Wow! It feels like life has picked up pace yet again and I haven't been able to write too much lately! Can't believe it's been a month since my last post... so many things have happened I don't know where to start!
I think I will start with what is happening right now and cover the last month in my next post..... I was invited to participate in a show called "In Conversation - Poets Speak, Artists Respond". A poem was assigned to different visual artists to be interpreted in any
way. I had fun with it. I may still add some more imagery to my piece but I am not sure.
Below is the poem that inspired the painting, it was written by a local artist called Gail Kernius. It touched a special cord in me because of some of the events in my life this past year (I wondered if they hand-picked that poem for me!) As a mom, I have always wondered about what kind of lives my kids will live, whether they will have simple lives full of joy and love or more complicated ones with challenges and bends in the road. Unfortunately, as you may know and remember, my son did have a huge mountain to climb this past year (see here) but he made it, he has recovered incredibly well from what could have been very tragic and we are eternally thankful for that. As a matter of fact, he started Grade 11 this week with his peers (which was a goal of his from the beginning) and I am so very proud of how far he has come! My hope is that he conquers many more mountains and that he knows he is loved, no matter what kind of life he chooses to live. Love you Mateo!
I will be at the Opening today Saturday Sep 12, from 2 to 4pm. Come and enjoy over 20 creative pairings of poetry and visual artistry. Each poem has a unique sense of energy and emotion, and each artist's interpretation is just as wonderfully diverse. Visitors can get in on the "call and response" nature of this exhibit by creating their own works with the art supplies provided - or bring your own! Sounds like fun!

orbiting around you?
a simple life is never simple
you must learn to love the rose
without being pierced by thorns,
find the mountain tops
without losing yourself
in hidden valleys
turn yourself forward,
having seen the ebbing
when times are troubled
finding humour in a nutshell
and laugh by Spanish Banks
but most of all
be one with mind and heart
once joined
a compass
to steer your life
Be bold and brave,
the new world is upon
you
like the bird in first flight
out of the cage or out of the nest
know you are loved
and if you

Wow! Parece que la vida se ha acelerado de nuevo y no he podido escribir
mucho últimamente! No puedo creer que hace ya un mes que no escribo en
el blog.... han pasado tantas cosas que no sé por dónde empezar!
Creo que voy a empezar por lo que está pasando en este momento y
contarles lo del mes pasado en el próximo post. Hace un par de meses me
invitaron a participar en una muestra llamada "Conversando: Poetas Hablan y Artistas Responden. Diferentes poemas fueron asignados a artistas visuales
para ser interpretados de cualquier forma deseada. Disfruté mucho de este proyecto, tal vez le agregue mas imágenes pero no no estoy segura.
Debajo está el poema que inspiró mi pintura, fue creado por una poeta
local llamda Gail Kernius. Tocó una parte especial en mí debido a
algunos acontecimientos de este último año (Me pregunto si me lo dieron a
propósito). Como madre muchas veces me he preguntado qué tipo de vidas
van a tener mis hijos, si van a tener vidas simples llenas de alegría y
amor o si van a tener vidas mas complicadas con curvas en el camino.
Desafortunadamente este año pasado mi hijo tuvo que escalar una montaña
enorme
(ver acá)
pero gracias a Dios salió adelante, se ha recuperado increíblemente bien de lo que
podría haber sido una gran tragedia y por ello estamos eternamente
agradecidos. Acaba de comenzar el Grado 11 con sus compañeros (lo que
fue una de sus metas desde el comienzo de todo esto) y estoy tan
orgullosa del empeño que ha puesto y cómo ha salido adelante! Mi esperanza es que siga trepando
montañas y que sepa que es amado sin importar el tipo de vida que
elija. Te quiero mucho Mateo!
Hoy sábado 12 de Septiembre, de 2 a 4 pm voy a estar en la recepción
de artistas. Vengan y disfruten de la combinacion de
mas de 20 poemas y cuadros. Cada poema tiene su propia energía y emoción
y son todas interpretaciones completamente diferentes. Los invitados
pueden también participar creando sus propias respuestas a los poemas
con materiales que va a haber a disposición. Va a ser interesante!

En esos ojos, marrones y profundos,
miro crecer al niño.
Habrá mundos que conquistar
o un simple mundo orbitando alrededor tuyo?
una simple vida no es siempre simple
debes aprender a amar la rosa
sin lastimarte con sus espinas
ncontrar las cimas de las montañas
sin perderte en los valles
darte vuelta hacia adelante
cuando veas el bajón
de los tiempos con problemas
encontrar humor en una cáscara de nuez
y reirte en los Spanish Banks
pero mas que nada
debes ser uno en mente y corazón
que una vez unidos son a una brújula >
para que darte dirección.
Se atrevido y valiente,
el nuevo mundo está contigo
como el ave en su primer vuelo
fuera de la jaula o del nido
debes saber que eres amado y si te caes,
nos uniremos a ti y te levantaremos.
