzaron a crecer tanto que taparon el sendero inicial! 🙂  Me encantó trabajar con color en este cuadro! Fue difícil al comienzo abandonar y cubrir partes que me estaban gustando en la primera versión pero junté coraje y dejé que el cuadro siguiera su propio camino! En la segunda imagen, pueden ver el comienzo, pasó por muchas vidas antes de llegar a la pieza terminada que ven arriba. Gracias Janice de Calla Design por haber encontrado un hogar para este cuadro.

Now back to our regular programming! The 30 Day Challenge is over and life is VERY busy in the studio.... I am getting  ready to be the Artist in Residency at the Coast Hotel in Downtown Victoria for the whole month of April. As such I'll be painting at the hotel several times a week and I can display my work in the hotel lobby and at the Blue Crab Restaurant. Both are large and will take a lot of pieces so I am busy as a bee  creating new ones and selecting the ones that will be part of the exhibition. There is so much more than than just painting to showing and selling your work....   but I will get into that in other posts. For now, I am showing you the first painting I did this 2018. I had decided to do a whole bunch of still-lifes, some of  which I haven't posted yet but I am happy to say have already sold. Thank you Calla Design  for selling this one!

Ahora volvemos a la programación  regular! El Desafíio de 30 Días ha terminado y sigue habiendo en el taller un remolino de actividad.... Me estoy preparando para ser la Artista Residente en el Hotel Coast en el centro de Victoria durante todo el mes de Abril. Voy a pintar en el hotel varios días a la semana y voy a poder mostrar mi arte en el lobby del hotel y en el Restaurat Blue Crab,  hacen falta bastantes cuadros para llenar los dos lugares ya que son muy grandes por lo que estoy creando nuevos cuadros y seleccionando los que voy a incluir en esa muestra. Hay tanto mas que hacer que pintar  cuado uno exhibe y vende.... pero les cuento eso de a poco en otros posts. Por ahora, les muestro el primer cuadro que hice este 2018. Había decidido hacer  una serie de naturalezas muertas muy simples  que no les he mostrado todavía pero que por suerte ya se han vendido. Gracias Calla Design  por haber vendido esta!

You may remember January Morning from the Challenge. It was a plein air painting I did at Elk Lake last Jan, on a cold winter morning.... yep, the one when my fingers and toes were frozen for a good while afterwards. See older post here. I am happy to report  it is Sold and on its way to very nice people from Toronto, ON.
I don't usually post when paintings sell, but I may just start doing that a bit more, sharing the successes as well as the tribulations of painting  :)

We had a great opening for Red at Coast Collective on Friday night and for Burning Desire on Saturday. Thank you to all the people that travelled from Victoria and other parts of the island to come see us. We got excellent reviews of the show. :)

I also delivered my painting "Witness" to the Federation Gallery in Vancouver last Sunday and snuck in a visit to my daughter ...  if you are close to Granville Island  anytime between Feb 16 and 28, do stop by and see the Landscape show. Should be a good one too!

I have spent the last few days just recovering from the cold bug I got last week and putting some kind of order back in the studio.  Enjoy your day!

Tal vez recuerden"Mañana de Enero" que pinté al aire libre  para el desafío, es del Lago Elk, esa mañana de mucho frío.... si, cuando se  me congelaron los dedos de las manos y de los pies, esa misma, pueden ver el post anterior aquí. Bueno, estoy contenta de contarles que se ha vendido y está rumbo a gente muy linda en Toronto, Ontario. No suelo publicar mucho las ventas, pero al vez empiece a contarles  mas a menudo sobre esas pequenas (o grandes) victorias y no sólo las tribulaciones de mi pintura. :)

Tuvimos una recepción muy buena para "Rojo" en Coast Collective el Viernes a la noche y otra muy buena también para "Deseo Ardiente" el sábado. Muchisimas gracias a todos los que viajaron de Victoria y de otras partes de la isla para ir a ver la muesrtra. Tuvimos comentarios excelentes! :)

También llevé mi cuadro "Testigo" a la Galería de la Federación el domingo (Y aproveché para visitar a mi hija)... si estan cerca de Granville Island entre el 16  y el 28 de Febrero, pasen a ver la muestra "Paisajes", va a estar buena!

Me he pasado el último par de días recuperándome de la gripe de la semana pasada, tratando de poner un poco de orden en el taller. Que disfruten del día!
