Still Speaking Spanish (and trying to Understand Catalán!)

Picking up where I left off.... from Argentina I went straight to Barcelona with my 19-year-old daughter. She is doing a semester of her university studies there and I went to help her get settled. I had envisioned a couple of weeks of helping  her with anything she needed, sitting at cafes sketching and visiting the city but I ended up not doing much of that! Finding accommodation proved to be a bit of a challenge, I spent most of my days there arranging for appointments to see apartments, searching and not finding much. Finally, after actually changing my flight to stay a bit longer, we found a great place for her, she walks to school and has everything very close. What an amazing experience for her! I miss her but that's life I guess.Our kids grow and we have to let them fly.

 Sigo aquí donde había dejado… Desde Argentina fui directo a Barcelona con mi hija de 19 años, ella está haciendo un semestre de sus estudios universitarios en esa ciudad y fui para ayudarla a asentarse. Tenía la idea de estar un par de semanas ayudandola con lo que le hiciera falta y pasar el resto del  tiempo en cafés  dibujando y visitando la ciudad pero terminé haciendo muy poco de esas cosas! Encontrar departamento fue bastante difícil, me pasé la mayor parte de mis días arreglando citas con agentes inmobiliarios para ver apartamentos, buscando y no encontrando mucho. Finalmente después de haber cambiado mi  vuelo para quedarme más tiempo,  encontramos un muy buen lugar, ella puede ir caminando a la universidad y tiene todo muy muy cerca. Que experiencia maravillosa para ella! La extraño mucho pero así es como es la vida no? Nuestros hijos crecen y los tenemos que dejar volar.




In the end, I did have a couple of days to myself and one of my first choices was to visit the Picasso Museum. I had been there a few years before but wanted to go back on my own. I fell in love again with his early work, his portraits and drawings, his simple landscapes. He was a very talented man and you could certainly tell he had indeed had a lot of training (his father was an art teacher). A couple of photos of and from the courtyard  in the Picasso Museum.

Al final  si tuve un par de días para hacer turismo y una de las primeras cosas que hice fue visitar el Museo de Picasso. Había estado ahí hace varios años pero esta vez quise ir sola. Me enamoré nuevamente de todos sus primeros trabajos, sus retratos y dibujos, sus paisajes tan simples. Muy realista  y muy hermosos. Era un hombre de mucho talento  y se puede ver que había tenido mucho entrenamiento ya que su padre era profesor de arte. Acá les muestro un par de fotos de y desde el patio del Museo de Picasso.

My other favourite place this trip was Casa Batllo, one of the many buildings designed by Antoni Gaudí. I hadn't visited it the previous trip and it was so worth it!! Gorgeous organic lines, nothing left to chance. Every single piece and detail had a purpose and been thought out carefully. Fell in love again with all his mosaic work, a feats of colours for sure.

Otro de mis lugares favoritos este viaje fue la Casa Batllo, uno de los muchos edificios diseñados por Antoni Gaudí. No había ido a este lugar el viaje anterior y valió la pena! Líneas orgánicas hermosísimas, nada dejado al azar. Cada elemento y cada detalle tenía una función y había sido cuidadosamente diseñado. Me enamoré también de nuevo de todo su trabajo de mosaico, una fiesta de colores por supuesto.

The glass in the rail  of the stairs has a texture so when you see through it further gives you the illusion of water

Another highlight was the flamenco dancing. We went to one Palau one evening and absolutely loved it. The rhythm and passion are unbelievable. So happy we did it.

Otra de las cosas que hicimos fue ir a ver flamenco. Fuimos a un palacio una noche y nos encanto, el ritmo y la pasión eran increíbles, estoy muy contenta de que hicimos eso.
